Buying on vinted

Keep wasting money. Buy something that is sold as very good condition and on receipt item is bobbled/ very well used/ faded. Also looks nothing like the picture. Going through a financially hard time and needed loads of new clothes so thought would be a good idea but wasted so much about half of items only fit for bin or charity shop. Plus by the time you add on all other fees not that cheap. AIBU to give up on vinted for good? Or have others had more luck on there.

I love it but I look at pics very studiously and zoom in. I check reviews too. I’ve had the odd thing not fit but only one faulty item which cost 1.50 anyway so 🤷🏻‍♀️
Got so many great items off there. Also sold a fair bit

thelinkisdead · 30/05/2023 08:16

It’s great for trainers I have found. I buy nearly new or new from there and wear them for work, whereas if I pay upwards of £100 for a pair, I’ll only wear them occasionally. I just got a great pair of Nike trainers for my son whose feet grow every time I look at them!

DontTouchMyMug · 30/05/2023 08:22

I've bought and sold lots.

I have over 250 5 star reviews because I sell really good quality stuff well-described. I only sell items I'd be happy to buy. Also don't overcharge. Check people's reviews thoroughly - the only times I've bought duds I've checked their reviews later and realised they have lots of cancelled transactions or rubbish reviews.

I go through wee spells of buying, if I get a few crap things in a row I'll give up for a while but I've had loads and loads of great things from there in perfect condition.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 30/05/2023 08:24

I buy loads from there and have only once had a problem. I raised a complaint and (eventually) got (most of) my money back. The sellers don't get paid if you raise an issue, so you should.

I agree with others about looking for good photos and a clear, reasonably detailed description. I also sort everything by "newly listed", so that I get the best prices for the best stuff. Because of the instant purchase aspect of Vinted, good things get snapped up quickly.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 30/05/2023 08:25

Also, as per a PP, check a seller's reviews.

Eek, be careful with "name" trainers in there... there are loads of new trainers in good makes, including Nike, where the sellers have no feedback. They're fakes!

gettingoldisshit · 30/05/2023 08:29

I buy the majority of my clothes on vinted! Ive only had one item I wasn't happy with and that was because I hadn't looked at the picture properly. Always check the pictures thoroughly and read the description, plus check the sellers feedback comments. I never buy anything with badly taken pictures or that hasn't been ironed and is badly creased because it shows a lack of care/ attention to detail from the seller!

Just use Shein. Cheap and pretty nice stuff 😊

Yeah don't do this

Eileen101 · 30/05/2023 08:46

I buy pretty much everything on vinted and sell my kids old clothes too. I wouldn't buy anything expensive though - my purchases are mountain warehouse type casual type clothes, or work dresses from places like M&S for a fraction of the cost new. For my kids, it can be a goldmine of frugi, JoJo or Boden for a few pounds.

I'm often shocked by the prices in actual shops these days, I'm so used to buying and selling on vinted! I was eyeing up a matching set of shorts and t shirts for my kids, but they were £18 per set in Tesco Shock

greennotepad · 30/05/2023 08:49

Don't use Shein, if you can afford not to. Horrible company.

I find there are two types of items being sold on Vinted- actually decent brands being sold off for cheaper than new ie a Never Fully Dressed dress with tags being sold for £30 rather than £95 new, or people selling off their 10 year old New Look vest tops (that were pretty crap quality in the first place) for a couple of quid. The latter are almost always going to be bobbly and faded, the same way any clothes you've had knocking about for 10 years will!

I personally use Vinted for the former, have never had any luck with the latter.

Me too. I’ve got nearly 250 5 star reviews because I only sell stuff in very good condition and am honest in descriptions. I send stuff straight away and keep up communication.

When purchasing I always check the item over as soon as k get it and click everything is ok asap. It drives he mad that buyers don’t bother and you have to wait for the money.

I always check reviews though recently have someone benefit of doubt and she never bothered sending item then got stroppy when I gave a negative review.

