To think new neighbour is a potential CF

^^
He woke us at 8.24 am moving his lawn. Is that normal?
AIBU to think that’s too early? We’re three terraced houses so you can’t escape some noise but 8.24 on a bank holiday!?

He’s been annoying since they moved in so i think I’m just annoyed at him.

OP posts:

I’m an early riser, 5am sometimes. Yes it’s very inconsiderate.

Your neighbour has already shown he’s inconsiderate in other ways though so this is just one more thing.

Boomboom22 · 29/05/2023 14:13

Anything before 10am won't be great for me. I can't focus in the mornings and hate noise. Evenings I don't care 🤣

Boomboom22 · 29/05/2023 14:15

Although my husband often does loads of garden work from 7am, I stay in bed at the front of the house so can't hear it. He wouldn't dare do the front hedges if I was I bed though unless it was 11 or something.

Stripedbag101 · 29/05/2023 15:40

I am lying in My beautiful back garden listening to an industrial strimmer next door that has been going now for nearly two hours (I think that’s what it is!!)

I can’t complain - I just finished a six month building project so I imagine my neighbours are taking some joy in disturbing my peace!! So I am taking it gracefully!

SinnerBoy · 29/05/2023 15:45

The OXO cube is a new one one, but I've seen someone claim to have waited for a CF neighbour to go away, the used a snapped broomshank to poke holes in the lawn, then push frozen sausages in.

Not that I'm advocating that, of course.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 29/05/2023 15:51

YABU. Local council was cutting grass here from 8am. If they can do it then I don't see why nobody else can.

thisthenthat · 29/05/2023 16:31

Before 9am is not ok, it's inconsiderate to those who want a lie in. I'm up at 7am regardless of the day, and this rule actually hinders me, but I wouldn't dream of waking someone up on a day off!

BaiesRosesAmbre · 29/05/2023 17:20

The ‘it would be fine for me, I wake up at 3am’ answers 🙄

OP I agree. It’s a bank holiday. Before 9am should be a no no. Ideally, it wouldn’t start before 10am!

Even if you aren’t sleeping, it’s nice just to have a bit of peace to read your book or have a quiet cuppa etc.

Chloeobrien · 30/05/2023 19:03

Not before 9am on a weekday and on weekends and bank holidays not before 10am, he’s very inconsiderate!

fetchacloth · 30/05/2023 19:06

Any time after 8am is reasonable really

Hmm1234 · 30/05/2023 19:13

It depends what if his baby woke up at 5am then it’s not really the start of the day for him is it. Normal for 8:30 on a rare sunny morning lol

Chickpea17 · 30/05/2023 19:14

Anything after 8am is ok

EarringsandLipstick · 30/05/2023 19:21

BH - 9 - 930 should be the earliest for lawnmowing or anything noisy.

Normal weekdays - 8 onwards is fine.

asdfgasdfg · 30/05/2023 19:27

My cut off times at weekends/Bank holiday are start 10am finish by 5pm. Weekdays I mow/strim/DIY whenever I feel like it during daylight

Alinino124 · 30/05/2023 19:35

You would if you worked night shifts. No consideration for other people.

MsStyles · 30/05/2023 19:36

I don’t think that’s acceptable. We always used to have a 9am/9pm curfew when it came to noisy things like drilling, mowing etc although my neighbour who also doesn’t work so can do it anytime, keeps drilling etc at 7am the last couple of weekends. Very annoying when he knows I work all week and like a lie in.

KatieB55 · 30/05/2023 19:42

Too early!

cavalier · 30/05/2023 19:43

Too early for sure ! Bank holiday is for a peaceful morning whether a lay in or not in my humble opinion

myfaceismyown · 30/05/2023 19:53

Sigmama · 29/05/2023 10:01

Massively unreasonable, aren't people allowed to enjoy their bank holidays any more

Apparently not. Our neighbours play their 1980s music blaringly loud on Sundays and bank holiday from 8 am, mow, strim, etc. Plus they have a ring doorbell so you can hear her raucous voice telling their multiple Amazon delivery drivers and almost daily take away deliveries to leave things behind the blue bin - we can hear it in our dining room quite clearly, and we are detached with a driveway between us!

PercyMcPigface · 30/05/2023 19:59

It's shit. The same way it would be shit to let your kids run around being noisy at that time, or to operate power tools at that time. Yes of course you can do it, but if you choose to live in an area with other people then it's really
Inconsiderate.

3AndStopping · 30/05/2023 20:09

Too early I agree. Though we’re up from 6am most days I don’t let my kids in the garden till 9am because our adjoining neighbour is a single middle aged lady who might be having a lie in. DH argues 10 would be better but I think that’s a bit much!

Northernladdette · 30/05/2023 20:24

We wouldn’t dream of making any noise in our garden before 10am out of consideration for our neighbours.
YANBU 😊

To us (as almost pensioners) that's still yesterday! We fume every single morning that we get woken up, but then the kids upstairs go to school and miraculously it's silent again. However if it was garden related noise their lives could definitely be at risk. Fuming AND incandescent with rage just thinking about it.

However our neighbours are absolutely lovely, and no doubt we piss them off being up watching Breaking Bad till 3 am, so it's swings and roundabouts really :)

godmum56 · 30/05/2023 20:34

Doggymummar · 29/05/2023 10:14

Our local council website has 8am to 8pm Saturday 10am till 1pm on SUNDAY and no activity permitted on a bank holiday. My ndn who is in his 80s was mowing at 8, but to be fair I was up since 6 so it didn't bother me. Another was angle grinding before 9. I'm in the conservatory so I can hear it all. We stick to the rules, it's easier to be sanctimonious that way!

wow where on earth do you live?

masterblaster · 30/05/2023 20:38

Is he using heavy machinery to move it, or one of those hover things like they used in the World Cup in Sapporo?
