To not paint my toenails for my friends wedding tomorrow

Hairsayitdontsprayit · 09/06/2023 12:25

First world problem I know! I have painted my fingernails a lovely red but I have lost my toe separators and find painting my toes boring, plus I have a 10 month old baby who makes every task 10x more difficult to complete! My toes will be on show as I have sandals to wear with my dress tomorrow.

UABU- paint your toenails to match your fingernails
UANBU- nude toenails are fine

People don’t tend to match their toes to their fingers though do they?

I do and I think most people who paint their nails do, but you certainly don't have to. You don't have to paint them at all. All the people who are shocked, revolted and morally outraged while they ponder what else you don't care about will just have to get over it.

Urgh I can’t stand unpainted toes. Mine are painted all year round

Are your nails not crying out for some air or sunlight?! I have to take a break if I’ve had some on or else my nails get so unhealthy.

tbh I’d paint them for a wedding only because I’d feel self-conscious in open-toe sandals without, but I wouldn’t think anything of it if someone else chose not to as I’m usually without varnish generally!

NotMeNoNo · 09/06/2023 14:42

Suggest paint them one quick coat in a pale colour, then will look like you've made the effort but be forgiving of technique.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 09/06/2023 14:42

I'm really surprised by the voting tbh. I don't paint my toenails ever, and can't say I've noticed if anyone else I know does either.

sweetdreamstenasee · 09/06/2023 14:43

toenails are so much easier than fingernails and you managed those so unsure of your reasoning re baby.. but you cba then you cba I’m sure no one would give it a second thought.. but the fact you’ve made a mums net post about this makes me think you care what other people think? Haha I don’t know, have fun either way!

turnthetoiletpaperroundproperly · 09/06/2023 14:44

Wish I could reach mine to paint them..my summer body has gone tits up!!

Lachimolala · 09/06/2023 14:47

I always paint mine a different colour every week, not because I care but because I’ve convinced my daughter I’ve got magic toenails that colour change when I want 😂😂

Are unpainted toenails meant to look slovenly now or something? WTF?

I get this is probably meant to be "lighthearted" but has anyone ever actually given a shit about the colour of someone's toenails?

Mine are unpainted. I see they are slovenly. Not too bothered.

Sunnydays0101 · 09/06/2023 14:54

Of course you don’t have to paint them, of course no-one will care whether you do or not but personally, I would paint them or at the very least do an at home pedicure and have your nails filed and trimmed, hard skin removed from soles of feet, use foot cream, etc.

I love looking down at my toes in sandals and seeing neatly trimmed toe-nails painted in a pretty colour. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures, imo.

CharlotteRumpling · 09/06/2023 14:56

The next time there is an MN thread on " How often do you shower?" am going to check if the " Not painting toenails is lazy" posters are on there! Washing in a sink because showering daily takes too long!

tommyshelbysbunnit · 09/06/2023 14:59

I would need to paint mine

DiscoDragon · 09/06/2023 15:00

This post is making me feel jealous, I've just had my big toenails removed and am having to resign myself to the fact that I will never be able to wear sandals or show my hideous feet in public again!

If I still had toenails I would definitely paint them for a special occasion wear I was going to be wearing sandals because it would make me feel pretty. It only takes 5 minutes, I've never bothered with toe seperaters either and usually managed not to get nail polish all over my toes.

flimsywhimsy · 09/06/2023 15:01

I never paint any of my nails. I don't enjoy it, I'm not good at it (because of lack of practice), it never seems to look nice for long before it chips or grows out, I hate the way polish remover makes my nails feel, and... who cares?! They're clean and neatly trimmed. That's good enough.

WakeMeUpWhenGoodOmensIsBack · 09/06/2023 15:08

NerrSnerr · 09/06/2023 14:12

What are people actually doing while their toenails dry? I paint them and then walk around like normal and they dry naturally. I don't know how long it takes but no long, but I don't need to sit on my arse while it's doing it.

The OP should paint her nails as she pleases. It's none of anyone else's business. I'm sure she has many brilliant qualities that she doesn't need to worry whether people are judging her toes.

I agree. The drying time on toenails is a non-issue, especially in the summer, unless you foolishly do it immediately before bedtime. It's not like fingernails where you're incapacitated for the next fifteen minutes (depending on polish type) and have to pick things up using your teeth.

InvincibleInvisibility · 09/06/2023 15:14

I never paint my nails (don't like the feeling and cba).

I live in the Caribbean. Sandals all year long and maybe 1 women out of 10 paints their toe nails.

Would my toes seriously offend those who think unpainted nails are slovenly????

CharlotteRumpling · 09/06/2023 15:15

I dont paint my fingernails either. I like bare short nails.

InvincibleInvisibility · 09/06/2023 15:18

Just realised I should have clicked sensitive image for PPs 🤣

lieselotte · 09/06/2023 15:29

Clear varnish is great - nobody can see if it goes wrong!

I would use it at the moment but I caused a big bruise on my big toenail, so I had to use coloured varnish to cover it up!

I don't use toe separators but I have remembered that I have some flipflop type shoes which effectively separate your toes!

You can also just buff your nails so they are shiny. That's all I did for my wedding.

Of course they are not slovenly.

But if someone is going to the effort of dressing up for an event, maybe wearing make-up, painting their finger-nails, wearing a pair of open toe shoes - it just seems the final step to paint their toe-nails.

My feet look nicer imo with manicured and painted toe-nails, if they are not painted, then I wear closed toe shoes.

I suspect the thread title attracted the toenail painting demographic!

@InvincibleInvisibility
what do you mean - you don’t like the feeling?
toenails don’t have feeling!

@InvincibleInvisibility

also did you miss the bit about Op going to a wedding?? She’s gonna be dressing up, it’s not just an everyday

BogRollBOGOF · 09/06/2023 15:50

I'm very proud of my toenails; all 10 of them are survivors of a marathon 😂

Sometimes I paint them if I'm inclined, often I don't. As it's purely aesthetic and not an essential part of personal hygiene or health, it's entirely optional. Even for a special occasion.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 09/06/2023 15:51

I'm sure her outfit looks lovely. But I personally don't think painted nails (either toes or fingers) make any difference to how "dressed up" someone is. Stuff like make up, painting nails, getting hair done professionally are all things which people can choose to do if they feel like it, but they shouldn't be judged by anyone if they choose not to.
