Am I a Mooncup minger?

MooncupMinger · 03/06/2023 19:48

I use a Mooncup (actually a Boots copy one, but that’s beside the point). When I empty it, I pour the contents into the loo, then wash it out in the bathroom sink next to the toilet. Whenever I wash it out I think to myself that DP would probably find it gross that I’m washing it out where he washes his face/brushes his teeth etc. He could also walk in at any second, as we never lock the bathroom door, so there’s always the fear that I’m going to be outed as a Mooncup minger. Tbh he might think it’s a non-event.

I COULD turn the other way and wash it out in the bath, but that seems a bit overkill. Also… what do people do in their downstairs loos (which I don’t have)?!

So…

YABU - you’re a minger and should wash it out in the bath.

YANBU - it’s a normal bodily function (/fluid 😂) and it’s fine to wash it out in the sink.

The wash basin needs to be washed out after! Especially if people are using the plug and filling the basin up to wash their faces.

Washed out as in cleaned with cleaning spray etc?! Nope.. don’t do that, but then people don’t do that after cleaning their teeth and spitting in there.. just wash it away with water

Am I the only one who just wipes it out with a wet wipe when in a public bathroom (and at home when I'm being lazy)? Haven't had to walk to the sinks with blood running down my arms yet.

I don’t understand the issue with doing it in the sink. Is he licking the sink when he cleans his teeth? The sink is also where you wash dirty hands, rinse cuts, spit into etc…

Exactly this!

GimmeSleep · 03/06/2023 21:19

Mine got stuck and I had to ask DH to help me get it out 😣

So yeah, I never used it again.

What kind? Please don't say a cleaning wipe. As in citrus-scented Flash ones. 😁

Decafflatteplease · 03/06/2023 21:20

Totally normal OP! I wash mine in the bathroom sink aswell as period pads and pants. It's a bathroom sink it's fine!

If you felt really fussy, you could have a tiny bowl to wash it in, then toss the wash~ water down the loo..
I did this not with a moon cup but when rinsing out sinuses with a Neil med during a sinus infection. But infected sinus gunk is different in my opinion.

SumAndSubstance · 03/06/2023 21:22

I have a friend who refers to a sink in a bedroom as a ‘gentleman’s en suite’. I don’t think you should worry.

39cupsoftea · 03/06/2023 21:22

i use pads only but i cant see any wrong washing it in the sink

Oh my word, is that true?! If I accidentally drop my cup in the loo I bleach it before using it again. There’s all sorts of germs and bacteria in the loo, other people’s poo and wee, and probably bleach or chemicals too. You’re going to catch a disease from putting that inside you!

I dropped mine in a bog on a camping trip (it was dark and windy/stormy). Didn't have anything to rinse it with, so just shoved it back in. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My prayers were answered and I was somehow spared from getting BV.

Like other posters, I don't rinse when out and about, just dump and reinsert. And I also use a saucepan to boil. One time I put the cup in the dishwasher, but became paranoid about dishwasher tablet residue, so have not repeated that.

Menstrual blood is not dirty

Of course! Dettol ocean fresh. After I give it a scrub with the toilet brush.

(Kidding! Tesco Luxury Soft flushable wipes. Only the very best for my mooncup.)

Throwncrumbs · 03/06/2023 21:36

I put mine in the dishwasher

Wonkyboobs · 03/06/2023 21:39

I've had my mooncup for about 15 years. I love the thing... owe my second child to it 😆(I pulled it out too quickly and my coil came out with the cup). I ALWAYS wash it out in the sink. I wash it out in the sink in toilets out and about too. I clean it in between with soap and water. If I don't have a bottle of water with me and no sink out and about I just wipe it out with tissue paper and replace. When I think how minging hands can get and they are washed in sinks a bit of fresh period blood is really not the worst of substances to touch a sink. Crack on I say.

Houselamp · 03/06/2023 21:40

Surely the sink is better than the bath? Unless I'm cleaning the sink nobody is touching the basin we just use the water but you get fully into a bath.
Plus its more effort to clean the bath afterwards than just the sink

Barleymilk · 03/06/2023 21:40

I think I will carry on with my flush method as seem others do the same, but ofcourse a good soaping of hands and cup in the sink after.
The blood always sits at the bottom of the loo after the flush so needs another flush or a few pumps with the loo brush ( and definitely a good hand wash after touching that handle!)

Latenightreader · 03/06/2023 21:41

I bought the cheapest of cheap saucepans from the supermarket (£2.50 I think, although about 15 years ago). I painted women symbols on the outside with nailvarnish so it wouldn't get used for anything else, and keep it in a different place from my other saucepans.

My new job doesn't have sinks in the cubical so I just empty and replace, giving my hands a good wipe with loo roll if needed. I love my mooncup - I never realised how sore tampon strings made me until I stopped using them, just assumed it was part of a period.

MakesMeFeelSad · 03/06/2023 21:43

I don't have one but why would you think washing it in the sink is worse than in the bath?

lovemelongtime · 03/06/2023 21:44

Barleymilk · 03/06/2023 20:06

I tend to hold mine in the loo and flush and wash it that way.
Sounds even worse than using sink now I think about it.

I think you've been out grossed 🤣

YeahOkWhatever · 03/06/2023 21:45

Sink here. You're fine.

LadyJ2023 · 03/06/2023 21:46

Sorry I did lol, sink that's what it's for lol no worse than my hubby shaving over the sink and forgetting to wash it out occasionally now that's what's bad 🤣

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 03/06/2023 21:51
Confused

Just clean out the sink afterwards if it bothers you that much?

FWIW in the ten + years I've been using one, I've only ever needed to empty it when out and about once. If I had to I'd just wipe out with loo roll and then wash hands after.

Buttercupsdaisiesdandelions · 03/06/2023 21:56

Sink is fine.

DH would be grossed out if I used the same saucepan for boiling my mooncup and cooking, so I have a dedicated saucepan, kept separately from our cooking saucepans. It's just a cheap supermarket one.

lemonaddde · 03/06/2023 21:57

The sink gets bleached every few days in my house and sprayed with bathroom cleaner daily so I don't see any issue with it!

Pahahahaha! I used to use the sink in my uni bedroom as my “en-suite”, but then I was only being a minger in my own sink 🤣
