Nose piercing at 45?

have been considering getting my nose (nostril) pierced for about 25 years. I’m 45 now and feeling that if I’m going to do it I should just do it!

I work in a professional role but have crazy coloured hair that doesn’t raise many eyebrows these days. Peers at work have nose piercings (but I assume had them from young). A colleague is getting visible tattoos at 50.

so, should I go for it or would I be ridiculous to do it?

If you want to do it go for it. But I always think that unless you're close up to someone, nose rings look like bits of snot dangling from a nostril.

I don’t want a ring. Just a little sparkly stud.

I'm 49 next month and got mine done about 3 yrs ago. I love it! I just wear a tiny jewel stud though not a ring. It did hurt (a lot!) for those few seconds while they pierce it (apparently wiggling your toes helps!) but once done it didn't hurt at all. I just used a piercing wound spray twice a day to keep it clean and it healed fine.

I'm not sure why you're asking - someone suggested you were being ridiculous and you shot them down.

It's your face, do it if you want to 🤷‍♀️

PimpMyFridge · 03/06/2023 09:01

I'm having piercing envy.
My ears have gradually become more and more allergic toeverything, even the special stuff I bought for allergy sufferers that I used for years without problems.
Now I can't even wear earrings never mind the extra excitement of nose options.
Do it op I will live vicariously through you. 🤣

Matildahoney · 03/06/2023 09:03

I had mine done at 38, I had it in over a year and it never fully healed so I ended up taking it out 😪 I loved it though.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2023 09:03

I have tattoos, nose piercing and pink hair at 61. I work in the NHS and nobody cares.

IamnotSethRogan · 03/06/2023 09:05

I got mine done last year. It wasn't particularly painful and I love it. It was never even something I'd thought about too much then all of a sudden I really wanted it. Honestly just do it, there's no reason not to

I haven’t shot anyone down?

I had my nose pierced in my 20s but it had closed up now. I’m 50 and would love to have it again. You’ve got me thinking….

LlynTegid · 03/06/2023 09:07

I wouldn't do it, at any age. Seems a bit last century to me, tattoos seem to be the new piercings as it were.

Senmamaneedssleep · 03/06/2023 09:08

I was worried I was too old at 29 to get it done but then reminded myself that if I’d had it done at 15 and still loved it, I’d still be a 29 year old with a nose piercing. I believe this applies to all ages!

if you’d had it done in your 20s and loved it, you’d still be in your 40s with a nose piercing. So it is no different getting it done now!

catsnhats11 · 03/06/2023 09:12

I'm in my 40s and love my nose stud, although I had it done in my teens. It's pretty much the only piercing I still keep jewellery in, rarely even bother with earrings. Go for it.

Unlike tattoos though if you change your mind about a piercing, getting rid of them is fairly straightforward.
I would personally ask what kind of mark a nose piercing will leave if you change your mind-years ago someone told me it looks like a manky blackhead .

I have the wrong shaped nostrils , I’ve tried glue on crystal gems when I was faffing about , they were never in the right place .

So are you a Left or Right Nostril?

Fizbosshoes · 03/06/2023 09:17

I had mine done (twice) in my teens but each time I took out the stud if I had a cold for example , the hole closed up.im 45 and I've been considering it again for a year or 2 but not done anything about it! Teen DD says she approves not that I need her approval so I'm guessing it's not too embarrassing!!

LittlePoBeep · 03/06/2023 09:17

Had my nose pierced at 46! Took longer than 6 months to heal (prob closer to a year!) and there were times I nearly took it out. But I stuck with it and it's fine now and I love it!

You have to take them out if you get a cold?!

My daughter stuck gems on me and decided left nostril is best. I sleep on my right side so thought that would be best!

(having my ears repierced so don’t want too much discomfort when sleeping)

I don't think you have to, I just didn't like it getting gunky (sorry tmi!)

polkadottysilly · 03/06/2023 09:20

Do it, I love mine!

Every single one of my female colleagues and friends over 40 has had their nose pierced since Covid!

Tudorfish · 03/06/2023 09:20

KimberleyClark · 03/06/2023 08:52

If you want it go for it. Your age is irrelevant!

True. They look hideous on all ages.

OP - there's a reason you haven't had it done for 25 years.

Gymmum82 · 03/06/2023 09:21

Do it. I have mine done. I just got a new helix piercing and I’m 41. I’ll get more in the future. They don’t have an age limit

bringonyourwreckingball · 03/06/2023 09:23

I had mine done at 47 and love it - I’m in a professional role but it has not raised any eyebrows at all. Kids (late teens) think it’s cool. It hurt a lot less than I thought it would and if I take it out you can’t really see the hole

Yes, a severe nickel allergy. But having spoken to the piercer when DD had her ears done, I don’t need to worry as can have implant-grade titanium jewellery.

Lord, yes. Life is short. Do whatever you like to your own body. I work in a private school and some colleagues have piercings and tattoos.

Fudgewomble · 03/06/2023 09:31

I really loathe nose piercings and they turn my stomach when I see them - but if you want one, go for it! There’ll be judgy annoying people like me out there (I’m the same age as you) but we won’t say anything 😁.
