^^
He woke us at 8.24 am moving his lawn. Is that normal?
AIBU to think that’s too early? We’re three terraced houses so you can’t escape some noise but 8.24 on a bank holiday!?

He’s been annoying since they moved in so i think I’m just annoyed at him.

I wouldn't mow the lawn before 9am and even then I'd probably wait until 10... Wouldn't m bother me if someone else did though. Quite often our neighbours gardeners arrive at 8 to cut their lawn.

Zippedydoo123 · 29/05/2023 11:08

I think 9am is fine at a weekend and on a Bank Holiday. Lawn mowing DIY building work children playing in their own garden the lot.

NetZeroZealot · 29/05/2023 11:08

I remonstrated with someone once for walking their very yappy dog outside my bedroom window at 5.30 am on a bank holiday.

After 8 would have been fine.

I'm surprised the lawn was dry enough to mow at that time in the morning though.

Panama2 · 29/05/2023 11:11

What did you say when he said you will need to move your car?

2chocolateoranges · 29/05/2023 11:17

Some people think of others whereas some people just think of themselves.

id never dream of cutting the grass or making noise outside before 10am, some of our neighbours couldn’t care less, one was hammering at 8.12 am yesterday.

we were all still in bed until 10.30 am. Dd worked long hours yesterday, I work full time and have today off , dh is off work after being in an accident and has turned night into day and ds is just a lazy bugger! 😂

In case someone says something against men??

What?

Allwelcone · 29/05/2023 11:18

YANBU. Even if according to MN you're "lazy" for not being up at 6am, he is being inconsiderate imo.
On the plus side he's probably feeling the MN neg vibes on him right now and his milk in his cuppa is curdling.

8:30 on BH is not a lie in for most people I know.

Well surely it's a two hour lie in for people who work?

Badgeringabout · 29/05/2023 11:21

As in work full time days (I realise that not everyone does do days).

TheDogsGoneMad · 29/05/2023 11:21

Panama2 · 29/05/2023 11:11

What did you say when he said you will need to move your car?

He said it to DH who was a bit shocked I think- he just replied that they’re our parking spaces.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/05/2023 11:23

I think it's too early. I wouldn't mow the lawn or do DIY until after 9am on a BH or Sunday.

However, it's bin day here and the sodding bin lorry came along at 6.15am, waking the whole neighbourhood so everyone was awake.

Badgeringabout · 29/05/2023 11:19

Why are people in UK acting like the office hours start at 8?😶

Well surely it's obvious that everyone wakes up at 6:30. Most people I also go to bed later before lie in. So to get actual extra sleep they sleep until later.

EbonyRaven · 29/05/2023 11:25

Yes that is too early on a bank holiday, and I can't believe so many people disagree with you. I would be playing rave music at 4am in the early hours of tomorrow if I were you. I mean 4am is a normal time for rave music after all.

First bank holiday of this year, (Easter,) our fucking neighbour decided to crank up his fucking massive petrol lawnmower at 7.55am. 'Before it got hot.' Coz it's always fucking stifling the first week in April. Hmm

Thesunnymood · 29/05/2023 11:25

*That not everyone

Soz

I start work at 8.30am (teacher) so need to be out of bed by 6.30am to get showered etc. I thought that this was pretty standard tbh.

HelpMeGetThrough · 29/05/2023 10:21

Only on here would you read about a "Bank Holiday lawn mower".

@HelpMeGetThrough

If you're trying to imply that's very middle class, df isn't. He's from a very much working class background and his df had the same opinions.

Df finds the power mower much easier, but feels strongly that people shouldn't disturb others on those days. However he's very proud of his lawn and nothing will stand in the way of him looking after it.

The hand mower was one of the first tools he brought himself when he got his first place. It's kept in perfect condition and probably would be loved by a museum.

primoseyellow · 29/05/2023 11:30

@LemonjeIIo 😂 My neighbour burned their sofa once, right down to the metal frame.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 29/05/2023 11:30

9am would be the absolute earliest for me at the weekend or bank holiday. And, most councils in England have noise rules to do with construction. Our council is no construction noise on Bank Holidays.

Lightsgoingout · 29/05/2023 11:33

Before 9am is too early in my book and I have young kids. 8-9 is boardline

Before kids I wouldn’t have got up before 9am so I always thinking back to those days

It depends.
If I start 8:30 I get up about 7:15. If at 9, get up at 7:45.
That's when I don't WFH.

I’m someone who enjoys getting up at 6am and I don’t feel like I should dictate how long an acceptable lie in is to other people.

You must get ready much quicker than me in the morning I guess. 😀Even so, I do not consider 8.30am to be early at all.

I don't recall mentioning the word 'acceptable' - just that it would be a lie in.

blahblahblah1654 · 29/05/2023 11:37

It's not that early. Living in close proximity to others means different lifestyles, but you can't expect people to tiptoe around until late morning. Personally I try and sleep until after that but I wouldn't expect the rest of the street to wait

EbonyRaven · 29/05/2023 11:37

By that token, it's OK for people to sit in the garden at midnight when you are sleeping, (playing music in their garden, and chatting and laughing...) After all, why should YOU dictate what is a reasonable time for them to socialise?

Your attitude stinks to high Heaven! Glad you're not my neighbour!
