Buying on vinted

Keep wasting money. Buy something that is sold as very good condition and on receipt item is bobbled/ very well used/ faded. Also looks nothing like the picture. Going through a financially hard time and needed loads of new clothes so thought would be a good idea but wasted so much about half of items only fit for bin or charity shop. Plus by the time you add on all other fees not that cheap. AIBU to give up on vinted for good? Or have others had more luck on there.

otherwise there isn't any point in paying for 'buyer protection'

Agree the buyer protection is pretty much useless. Just an admin charge really.

Thesunnymood · 30/05/2023 11:19

Buyers should be refunded return postage if there is sufficient proof that the item is not as described eg the tesco sleepsuit, otherwise there isn't any point in paying for 'buyer protection'.

Absolutely. I had to return wrong parcel...

shelbabab · 30/05/2023 11:33

I've hardly had anything that I wasn't happy with. I remember something that I thought god if I'd have known how bad they were I'd not have bothered. To me they looked fit for the bin. I did think about opening a claim but I decided not to it was about £6-£7 or something.

If it's happening to you a lot then def put a claim in. Only problem with vinted they make u pay return postage.

Maybe u wld be best filtering on new with tags but in my experience I think u have been unlucky.

I just got a great pair of Nike trainers for my son whose feet grow every time I look at them!

Eek, be careful with "name" trainers in there... there are loads of new trainers in good makes, including Nike, where the sellers have no feedback. They're fakes!

So so so many counterfeits.
If it’s a bargain price, new, no feedback seller, multiple photos showing angles, I steer clear.

MidnightMeltdown · 30/05/2023 11:49

YANBU

Vinted is shit. I've only ever bought a couple of things, but one was described as 'new' and obviously wasn't. It was stained. To add insult to injury, Vinted expect the buyer to pay the return postage in these situations!

I will never buy from there again. It's a scammers paradise. EBay is much better imo as they have proper buyer protection.

mamabear715 · 30/05/2023 12:02

Never used, never would. It's all PR, isn't it? 'Up-market' ebay..

Mutabiliss · 30/05/2023 12:23

I go for brands that I know are good quality - so I'll buy old Boden or Monsoon, but wouldn't bother with New Look or Matalan (for example) because I know they tend not to wear well. I also avoid anything with rubbish pictures unless I really, really want it and can be bothered with requesting better ones, because poor quality pictures often seems to mean poor quality clothes.

I much prefer Vinted as a seller and buyer to ebay🙍

IhearyouClemFandango · 30/05/2023 12:30

Yeah likewise, I barely use eBay now.

Thefaceofboe · 30/05/2023 12:40

99% of the time I’ve had great experiences, for both mine and dd’s clothes, and for the odd 1% I’ve just cut my losses tbh

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/05/2023 12:47

I've been lucky with all I've bought from Vinted but I stick to the brands I know fit well and study pictures well
I especially like it if the care/ composition label is pictured
I will ask a question about length of a top as sometimes I find it hard to tell( Long body, short legs!)
It's good for budgetary, environmental reasons and saves me pointlessly wandering around shops

No it's down-market eBay.

I think it's a Lithuanian company which has tried to do EBay on the cheap - so zero buyer protection.

DontTouchMyMug · 30/05/2023 12:51

It's roughly a million times better than eBay in my opinion. It's very user friendly for both buyer and seller. It's cheaper to use, easy to search, easy to communicate. Generally buyers and sellers are a nice crowd. Far more normal folk selling their own items for small amounts compared to eBay which is flooded by companies and Chinese imports.

Just use Shein. Cheap and pretty nice stuff 😊

Shein is nasty.

stick with vinted, it’s sustainable and you can pick up some great quality stuff cheaply - check the buyers reviews/ratings and don’t be afraid to ask for more detailed pics?
I have bought and sold with Vinted, much prefer it to eBay.

Blackbyrd · 30/05/2023 12:58

I have had dozens of only good experiences with Vinted as a buyer. Only go for new items tho. Something I always do is scrutinise the background as you can usually tell how clean and organised someone is from that

What an irresponsible thing to say.
Cheap clothes have a social and ecological cost. Read, educate yourself.... do better.

Cindy1802 · 30/05/2023 14:35

WhiskersPete · 29/05/2023 19:48

It's cheap because they use Chinese sweatshops...

This.

Vinted is the complete opposite in terms of trying to cut down on waste and not just buying low quality clothes that just add to landfill (for some people anyway!)

mamabear715 · 30/05/2023 14:39

Wow, @MidnightMeltdown I didn't know that.. :-0

Or use Vinted to buy better quality used clothing and help reduce waste rather than buy cheap Chinese sweatshop crap

It's easy to say 'do better' when you have the means to do so. OP has said that she is in financial difficulty and sellers on vinted keep letting her down, there comes a point where someone may have no other choice but to buy fast fashion. I was in primark the other day, kids t-shirts were £1.80, so cheaper than the cost of shipping on vinted. It makes sense that someone struggling will opt for those than take the risk on something 'better quality' on vinted. I don't know if it's just my area but charity shops are crap for kids clothing these days.

People who pass off dirty, damaged clothes are the ones who need to 'do better'. Maybe you need to 'educate yourself' about the struggles of others.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 30/05/2023 15:15

It doesn't bother me too much that I have to pay return postage because of a seller's mistake, fib or misrepresentation; by using Vinted I tend to get things much cheaper than eBay anyway, so it's still far more economical in the long run.

Wishawisha · 30/05/2023 15:17

Use it quite a lot and I’ve never had a problem.

It’s my favourite platform. I’ll never use eBay again.

Yes I agree with this. Whatever you search on eBay the majority of results are now just new stuff made in China. I’ve given up.

I disagree! I’ve just bought the most gorgeous & Other Stories silk blouse - good as new - for a fraction of the price it would have been new.

I have just bought a designer necklace worth thousands for just over £100 and I’m fully expecting it to be a complete scam 😂 but I couldn’t leave it there; the seller even sent me fresh pics of hallmarks and from my research it was well worth the risk. I’ve screen shotted all photos & info and will just return for a refund if it turns up and is cheap tat. I’ll actually fall over if it turns out to be genuine, but for £100 it was a risk I was fully willing to take 😅
