So this happened a few miles away from where I live.
Call me old fashioned but I think this is totally inappropriate and somebody should have called the police.
I have been a naturist for 40 years but the old fashioned kind who doesn't think dangling your genitals in front of families and young children who have gone for a meal is at all appropriate.
I would question why they found the need to do this. There are plenty of naturist clubs in the area.
People go to naturist clubs to get an all over tan and be a member of an organisation that usually has a pool and cheap membership.
My non naturist friends think I'm being stuffy and ridiculous am I?

Diners shocked as naked pair enjoy meal in Burnham-On-Sea pub

Diners at a Burnham-On-Sea pub say they were shocked after a naked man and woman walked into the bar and were served a meal.

I don't want to be eating a meal and have a dick or a minge come walking past at eye level whilst doing so. Can't believe they weren't asked to leave

This had me howling 😂

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 08/06/2023 20:14

Wouldn’t bother me at all and I wouldn’t find it disgusting. I’ve been in a pub before when 4 people came in naked and sat having a few drinks. I did a double take as it was a bit unexpected and surprised me but that was it.

not something I’d want to do at all but as long as they weren’t engaging in sexual acts I wouldn’t care.

the worst but would be the embarrassment of my kids loudly going “why are those people naked mummy? I can see their boobs/ bum/ Willy” etc.

Cornettoninja · 08/06/2023 20:20

However I have found strong evidence of benefit, that that benefit is large, and that it is particularly important for children and young people

@MalcolmBoura, go on then, what exactly are these benefits?

IAmAnIdiot123 · 08/06/2023 20:36

I doubt I would have even noticed, just a body, we all have one.

Stop it. You would have noticed.

Unless you are blind then I'm really sorry.

You've asserted you've seen 'strong evidence' of the benefit of nudity in public (which is the topic in hand) so the onus is on you to provide this evidence. Otherwise what are you asking them to refute?

Probably helping to strengthen people's gag reflexes 🤣

I don't pay much attention to other people when I'm out and about and once they are sat down, the only 'unusual' thing you would really see would be gasp a woman's nipple on show, mens are socially acceptable so nothing new there.

So no, I don't think I would have noticed.

Not many male nipples out where I live in pubs

Do you live somewhere not in the UK? Where it is really hot?

I saw this article and chuckled to myself at all the utter outrage. It's not illegal, they called ahead to ask if it was OK and they even provided thier own towels to sit on!
I think it's a shame that natural body has become so over sexualised people can't see it as anything else.... But then honestly I did think hmm but would I want my baby daughter to see a strange old man's penis... No, probably not!

Wearing clothes is not a recent thing though.

Glad they bought towels though. That is thoughtfull and more hygienic. Pricks.

MalcolmBoura · 08/06/2023 22:26

DerekFaker, you say the onus of proof is on the person making the claim. I agree entirely. You are the person who made the first claim and I have never found anyone making such claims who can provide a shred of evidence to support it.

Massively improved body-image and body-knowledge. There are also wider benefits arising from greater openness about the body. For example the most prudish western countries have about 8 times the teenage pregnancy rate of the least prudish. Take a look at the figures for the USA and European countries. Yes, that is not a typo, eight times the rate.

Please explain how sight of a penis might harm a baby.

I call Bullshit. Places like Ghana have loads of children and many of the clothes they wear are donated. I've known children wearing donated nighties as dresses.

Are all the perverts starting to post now?

Keep your genitals hidden unless someone wants to see them. Weirdos!

JediNinja · 08/06/2023 22:40

@TheGreatATuin put it perfectly. No surprise penis.

"As others have said, this can cause considerable trauma in those with a history of abuse.
There is a fairly simple rule here and that is "Is it a surprise penis?"
Seeing a penis should never be a surprise. It should either be somewhere expected such as a male changing room or clearly designated (!) naturist space or to someone who would reasonably expect to see it come out (in a consenting relationship for e.g).
This isn't that difficult. I'm tired of men getting their dicks out in front of people who don't want to see them and then acting like women are prudes when we object.
No surprise penis."

They decided that their rights superseded those of everyone else in the pub. This wasn't a pub that advertised itself as for naturist. No TripAdvisor review mentioned this prior to the day. It was known in the area as a family pub. The pub decided to champion the rights of this couple instead of the rights of those who have experienced trauma, sexual assault, or sexual harassment for whom this unsolicited display of genitals was unexpected, couldn't be avoided, and was forced onto them. It's not protecting those who need to be protected. I would expect that after setting precedent, more people might turn out to do the same. It might cost them clientele in the long term, unless there are more naturists than non-naturists in the area?

ArabeIIaScott · 08/06/2023 22:43

Maybe we need a campaign of our own.

'Put it away - no surprise penis.'

And the use of heavily vale laden and judgemental terms like 'prudish' is bullshit we can all see straight through, BTW.

I think you have a problem about stranger's nudity in front of children. It's wrong so fuck off.

Well if it isn't about harm then why are you trying to curtail people's freedom to dress as they choose? You might like to think about the policies of the Taliban before replying. Why is this demand to hide the body any different?
