To ask how much your owe on your mortgage and your age?

Recently remortgaged and the massive rate rise got us thinking. Made me wonder - what is the average people owe? Yes it depends on area/value/when bought etc. But to make it simple I'd be interested in
A) how much owed
B) your age

I'll go first! We owe £115k and I'm 31.

£398,000 (about 30% loan to value)
£295,000 (about 60% loan to value)

On a 5-year trajectory to pay off- what fun
Remortgaged in early 2023 on the advice of the bank at 1.75%

Nope. Absolutely no way in early 2023 you got that deal.

We are still in our starter home so expecting to take on a bigger mortgage in the next few years!

Missingmyusername · 13/06/2023 22:42

Finished paying, 45.

BrassTrim · 13/06/2023 22:44

43, £1.2m, LTV about 50/50.

I was wrong it was Feb 2023
The bank (NatWest ) contacted us in late October 2021 and advised us to pay an early redemption and remortgage (was due to end Summer 2022).

This thread is not representative of my friends at all. None of them about 35 houses (aged 61 to 37) are mortgage free!

Pussywilloww · 13/06/2023 22:45

No re income/LTV, we have enough threads on MN about this.

DixonD · 13/06/2023 22:46

I don’t actually know! I think it’s about £270k but it’s a bit unusual as we we borrowed a few times to buy other land. So actual mortgage for the purchase of the house probably has about £135k left. Valued at about £500k.

I’m 40.

Bluebells1970 · 13/06/2023 22:47

Mortgage = zero

Age = 52

Newmumatlast · 13/06/2023 22:47

Tbh the amount you took out and any equity to really contextualises this. We could've been mortgage free in late 30s/early 40s but bought bigger so our mortgage owed figure in isolation could sound like we owe a large percentage of the house value but it doesn't. We could sell and get good chunk due to equity.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 13/06/2023 22:48

@Lapland123 possibly not! I am 250k ish and am 50 in July. Single income for 14 years and also had to do interest only for about 6 years. There's a lot of equity in the house but I have no desire to move!

Willyoujustbequiet · 13/06/2023 22:48

hattyhathat · 13/06/2023 22:33

Do you not need LTV for this to be useful?

This.

All a bit pointless otherwise. Being mortgage free at a younger age is not that difficult in a cheap property so it's comparing apples and oranges.
