To ask how much your owe on your mortgage and your age?

Recently remortgaged and the massive rate rise got us thinking. Made me wonder - what is the average people owe? Yes it depends on area/value/when bought etc. But to make it simple I'd be interested in
A) how much owed
B) your age

I'll go first! We owe £115k and I'm 31.

Zero.
Our last two houses were bought outright.
I'm 48.

ContinuousProcrastination · 13/06/2023 23:02

I don't think the pound value is especially meaningful as affordability is more relevant.

We owe about 1.5 x joint income, not including bonuses.

However we've also got some other assets set aside to reduce the balance when our fix ends in 2025, which will leave us with a bit over 1x the lower salary. The assets are growing faster than the interest rate on the mortgage so we may actually be clear by the time we get there.

We are 37.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/06/2023 23:02

34.

Paid it off earlier this year.

Tanfastic · 13/06/2023 23:02

Hardly any savings though!

Watchinghurling · 13/06/2023 23:03

grosslyunfair · 13/06/2023 23:03

Zero. 48

ZforZebra · 13/06/2023 23:03

Zero.
Paid off at 36 (39 now).

Haleso · 13/06/2023 23:04

145k age 44

Overpaying and hoping to get rid of it by 55!

It would be much more interesting to provide LTV rate and which region you're in too.

Age 46. No contribution from parents or anyone else other than my own income savings to fund properties.

Property 1.
£20k mortgage. LTV 8%.

Property 2
£100k mortgage. LTV 20%

Property 3
£480k mortgage. LTV 75%

Property 1 and 2 will be paid off in 10 years. At which time I may use the letting income from these properties to pay off Property 3.

I appreciate I am massively privileged.

youdialwetile · 13/06/2023 23:05

Equivalent to 60,000 GBP. We are 48 and 59. Plan is to pay it off on my 50th birthday.

Blindedbythelighters · 13/06/2023 23:06

How are people paying off mortgages in their 30’s.

felt exciting to finally have saved enough for a deposit , then to see the repayments at 95% ltv is heartbreaking. It will be 35% of net pay on the best fixed rate for 5 years. Not sure if we should back out of the sale for something cheaper or suck it up and hope property prices go up.

I own two four bedroom houses outright and don't have a mortgage.

How did you do it? Did you inherit anything?

Swifey40 · 13/06/2023 23:12

£490,000

Both 45 years old but house worth £1.2m
29 years left but will pay it down within 15 years

Byeckythump · 13/06/2023 23:13

435k, 41/42.

Circe7 · 13/06/2023 23:13

£350k at 35 and on my own.

But I don’t see it as a forever home. It’s a nice and quite big house and I could buy somewhere £300k cheaper if I really wanted a tiny mortgage. I’ll probably move somewhere cheaper when kids leave home.

coffeelateperson · 13/06/2023 23:14

£120k 2 properties.
51 and 57

shelbabab · 13/06/2023 23:15

Paid off recently due to inheritance, age 37. Pretty sad as my dh has no living parents now.

It had about £90k left on it and house is worth about £260k.

gogohmm · 13/06/2023 23:15

Zero 50

Greycheck · 13/06/2023 23:15

40k ish and I'm 39.

6 years and 9 months to go on the mortgage.

caringcarer · 13/06/2023 23:15

£0 and 61. Incidentally I've paid off two mortgages. 1 with exh and one with DH2.
