Nose piercing at 45?

AmITooOldToDoThis · 03/06/2023 08:48

posting for traffic

have been considering getting my nose (nostril) pierced for about 25 years. I’m 45 now and feeling that if I’m going to do it I should just do it!

I work in a professional role but have crazy coloured hair that doesn’t raise many eyebrows these days. Peers at work have nose piercings (but I assume had them from young). A colleague is getting visible tattoos at 50.

so, should I go for it or would I be ridiculous to do it?

It’s not very painful OP, bit sharp and makes your eyes water cos it’s near your sinuses but it’s no worse than an injection. Over in a second.

Absolutely do go for it, they look awesome and it’s not weird or unusual nowadays. I’ve had mine done twice and my husband has one too 😄, I’m a sucker for a guy with a nose ring!

You don’t have to take them out for a cold (?!) and although they do heal up quickly if you leave jewellery out, you’ll have so much fun find finding nice little jewels to switch it out every now and then.

Do it!

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 03/06/2023 09:40

Do it.

I had my nose pierced last year and I'm booked to get my first tattoo in 3 weeks time....I'm 57.

Xtraincome · 03/06/2023 09:43

Got mine as birthday gift from DH last year for my 36th. I absolutely love it!! Go for it OP.

ohfook · 03/06/2023 09:46

I'm in my forties. I've always fancied a nose piercing but never did because I've got a big nose and didn't want to draw attention to it. When I was 40 I just had a real fuck-it phase and got it done and actually it looks fine - I just feel sad that I spent two decades not doing something quite basic really for fear of what other people might think.

polkadottysilly · 03/06/2023 09:50

I had my first tattoo at 35 and my mum yelled at me 😂😂😂

Mabelface · 03/06/2023 10:27

Got mine done, courtesy of my daughter for my 50th birthday. I asked for a tragus bar so it would stay in if I caught it on something. Took 3 months to heal completely, with twice daily saline washes and a hot chamomile teabag held on it twice a day, which reduced fluid build up and swelling. Currently considering another helix piercing at 53.

But not afterwards? I’ve read that it takes 6 months to heal and I’m imagining it will be painful for a while after being done?

It healed fine.😊

thehappyhaggis · 03/06/2023 10:39

Do it OP, I had mine done at 40.

I've always wanted it done but put it off because of a metal allergy and fear it would leave me with a scar if rejected. But, I've had no problems. I've got a small sparkly stud and I love it.

I've also got to say, no one out with my closest friends / family actually really noticed. And the few who did (eg, colleagues) just assumed it had always been there and they hadn't noticed it before.

I work in a professional job too and it's honestly not been an issue.

Littledogball · 03/06/2023 10:40

I had mine done at 50. Love it!

Iheartmysmart · 03/06/2023 10:40

I had my nose pierced for my 50th, now six years later I have 10 ear piercings and six tattoos as well. Life is short, do what you want and don’t give a second thought to any one else’s opinion.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 03/06/2023 10:44

I did mine in my mid 40s. It did hurt but only for a second and after that it was fine

JamSandle · 03/06/2023 10:47

Absolutely go for it. You've wanted it for a long time and can always take it out if you don't like it.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 03/06/2023 10:52

Do it before cough and cold season starts if you're going to!

StonwEd · 03/06/2023 11:00

Last year aged 42 I got mine done after a life time of working in a school 😅 did it the day after I left, love it. It really hurt though, was not prepared for that and it took months to heal, and recently I left it out for 3 hours by accident and practically had to re pierce it 😂 but apart from all of that, I love it!!
I think they look beautiful on everyone 🙃

U2HasTheEdge · 03/06/2023 11:08

I have my septum and lip pierced. I am almost 42.

I work in a professional role and it's never been an issue. Loads of people have their noses pierced.

Devpatelslaughingeyes · 03/06/2023 11:08

Had mine done at 50. 76 now and love it as much as the day it was done.

If you want it just do it 😁

ShortColdandGrey · 03/06/2023 11:11

I repierced mine during lockdown. I say go for it.

AmITooOldToDoThis · 03/06/2023 11:15

I DID IT!!!!!!!

Only hurt for a second. Very little blood. Eyes barely watered.

Wondering why I didn’t do it sooner!

Can’t remember the last time I had a cold. I still haven’t had Covid!

Go for it! I've had mine done when i was 17, I have a ring in mine as I got fed up with studs constantly falling out in my sleep so I havent changed it in years. Honesty I forget it's there mostly now!

Only thing on the colds - I do end up more blocked up on the side with my piercing and when you blow your nose make sure you have a mirror on hand to check the piercing!

As for scar - yes it will scar if its in a while and you take it out. you can visibly see DH one and he took his out about 10 years ago now.

SaveMeFromForearms · 03/06/2023 11:18

Absolutely do it, I got mine done recently and I am so in love with it!

It is being a bit of a pain to heal, but I'm sure it'll settle down. It hurts like buggery but only for about 3 seconds.

You'll be fine!

SootspriteSearcher · 03/06/2023 11:19

Cross posted! Yay it looks great!

Rainyrunway · 03/06/2023 11:22

It looks fab OP well done. I'm 45 and have wanted a stud for YEARS too but I have a bump on my nose (old break from when I was a child that didn't heal straight) and I'm worried it I'll look ugly. Maybe I should try it and take it out if it looks crap. Anyone with a non "cute" nose have it done? How's it look?

If you have a bull you don't like look into liquid rhinoplasty- using fillers it can be disguised with no surgery needed, I did this and was delighted with the results
