To think new neighbour is a potential CF

^^
He woke us at 8.24 am moving his lawn. Is that normal?
AIBU to think that’s too early? We’re three terraced houses so you can’t escape some noise but 8.24 on a bank holiday!?

He’s been annoying since they moved in so i think I’m just annoyed at him.

I am with you OP.

I think anything before 9 am is inconsiderate.

I get up at 6 am from Mon-Fri and 8 am on Sunday.

On Saturdays or holidays when I can lie in, it is nice to not be disturbed. I will usually wake anyway about 7 or 8, but occasionally when it has been a busy week, I wake up at 9 am.

No lazy fuckery here. Why do some people judge others just because your life is different?

I laso have 2 teens who both are still fast asleep at 9 am. (but then the sound of a lawn mower wouldn't penetrate to be fair)

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 30/05/2023 20:44

We had hammering in a bouncy castle at 7.30am. TBH I am kind of always a bit reticent to worry too much about things as I appreciate that loving at close quarters and all being different people means we might all see things a little different, so I try and live and let live. 8.30 wouldn’t have bothered me and had been the case around here before… now if they did it at 6.30am-7.00am I might go and strangle them with lawnmower cord… but the bits you’ve said since makes him a total CF that thinks the world revolves around him and that means he will be type that won’t give a shiny shot what you say to him because he will always think he is right!

Very annoying
I have a habitual tyre burner and fire starter near me. Every bank holiday or sunny day

We have a local family who were burning tyres regularly ( why is that even a thing??!). A bunch of us on the street wrote to Environmental Health and they got a letter from them, that seemed to have done the trick.

Redbone · 30/05/2023 20:48

I think 8.30 am is not too early. Where I live we have had builders working opposite really loudly from 8am on Sunday and Bank Holiday.

Ap42 · 30/05/2023 20:57

Defiantly inconsiderate, I don't allow my children in the garden before 9am at the weekends, so I would expect my neighbours to be similarly considerate.
However not everyone is a considerate neighbour.

Truestorypeeps · 30/05/2023 20:58

I wouldn't cut the grass before 10am or after 7pm. Maybe that's just me being overly considerate? Surely not a bad thing!

Lacoeur · 30/05/2023 21:02

I personally think it’s too early to be mowing the lawn on a bank holiday, as it’s not really considerate of others. If it was a school morning however I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

powerrangers · 30/05/2023 21:19

How did the car park conversation end?

CatLandlady · 30/05/2023 21:23

Bloody hell, I can’t believe how many people think that it’s not unreasonable to mow the lawn at 8:24am! Really?! I have young DC so am awake/up ages before then but 8:24am on a bank holiday…? No way.

Jem123456789 · 30/05/2023 21:32

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all. I wouldn’t do anything like that until at least 10am - some people like a lie in when not working after all. People are just inconsiderate.

Manthide · 30/05/2023 21:33

My brother's neighbour is obviously trying to use cheap night rate electricity and likes to do his hoovering around 3am. He lives in a terrace house with very thin walls.

Someone once posted about throwing oxo cubes onto a lawn in the rain. Apparently the dogs will dig holes trying to get to the meat. A destroyed front garden might stop him leaving the dog tied up there?

But 8 am for mowing lawns, although annoying is not unreasonable. If he kept on doing it at that time I'd reciprocate with other noise they would find less pleasant though....

OXO cubes, ingenious, might stop my husband from letting the dogs in the garden to poop, when I have a designated area, much easier for me to clean up. Adding them to my shopping soon 😂😂

KaleSpinachAndGreens · 30/05/2023 21:38

A relative used to get up early, about 7.30 and mow his lawn, before work, he did work very long hours, and weekends so I guess he thought it reasonable. He got a letter from the council ( non council house) saying there had been a complaint .
Hes a lovely guy, so stopped doing it straight away.

Moveoverdarlin · 30/05/2023 21:40

8.30am isn’t that early. It wouldn’t bother me.

Solonge · 30/05/2023 21:45

FloofCloud · 29/05/2023 09:56

Get ear plugs, most people are up by that sort of time and if not you need to prep to deal with life noises I'm afraid

Lots of people like a lie in Sundays and Bank Holidays. Selfish of anyone making noise that early.

Beepbeepenergy · 30/05/2023 21:47

7am neighbour had gardener round once 🥺 woke me and my little one with a right shock as it was summer and we slept with the window open

SecretSwirrel · 30/05/2023 21:50

No one should be mowing anything before AT LEAST 9am. Anyone else is just totally inconsiderate.

Very annoying

I thought it was illegal to burn certain types of waste, rubber being one of them

Showdogworkingdog · 30/05/2023 22:06

830am lawnmower noise wouldn’t bother me. Sometimes there’s a list of stuff to get done on a bh and you just have to power through it.
My neighbour is a dickhead. He can’t sit in his garden without playing his music loudly. I was lying on my garden swing in the sunshine Saturday afternoon, reading my kindle and minding my business. A lawn was being mown somewhere, some kids screeching at each other from some distance away and Mr Dickhead started playing Champagne Supernova obnoxiously loud. I was at the bottom of the garden so probably about 50 metres away but I could hear every single word. That really pissed me off, the other noises are fine, just unavoidable background noise, but the deliberate selfishness of making everyone else listen to your music is just rude.
The minute I win the lottery, I’m moving to somewhere with no neighbours.

Reugny · 30/05/2023 22:13

Solonge · 30/05/2023 21:45

Please come around and shut up my DD then. (Oh and her friends who she makes noise with at nursery and are equally as loud.)

Mowing the lawn at 8.30am isn't early.

Barking dog and the car stuff are bigger problems that the OP needs to get sorted out.

BittenontheBum · 30/05/2023 22:14

@MargaretThursday I really don't find the sound of a push mower easier on the ear at all. In fact my bloody neighbour drives me up the wall with theirs 🙄
But I have very recently discovered I'm an extremely grumpy old bitch (GOB) so that may have something to do with it 🤔 🤣🤣

@BittenontheBum
It doesn't carry as far though.

But if I tell my df that he'll probably use scissors instead, so, as he's not as young as he was, I think I'll avoid telling him. Otherwise the neighbours might be required to help him get back off the floor when he's finished cutting the grass with scissors (and probably a ruler) 🤣🤣🤣

Macinae · 30/05/2023 22:18

I think making outdoor noise before 9 on a sunday/bank Holiday is a bit inconsiderate. We don't all have young children or are up with the larks!

SunshineCrescent · 30/05/2023 22:24

No No No, Not till 9AM For me

Yourcatisnotsorry · 30/05/2023 22:28

I think 8.30 is too early especially so on a bank holiday!
