I eat chocolate every night, it’s all I’ve ever known

ive had chocolate every night after dinner since I can remember, my parents always gave me a choc bar each night. I still do this now in my 30s and can’t have an evening without. Anyone else do this in their household?

Haha I do this. Although these days I mostly have ice cream (with chocolate in it) but it is pretty much without fail every night. I think my mum used to do something similar, and we always had a snack or a treat ("supper") after dinner/before bed when we were kids.

Never did me any harm. I'm healthy, active and slim and I don't even have any cavities in my teeth. 😁

Chickenwing2 · 15/06/2023 07:34

Yes my family have a chocolate bar (or something sweet like ice cream) after dinner every night Grin

To the poster who said they didn’t like vegan chocolate have you tried Rhythm 108? It’s extremely moreish and melts in your mouth. Swiss vegan chocolate . You can buy this in Sainsbury’s not cheap though !

Oooh yes this one is really good too. Also this buttermilk brand (bizarrely it is vegan despite the name).

I eat a family sized / share bar of either Galaxy caramel or Milkybar every single day (not all in one go, I’ll have a few squares every time
I have a tea really) and have done for at least the last 25 years 🙈 it’s an awful habit and I could do with losing some weight but I just really love chocolate. To be fair it’s my only vice, I don’t drink / smoke / do drugs and I eat very healthily otherwise. I just love it.

😳

Why ginger?

It's just the name of a type of pot, I don't know if they were used for ginger in the past, I got mine from Next sale for about £15 so it's not antique or anything, a large pottery vase type pot with a lid, it's about 40cm tall

potniatheron · 15/06/2023 09:33

Yeah I eat chocolate every night, it's my treat :-)

BMI of 21 and I run 3 - 7k every morning. All that to say chocolate gets a bad rep in terms of weight. Calories in calories out it's that simple.

Some of the most overweight people I know are on so-called low carb diets or go on and on about sugar being the devil. We need carbs in our diets, and sugar. They're body and brain fuel :-)

muddlingthrou · 15/06/2023 09:53

Can someone please tell me the secret to just eating 'a few' chocolate buttons, and leaving the rest in the pack? I have zero willpower 🙊

I would if vegan chocolate weren't crap. I think I've only had one chocolate bar this year! Oreos on the other hand I can virtually inhale.

What brands have you tried? Some is really horrible vegetable oil tasting stuff but some is lovely and creamy.

Sartre · 15/06/2023 09:55

Not always chocolate but definitely something sweet. Normal weight and super fit, I work out a lot so I think I deserve a sweet treat!

DataColour · 15/06/2023 10:00

I only have a craving for chocolate specifically just before my period. But I do eat something sweet everyday after dinner, a biscuit, bit of cake, ice-cream, and sometimes a couple of squares of chocolate. I'm more of a savoury person though with snacks.

I do this. Was never allowed chocolate or sweets as a child. My mum used to secretly eat chocolate in the evening and now I do the same.

My mother used to stuff a bar of Dairy Milk down the side of her armchair, break off squares and slide them very slowly up her side, turning her head a fraction at the last second to pop them in her mouth.

All to avoid sharing it with my father.

I do routinely have something with my afternoon cup of tea - a Tunnocks’s wafer or a snack size chunky kitkat. I really shouldn’t.

Ooooh, Tunnocks! The tea cakes are the bomb

Lemieux3 · 15/06/2023 10:08

Treats are important. What's wrong with having a chocolate bar as pudding?

But this triggered a memory. I had an ex boyfriend who had a habit (from his parents) of eating a bowl of cereal in the morning and then immediately eating nearly a whole packet of custard creams 😂 every single day. It was so strange to me.

Yes they are!

3plusonekids · 15/06/2023 17:49

I hear ya! I’m on a resistance training programme but STILL eat chocolate every night, it’s fine and it keeps me balanced 😅

Psiaspops · 15/06/2023 18:02

Yep chocolate for me every day after my evening meal
Used to worry about the weight side of things, but I'm terminally ill, so gonna enough the chocolate when I can

Luhou · 15/06/2023 18:20

Habitual in our house too. Not always a chocolate bar, sometimes a pudding or a sweet treat. Even when I've dieted and lost weight in the past, it's remained for me. I'd just eat well all day and then would have like a fun size chocolate bar supposed to a full sized one.

Do you think it's an issue?

restingbitchface30 · 15/06/2023 18:21

I have a bar of choc every night too. And crisps, sweets, nuts, tbh I inhale whatever I can! I barely eat all day so at night time I’m like a rabid dog

BridgetRandomfuck · 15/06/2023 18:27

I never knew this was a thing! I feel left out. I don’t have chocolate very often - I like it if someone gives me a box for a present or something, but it’s not something I buy myself. My vice is Haribo though - once the bag is open I pretty much demolish it. That’s why I only buy it as a rare treat.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/06/2023 18:30

Not every night here (for no other reason than I run out). But we often have a ‘tasty bite’ (my Mum called them this) with our evening cuppa about 7.30pm.
I’m talking a mini roll or a couple of jaffa cakes or wee bar of chocolate. We do tend to go for mini choc ices in the summer though. It’s one of lifes little pleasures.

YDBear · 15/06/2023 18:52

Two custard creams before bedtime for me. Since I was about three, so for 60 years.

Season0fTheWitch · 15/06/2023 19:12

Dh and I both do, we like the M&S buckets of brownies/rockie road etc and usually share one in the evening. We're both in the gym as often as possible so we don't worry about it! Life's too short to not.

avocadotofu · 15/06/2023 19:13

My family was very different, we rarely had sweet treats.

TooJoy · 15/06/2023 19:39

I don’t but I am trying to.

My upbringing was very restrictive with food and it feels wrong eating treats every day but it’s a really unhealthy way to be and it’s then hard to not binge when I do have treats.

My goal is to have a pudding after tea every day but I’ve not managed it yet.
