Would you let your 4 year old wear a bare midriff top to nursery?

Received a top and short set from a bag of hand me down clothes. It's aged 3-4. My daughter loves it, it's waterproof material so it's great for water play in the garden. Nursery is having a water play day tomorrow and my daughter is desperate to wear it. It sits right above the belly button and has cold shoulders as well.
Would you send your daughter to nursery in it or would it raise a few eyebrows? I'm thinking it may be more beach wear but I have no idea. I may be overthinking but I'd love some more opinions.

It's not warm enough at the moment for shoulderless cropped tops.

Forgetmenott · 31/05/2023 23:11

I wouldn’t let my 4yo wear a bare midriff top at all.

MrsSkylerWhite · 31/05/2023 23:12

No, unless she’s at the beach.

Quitelikeit · 31/05/2023 23:12

Nope incase she caught the sun

but at home yes

Miya24 · 31/05/2023 23:12

Don't know where you are but it's over 20° in Glasgow and def warm enough

SnaccidentsHappen · 31/05/2023 23:14

The only reason I wouldn't is sunburn. I'd prob put her in a long sleeve swim top

No, not appropriate for nursery imo

AlltheFs · 31/05/2023 23:17

Absolutely not.
DD is nearly 4 and that is a hard no.

I wouldn't wear beach wear outside at 20c.

LolaSmiles · 31/05/2023 23:17

I wouldn't, but that's because it looks like beach wear, I think it's best for children to be covered up in the sun, in practical play clothes, and think anything that's likely to ride up or sit awkwardly is going to hinder play.

JeandeServiette · 31/05/2023 23:18

It's a swimming costume. So no.

Is it really? Wow. It's definitely not something I would let her swim in a pool with.

No

Blueskysunflower · 31/05/2023 23:25

Nope, not at nursery or anywhere else, including the beach. I don’t like crop tops, cold shoulders, spaghetti straps, bikinis etc on little girls. Mine would be wearing a regular shape t-shirt, or if getting wet in the sun, a rash vest or sunsuit .

SchoolShenanigans · 31/05/2023 23:26

Family garden? Yes. Nursery or out and about, nope.

summerfinn · 31/05/2023 23:27

Why do some people dress young children like grown adults. I wouldn't even wear that let alone let a four year old girl wear it. Dress children in comfy colourful clothes. Not skinny jeans and a belly top🙈🙄

I was thinking the same thing this is as good as it gets. Fingers crossed 🤞 for summer.

Op I think I'd worry too much about her getting burnt in it. But fine for wearing indoors

M103 · 31/05/2023 23:36

I wouldn't choose to buy it, but if we had it and she was desperate to wear it at nursery, I'd let her.

Sprinkles211 · 31/05/2023 23:38

Hard nope!

It's not something I would have bought for her and I wouldn't have even thought about her wearing it, except she loves it. (It has a matching hat haha). But people make them in this size so someone must be buying them?

I wouldn't put a 4 year old in a cold shoulder top, the market for them is probably similar to the market for cheeky chappy slogan tops for boys and denim or fake leather jackets for young children. I am a snob about things like that. I have received hand me down clothes that wouldn't be my first choice, but at that age would probably sort through the bag myself not in front of DC.

I wouldn't think 20° is warm enough for beachwear but I guess children run around and get hot. And DH is apparently wiped out by the not hot enough heat.

Carryonkeepinggoing · 31/05/2023 23:59

try it over a plain t shirt. It’ll probably make her happy and the tshirt will cover her shoulders and tummy for the sun.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 01/06/2023 00:03

My nursery isn't judgey so yes I would, if they wanted to wear it. What is the harm? I think midriff is fine. I draw the line at some bumcheek skimming shorts I just got in a hand me down bag. Straight in the rag bag!
