Dan Wootton is a prick

Lots of threads on PS at the moment but I'd like to look a bit more closely at Dan Wootton the so called celebrity expert who is literally salivating over the Holly and Phil controversy. This is the man who writes horrible vitriol about celebrities daily. He stuck the knife into Caroline flack repeatedly. I'm not defending Phil, he's done wrong and the whole culture at ITV seems toxic but seriously? Is this ok? Do these people honestly want to push people to the very brink with their witch hunts?

I like Eamon Holmes and I think he has a relevant point to make but pairing up with Dan is just awful and cheap. Dan actually interviewed Kerry Katona recently who made many references to Caroline Flack (in a positive light) and Dan just sat there utterly barefaced as if he wasn't part of the media circus that pushed her to suicide.

It really seems like they won't be happy until Phil does something to harm himself at which point he'll probably change his tune and talk about what a great bloke he is. Utter utter scum.

I watched some GN news this week because I was interested in what Eamonn had to say.

Dan Wootton is a thoroughly unpleasant character. Absolutely gloating over Phillip Schofield. He’s full of faux outrage and fake concern underpinned with smarmy insincerity. He’s like the Daily Mail in human form.

StemStem · 03/06/2023 10:16

You are totally right OP. He was vile to Caroline Flack and the same people who were upset over her suicide are the same people enjoying him doing the same to PS. Human beings are trash.

Swrigh1234 · 03/06/2023 10:17

To be fair, you may not like the way he says it, but most of what he says about these nasty celebrities turns out to be right. Schofield is just the latest.

I despise Dan Wootton, he is an absolute scumbag.

I have never trolled anyone before or since, but I admit I trolled him daily after Caroline Flack.

He is an utterly vile human being. As is, PS.

PS - How dare he bring up Caroline Flack and compare his situation to hers? WTAF.

He is trying to change the narrative by making insinuations towards suicide. Absolutely disgusting but showing who he really is. A gaslighting, manipulative, cowardly scumbag.

Agreed

LizzieSiddal · 03/06/2023 10:27

Those saying Ruth and Eammon shouldn’t have congratulated on his Coming Out Show, what do you expect them to do?
They were due to present that programme that day and were told minutes before they went live that he was going to come out. It was a live show, what would you expect them to say on live TV when they’ve had zero time to prepare? Plus PS was doing the full on weeping like a baby.

Over40Overdating · 03/06/2023 10:33

@LizzieSiddal theres a middle ground between saying nothing and hugging and gushing about bravery and friendship.

Ruth, at least, had the awareness to look uncomfortable at the hypocrisy.

Eamonn is every bit as bad as Wooton and will rue the day he made himself chief moral arbiter and storyteller.

I quite like him! And Piers!

(Don't think there is anyone in real life I feel I could admit this to! This feels a bit like confession! Though I doubt I'll get forgiveness here 😉)

What about him is there to like?

Itsallsostressful · 03/06/2023 11:07

I literally just joined MN to say I really want this on a t shirt ! 😁

It's not just what he says it's the sheer relentlessness of it.

Who cares in the case of child grooming though.

The timing of this thread to complain about Wootton is odd. Did you start any threads before about him, say after his relentless negative attention on Meghan Markle?

Not going to happen.

Has grooming been proven? He could, as he has said, met him while he was a minor but nothing romantic happened until much later. Or maybe that's not the case. But we don't know. Neither does Wootton. It's up to the police to investigate if they have reason to believe there's been a crime.

In any case he's behaved appallingly and treated his family very badly. Not to mention the alleged toxic culture at ITV. But grubby wootton who is practically salivating over all this is no better. He is vile.

He met him as a young teen. He followed him on social media. He messaged him. He has been very vague about the messages/contact between them. He got him a job. He helped him with a showreel. He then started having a sexual relationship with him when he was older, in his dressing room. He lied to everyone about it.

That is grooming. He’s just passing it off as ‘we were mates’. No. It was grooming.