I absolutely LOVE Vinted. I buy pretty much all my clothes on there now!

I filter to BNWT/BNWOT/Very Good and I've only ever had one issue and was promptly refunded by Vinted

I also sell and only sell anything I'd be happy to buy myself, wash before listing and take clear photos, no problems so far

trampoline123 · 30/05/2023 09:00

It's so annoying when this happens then they say to return it if you're not happy then!!

The postage costs more to return than the items sometimes.

You could try selling on but with the correct description and good for mucky play or nursery. And be sure to leave a negative review.

Bellara · 30/05/2023 09:08

I'd had great experience on Vinted, until the last item which arrived totally not as described and in a grim state.
Was pretty cheesed off at Vinted's stance of sort it out yourself, and the nonsense that is "buyer protection fee".

Really interested to know how PP actually got their money back- presumably by sending their dodgy item back to the sender? At their own expense at worst and inconvenience at best?

Also, presumably if you leave bad feedback, the seller can do likewise to you?

Vinted is alright, it seems, until something goes wrong...

VanCleefArpels · 30/05/2023 09:09

I have only bought from Vinted in the past year or so and have sold stuff too.

Key is the filtering: by brand so you can be sure of sizing, by condition- only ever NWT/NWOT and for me by price (bearing in mind the £3-4 additional for postage etc). I also never buy as soon as I see something, just favourite it because many sellers will negotiate. I will offer items to potential purchasers at a lower price if they favourite my items.

Any duds I’ve got (v few, usually sizing issues) I just re-sell

I can’t see myself going back to normal shopping any time soon

Thesunnymood · 30/05/2023 09:09

I had BNWOT and even BNWT which I very strongly suspect was one wear thing.
Mainly because half came smelling very strongly of fabric softeners etc.
Some are good, some sellers are not. With added fees some things cost like in shop.

Lcb123 · 30/05/2023 09:09

I usually only buy new from Vinted, with or without tags. I’ve always had success, I do tend to buy quality brand like fat face, whistles, joules etc.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 30/05/2023 09:11

I've used it for years and out of the many transactions I've had only three times when something either didn't arrive or where the condition was not as described and Vinted sorted it and refunded all three times. The process is slow but they do check for fake reports but I would prefer that than eBays attitude towards sellers and buyers.

Wyndam · 30/05/2023 09:19

I have managed to get my money back a couple of times using the buyers guarantee. Two different sellers both times it was a candle and the glass had smashed who puts glass in a envelope expecting it to survive?

GimmeSleep · 30/05/2023 09:22

My bug bear is people listing as BNWT then in the description the say "only worn once"

Not blooming brand new then is it 🙃

DontTouchMyMug · 30/05/2023 09:34

My bug bear is people listing as BNWT then in the description the say "only worn once"

I HATE this too. I don't buy on principle even if I like it!

Also remember lots of sellers do discounts on multiple items if you add them to a bundle. That's a huge draw for me and I often buy a few extra bits if they are discounted. I think some buyers aren't aware of this feature.

IhearyouClemFandango · 30/05/2023 09:52

Yes. If something is like a cheap basic I won't normally buy unless there are other bits I also want from the seller.

Wantcattostoppeeing · 30/05/2023 10:43

I'm getting fed up too, I've just picked up my second smelly parcel in a row. I'm thinking of only buying brand new with tags before giving up completely as I have bought some lovely things, but recently I have recieved bobbled items that are supposedly brand new without tags, even a tesco item listed as Jojo!

Buyers should be refunded return postage if there is sufficient proof that the item is not as described eg the tesco sleepsuit, otherwise there isn't any point in paying for 'buyer protection'.

CleverLilViper · 30/05/2023 11:10

I love Vinted.

I’ve never had an issue with it and I’ve bought a ton of stuff from there. My entire holiday wardrobe came from there.

i just keep to items which have good pictures showing the front back and tag of the item. I also check the feedback of the sellers to make sure they’re not a scammer.
