To not paint my toenails for my friends wedding tomorrow

First world problem I know! I have painted my fingernails a lovely red but I have lost my toe separators and find painting my toes boring, plus I have a 10 month old baby who makes every task 10x more difficult to complete! My toes will be on show as I have sandals to wear with my dress tomorrow.

UABU- paint your toenails to match your fingernails
UANBU- nude toenails are fine

I don't paint my toe nails, and I'm really glad this part of female social conditioning has missed me. I'd say to women who would not wear sandals without their nails painted to examine that feeling a bit. Do you think men feel the same? Would you judge them the same? I doubt your desire to paint your nails has come from yourself, but society's desire for women to be pretty and shiny.

I don't care if men feel the same. I am not a man. My husband does not like make-up or nail polish. I do.

I also don't want to see men's toes at a wedding, or their hairy armpits😂, while a pretty woman in a strappy dress looks fine to me.

I tell you something, we can be pretty and shiny and clever and successful at the same time!

deathbyhayfever · 09/06/2023 14:22

OP, during the time it took for these 200 replies to be posted, have you finished painting your toes yet? 😂

SquirrelSoShiny · 09/06/2023 14:23

Beautician uses a rolled up tissue for each foot. Use that!

ABugWife · 09/06/2023 14:23

A few people have mentioned men's toe nails, I have never seen a man in an open toed shoe at a wedding. I haven't been to all that many weddings to be fair but I am fairly sure it's not standard.

Nah. Nonsense. I rarely paint my nails, on either end, I can't be fucked, and I look perfectly nice without. I feel no pressure to do so of any kind, there is nothing wrong with me not doing so. On the odd time I do, it is because I like the way it looks shiny and pretty, to me. The men in my life are unlikely to notice unless I point it out, and would be bemused at the notion that they or any other man was the reason for me doing so.

NerrSnerr · 09/06/2023 14:24

I suspect that most people who are judging others about their toenails (and appearance in general) have some serious self esteem issues (or are generally not nice people). Most people who are confident in themselves won't care about your toes (and likely won't even notice them).

ToeJammed · 09/06/2023 14:24

I wear sandals and flip flops all the time in summer with unpainted toenails.
I've never even owned a bottle of nail polish.
I don't care a jot what anyone thinks of my trotters.
I doubt that anyone will care about yours either op.

Not everyone needs a mans approval for everything. I like my toes painted, like having them pretty for ME not for anyone else.

@neverinamonthofsundays

I wasn't saying men need to approve your nails, I'm asking, do men feel the same pressure to paint their nails as women? Would you judge a man with unpainted nails?
Why do so many women paint their nails for themselves? Compared to men, it's social conditioning.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/06/2023 14:26

Yes I like painted toes and pay for them - get done maybe every 9/12w depending how quick they grow and £20

Yes takes a few mins / does baby always wake if you aren't in bed ?

What happens if need a wee

Put him In bouncer/playpen - not sure of age while you paint them

Or paint them day of wedding and gave baby to hubby

if you have the money to get toes done professionally - you hold baby. They get painted

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/06/2023 14:27

Best £20 spent

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/06/2023 14:27

I'd do them, but then I've been known to put a peep-toe shoe on ready to go out and then just paint the toe nails that I can see there and then and off I go. Very unlikely to smudge them once the shoes are already on and you're stood up and walking, unless you've a floor length dress on.

AWholeExtraRoom · 09/06/2023 14:30

When I bother to paint my toe nails I basically feel like Gwyneth Paltrow - incredibly well put together. I do it purely for that slightly tongue-in- cheek feeling.

I barely notice and don't give a single flying fuck whether someone else has or has not painted their toenails a weird, unnatural colour and certainly don't judge them if not! I think it's very, very odd that 50% of the people on this thread do! Honestly!

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/06/2023 14:30

To add, I couldn't give a toss about anyone else's toenails (unless they're obviously fungal and nasty, or worse, long 😖) not what they think of mine.

If I were in the OP's position though I'd try and find a few minutes to do them, not because of what anyone else thinks but because I like my toes to be done if my fingers are.

Rightnowstraightaway · 09/06/2023 14:31

I can only think of one person in my whole life whose feet I've admired. Honestly, she should be a foot model. Otherwise I think 99% of feet are a bit manky in general and don't understand why anyone would want to draw attention to them by painting the nails a bright colour 😂

I never paint mine. The one time I did, it chipped immediately and looked shoddy. To my knowledge it has had zero impact on my life 😂

DanceMonster · 09/06/2023 14:31

People don’t tend to match their toes to their fingers though do they?

toomuchlaundry · 09/06/2023 14:33

How are you going to cope with a clingy baby at the wedding?

Yes, they do/

DappledThings · 09/06/2023 12:34

Are unpainted toenails meant to look slovenly now or something? WTF?

I get this is probably meant to be "lighthearted" but has anyone ever actually given a shit about the colour of someone's toenails?

At a previous job my supervisor actually said to me "you could have painted your toe nails if you're going to wear sandals", with a disgusted face!

DanceMonster · 09/06/2023 14:31

I wouldn't know, I don't tend to check if people's varnish matches. The best thing would be for the person having the varnish to have whatever combination of colours (or not) they feel happy with.

Powaqa · 09/06/2023 14:34

I cant paint my toenails - I dont have a full set of nails on each foot.

It would look very odd

toomuchlaundry · 09/06/2023 14:33

Surely just carry the baby everywhere you go (or pass them around to willing guests who want a play/ cuddle).

howlismoving · 09/06/2023 14:35

PleasantOwl · 09/06/2023 13:56

I went to a wedding a couple of years back and one of the guests hadn’t painted their toenails. To be honest it ruined the whole day for everyone, the bride pretended it was OK but was clearly distraught and it was all anyone was talking about. To make matters worse, all the communal photos had to be taken ankle-upwards.

😂

thankfully most people don't, no, it's a bit dated

I wasn’t being snarky, I don’t paint mine at all (well, very rarely). Just wondered if it was something tended to do! Some of the posts on here seem to suggest that not having matching toes/fingers is an issue.

bunchofforgetmenots · 09/06/2023 14:37

Anyone who cares whether your toenails are painted or not is being ridiculous! Only paint them if you really want to. I wear sandals / flipflops with normal unpainted toes all the time
