Am I a Mooncup minger?

MooncupMinger · 03/06/2023 19:48

I use a Mooncup (actually a Boots copy one, but that’s beside the point). When I empty it, I pour the contents into the loo, then wash it out in the bathroom sink next to the toilet. Whenever I wash it out I think to myself that DP would probably find it gross that I’m washing it out where he washes his face/brushes his teeth etc. He could also walk in at any second, as we never lock the bathroom door, so there’s always the fear that I’m going to be outed as a Mooncup minger. Tbh he might think it’s a non-event.

I COULD turn the other way and wash it out in the bath, but that seems a bit overkill. Also… what do people do in their downstairs loos (which I don’t have)?!

So…

YABU - you’re a minger and should wash it out in the bath.

YANBU - it’s a normal bodily function (/fluid 😂) and it’s fine to wash it out in the sink.

This is what puts me off using one. How do you wash it out when at work? Use the sinks and then have to go back into a stall?

Omg you need to stop doing that 🤣🤣

Urr yes, then give a good shake.
I wouldn't dry it with loo paper as bits may stick to it and stay inside you?
Surely flush water is just tap water? 😃

I don't have one but I'd assume you don't install a separate sink to have one, much like I don't have a separate sink when my kids shit themselves etc. I just wash stuff in the nearest sink. Does your husband not realise you have periods?

🤣🤣🤣

Barleymilk · 03/06/2023 20:06

I tend to hold mine in the loo and flush and wash it that way.
Sounds even worse than using sink now I think about it.

No you don't
Surely?

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/06/2023 20:11

Bathroom sink at home - I mean anyone shaving in it is washing hair, blood from cutting themselves, skin bits etc down there, plus dirty hands, sweat, spit...

Out and about, small bottle of water in my bag and shake dry.

Would not hold under the flush, that water is coming past bits of toilet sprayed with other peoples wee and poo particles, before it touches your mooncup.

If the toilet in question had a hand-held bum-gun, I would use that though.

I consider myself pretty lax on some hygiene things, but ewwwww!

Onepotatotwopotatothreepotatofour · 03/06/2023 20:12

@Barleymilk sure, but as soon as that water touches the rim or the sides it’ll be teeming with bacteria?!?!

InMySpareTime · 03/06/2023 20:13

Flush water is not as clean as tap water, as all sorts of poo particles and bacteria are under the rim, and the water passes that before getting to the bowl.
If there's a rim block or something you'd be rinsing in bleachy water then putting that inside.

Hamfish · 03/06/2023 20:13

I would worry if I had a husband that would consider me a ‘minger’ for dealing with my period….

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 03/06/2023 20:18

How do people get them out without the blood spilling everywhere? Anyway, if you'd wash a cut finger in the sink, this is no different.

Barleymilk · 03/06/2023 20:19

Well I am disgusted with myself! I honestly thought my way was quickest and cleanest. I've tried the sink but with blood on my hand and stringy bits it was just easier but yep,I have been the mooncup minger and will go back to using the sink ☺

pattyparsnip · 03/06/2023 20:20

Just pop it in the dishwasher

Oh my word, is that true?! If I accidentally drop my cup in the loo I bleach it before using it again. There’s all sorts of germs and bacteria in the loo, other people’s poo and wee, and probably bleach or chemicals too. You’re going to catch a disease from putting that inside you!

HomeB · 03/06/2023 20:23

Omfg. Why is the lid even up when you are flushing it @Barleymilk

And you're leaning into the pooticles and inhaling them. Jesus wept

That's actually made me gasp. Surely you're joining?

Changingmynameyetagain · 03/06/2023 20:27

I wash mine in the sink between uses.
I have an old plastic beaker that I use to sterilise it when I've finished my period.

Felicia00 · 03/06/2023 20:27

I've thought about getting one but sticking my fingers up my bleeding fanny to insert it then trying to wash blood off hands then washing it out puts me off it seems so messy. Applicator tampons all the way.

Hairbrushhandle · 03/06/2023 20:28

I am definitely not coordinated enough to hold a full cup of blood in one hand, try to get out a bottle in another, in a tiny cubicle without ending up looking like I've stayed a night at the hotel in The Shining. And I flood so I'd need to do it every half an hour/hour on my heavy days at work. I love the reusable idea of cups and have tried 4 brands now but just cannot get on with them at all.

I have used a mooncup for years and my fingers get no more bloody than when I used to use tampons and had to pull on the bloody string. In fact, less so.

I empty into the toilet, rinse in the sink and after my period ends I boil in a saucepan, which then goes in the dishwasher.

when out and about if I need to empty it I just have a bottle of water on me and use that to rinse it if I can’t access a cubicle with a sink in.

I wouldn’t in a million years go back to tampons.

I don't rinse it when out and about.

MaryJean87 · 03/06/2023 20:31

I've never used one, sounds like too much arsing about. I think you're OK to rinse in the sink, it's only your husband using it. Don't rinse it in the toilet though and put in your vagina, please.

WaltzingWaters · 03/06/2023 20:32

I wash mine in the sink. Just obviously make sure the sink is then clean afterwards.

They're flexible, so it comes out/down with a bit of pressure on the sidewall and you tilt to empty as you're sitting down.

I might have learned about the always sitting down a little later than usual.
