To think new neighbour is a potential CF

^^
He woke us at 8.24 am moving his lawn. Is that normal?
AIBU to think that’s too early? We’re three terraced houses so you can’t escape some noise but 8.24 on a bank holiday!?

He’s been annoying since they moved in so i think I’m just annoyed at him.

Not RTFT but all the CFs in other threads have been people who take advantage of others/exploit them, not just inconsiderate. This neighbour isn't doing that.
YABU.

HecticHedgehog · 29/05/2023 11:40

Unreasonable on a weekend/bank holiday. 9am earliest.

Thesunnymood · 29/05/2023 11:40

Badgeringabout · 29/05/2023 11:36

You must get ready much quicker than me in the morning I guess. 😀Even so, I do not consider 8.30am to be early at all.

I am from place where school and office hours start at 8. That was when I needed before 7am wake up.
Half an hour travel, half an hour get ready, 15 min contingency.

Not a morning person.

LemonjeIIo · 29/05/2023 09:41

Very annoying
I have a habitual tyre burner and fire starter near me. Every bank holiday or sunny day

You cant compare 8.30 lawn mowing with someone burning tyres.... surely!?

Impressive. It takes me half an hour alone to get showered and dry hair. Also not a morning person really.

Only on MN! 😂

Dontlookow · 29/05/2023 11:46

Lets face it, SO, SO many selfish people.

Even if I was a regular 6 a.m. riser I wouldn't inflict machine noise on my neighbour on a Bank Holiday at 8.30 a.m. Its simply called consideration for others.

Keeping an aggressive dog - another sign. Tying the dog up all day outside - yet another sign. I'd ring the RSPCA.

Matildahoney · 29/05/2023 11:49

I'm still in the exhausted sleeping hundreds of hours in early pregnancy stage and didn't wake up until 9, so it would have pissed me off!
I do think before 9 is unreasonable though!

PercyPigInAWig · 29/05/2023 11:50

I can't believe how many people think that's okay.
Yes I have DC, they wouldn't usually be up at that time on a non school day.
I think 9:30 is more reasonable but after 10 is better.

The bins at midnight is very antisocial, as is getting up very early to noisily put bins out as I have told DH. Get them out by 9:30pm.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/05/2023 11:51

@PercyPigInAWig did you see my post above? Our bins were collected at 6.15 this morning. No lie in for our road!

billy1966 · 29/05/2023 11:54

Far too early.

He's a CF, so be well ready.

Get a video bell back and front to record the dog.

The barking would bug me, as would the bins.

No self awareness.

Be ready for him going forward!

Crunchymum · 29/05/2023 11:55

Wouldn't bother me (young kids) but I wouldn't do it myself as I know not everyone is up as early as we are.

Sounds like the mowing could be the least of your worries though. 😟

Ivyiris · 29/05/2023 11:59

Tbh he's probably wanting to get it done before it's too hot

SamW98 · 29/05/2023 12:00

I think he’s very selfish yes. Weekends and bank holidays, anything before 9 is too early imo.

It seems a case of well I’m awake so everyone else should be. Many people use weekends and bank holidays did a much needed lie in and others may have been out so not got to bed til the early hours.

Im a night owl not a morning person at all so getting woken up before I’m ready would make me grumpy the rest of the day

NoraBattysCurlers · 29/05/2023 12:01

I think it is mildly inconsiderate. 8:00 or 8.30 is a bit early to mow the lawn on a Bank Holiday monday.

Anytime after 9:00 would be okay.

So agree.

My husband wouldn't dream of cutting the grass on a sunday for a similar reason, not mind early morning.

Thankfully we largely live among similar ilk!

I agree. I wfh and start at 9.30 so I don’t even wake up til 9 on a weekday let alone weekends

That's why I shower in the evening as wind down routine to go sparkly clean to bed 😁
All these years in UK I still didn't get used to morning showers instead of evening so I just ended up sticking with mine.

HollaHolla · 29/05/2023 12:06

Anything after 08:00 is ok I guess. I live in a flat, and there's people regularly out in our shared gardens at that time - and builders, etc. will start at 08:00.

The other issues about him wanting to appropriate your parking space, and the lack of care/management for his dog are more of an issue.
It should be very clear on your deeds, etc. about the car parking, so that should be simple.
Have you spoken to him about the dog? He needs to look after it better, by the sounds of it.

Hope you feel better soon

Tinybrother · 29/05/2023 12:07

EbonyRaven · 29/05/2023 11:37

By that token, it's OK for people to sit in the garden at midnight when you are sleeping, (playing music in their garden, and chatting and laughing...) After all, why should YOU dictate what is a reasonable time for them to socialise?

Your attitude stinks to high Heaven! Glad you're not my neighbour!

eh? Don’t be silly. I was responding to someone who decided that 8.30am is sufficient lie in for everyone in the world, when you only have to think for about twenty seconds to realise that that’s not going to be true. How have you extrapolated that to me being ok with late night noise (I’m not)?

Thesunnymood · 29/05/2023 12:08

builders, etc. will start at 08:00.

If they are doing noisy work they absol shouldn't on BH.

gogohmm · 29/05/2023 12:09

Anything before 10am in inconsiderate on a weekend/bank holiday. Especially in summer when bedroom windows are open. Not everyone is an early riser

Clementinesucks · 29/05/2023 12:09

Our neighbours noisily throw all their wine bottles into the outdoor bins every morning at about 5:30. This is not ok. 8:30 is fine.

HollaHolla · 29/05/2023 12:10

Oh, and we're working today, as although it's a bank holiday, it's not a public holiday in Scotland. So, I was up at 06:00, and on my usual train at 07:20. It seems busy around my office too, so seems like a lot of people are working as usual.

I am also a lie in, non morning person, so I would also be asleep... Although I'm a very heavy sleeper, so probably wouldn't be woken by a lawnmower. 😀

I am curious whether that is when they finish their day or start their day🤣