Again, as you didn’t answer. The timing of this thread to complain about Wootton is odd. Did you start any threads before about him, say after his relentless negative attention on Meghan Markle? As you’re so appalled at Wootton. You must have done. Right? I mean, he’s been doing this pre Schofield.

Roussette · 03/06/2023 12:09

Dan Wootton is a revolting nasty man. He will jump on any bandwagon to bully.

(Disclaimer, before I go any further, Schofield and what he has done and the lying about it, hiding it, his treatment of his family is abhorrent)

Wootton called Kerry Katona crazy, whilst knowing she is bi-polar. He relentlessly savaged her, Caroline Flack calling her 'wacky flacky', Meghan Markle and now Schofield. He gets off on hate. He abused Alexandra Burke just after her mother had died. Her replies to him were dignified and kind when she said his tweets about her were really upsetting her, but he just drilled down with nastiness.

He has a very short memory too. He wrote an article saying Charles hasn't the capacity to be King. Next minute he's sucking up to him.

Odious man.

bitzermaloney23 · 03/06/2023 12:44

@AConstantGreyInTheClouds I have slagged Dan off many times, this isn't a new view based on how he's treating Phil. I was particularly appalled at how he hounded Caroline Flack. I know he's gone after Meghan too, so have many others. So yeah I'm not really sure what your point is? I've always thought he's a dickhead. HTH.

It hasn’t been proven. And as far as I can see, most of the things people are saying on this thread aren’t proven either. It’s all just hearsay.

All we know as fact is that PS had an affair at work with a much younger, impressionable colleague and lied about it. Not condoning it or saying he shouldn’t have lost his job, but doesn’t this happen literally all over the world every day? People make bad decisions and abuse their positions of power all the time. ALL the time.

It hardly makes him an abuser/vile human being/scum.

IncomingTraffic · 03/06/2023 17:23

Abusing your position of power over a young person doesn’t make you an abuser?

Abusing doesn’t make you an abuser?

Really?

It would appear so. Fascinating 🤨

lemmein · 03/06/2023 17:46

I fucking despise Dan Wootton; everything about him makes my skin crawl.

He didn't leave ITV because they ignored his complaint about PS. I don't believe for one second he even complained - he's like Piers Morgan, has to force himself into the hero of the story somewhere 🙄 He said previously that he left because they wouldn't give him free reign to terrorise Meghan Markle (that was when he wanted to insert himself into the Piers/ITV story!)

He's not even bright enough to delete the receipts off his social media before he changes his stupid little stories - not that it matters because a lot of the British public will swallow it anyway.

Same as Piers Morgan when he was one of the first to express his condolences when Savile died. Are we to believe an editor of a national newspaper had no idea about Saviles crimes at the time of his death? Fuck, i live in the arse-end of a tiny town in the north east and I knew! He told a story of when he met Savile, and how he'd always liked him - this then changed to 'I never met him' once his crimes were uncovered.

They've both spent the last 5 years using their platforms to rip apart MM - they don't care about the truth, they just like to be the centre of the story.

I'm sick of these men and their fucking huge, entitled egos - they all need to disappear, evil little trolls.

ArcaneWireless · 03/06/2023 18:00

This is absolutely not on the same scale as the press witch hunts but I’m not sure this thread is any different.

Who is to say that a comment here wouldn’t have someone running to do something awful?

Anyway, I think the self serving interview of PS probably cemented the opinions of folk.

Complaining is totally fine. Someone getting the sack also totally fine. Being disliked, hated even - also totally fine and understandable.

What’s not ok is the absolute witch hunt we as Britons seem to enjoy. We all know this has gone way beyond complaining, both in the media and on threads like this.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 03/06/2023 18:11

Good God - this is still going on, on what must be the billionth thread on this. They’re all as bad as each other surely - what do you think you’re being unreasonable about?

Really?

Abusing your position isn’t the same as being an abuser though. It’s semantics, but I think it’s important.
