^^
He woke us at 8.24 am moving his lawn. Is that normal?
AIBU to think that’s too early? We’re three terraced houses so you can’t escape some noise but 8.24 on a bank holiday!?

He’s been annoying since they moved in so i think I’m just annoyed at him.

OP posts:

8.30am is totally fine. YABU
Also all the comments saying "they don't work/work from home. Why can't they do it another time etc" - how on earth do you know the demands other people have on their time? I work from home. The operative word being work - my working day is tied up the same way as everyone else's.

Nanny0gg · 29/05/2023 10:16

I think 9am on a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

8.30 on a Saturday.

Our local council website has 8am to 8pm Saturday 10am till 1pm on SUNDAY and no activity permitted on a bank holiday. My ndn who is in his 80s was mowing at 8, but to be fair I was up since 6 so it didn't bother me. Another was angle grinding before 9. I'm in the conservatory so I can hear it all. We stick to the rules, it's easier to be sanctimonious that way!

Your council dictate how people spend their bank holiday? How bizarre!

Henowner · 29/05/2023 10:17

Too early for me, I would wait until at least 9.30 before I hoover or mow. Perhaps us peace seekers should move to Germany 🤫

The commonly agreed upon quiet hours in Germany (Ruhezeit time period) are from 10pm and 6 or 7am on weekdays and the entire day on Sundays, although there can be some exceptions in different cities or if your landlord imposes other rules as well. Ruhezeit also applies to all public holidays for the entire day.

Alami · 29/05/2023 10:18

For all you early birds, it’s UTTERLY INCONSIDERATE to mow your bloody lawn at 8.30.

MargaretThursday · 29/05/2023 10:13

Df has a hand push lawnmower that he uses for bank holidays and Sundays. It's much quieter, but more work. Maybe he could get one of those.

Only on here would you read about a "Bank Holiday lawn mower".

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2023 10:22

The 8am lawn mowing wouldn't bother me.

But yes - he clearly is a twat and you have every right to be annoyed with him in general.

I'm actually Shock that he thinks his partner can have your parking space just because she's getting a car.

Feraldogmum · 29/05/2023 10:22

Yes 8.24 is too early, I think out of courtesy 9am or later. We have a neighbour that uses power tools any time after 6am and he has the cheek to remark that my dog barks. Stop the bloody noisy dawn diy and you won’t set my dog off mate, difference is that I hush my dog up whilst he continues to wake the neighbours.I’m up at 6 but like my cuppa in peace.😬

Your shouty capitals don't make your opinion more valid

mainsfed · 29/05/2023 10:22

has decided we’ll have to move our car when his wife/girlfriend gets hers (car is parked in our own space)

Tell us more about this. Always lead with the parking issue, they are much more exciting than lawn mowing issues.

TeaParty4Me · 29/05/2023 10:25

YANBU

Doing noisy activities before 10am on a Sunday or bank holiday is inconsiderate.

Some people think just because they’re up, everyone else should be too.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes clearly OP missed the memo about the excitement of parking threads .

Oh and OP - they also must be accompanied by a diagram!

Mikimoto · 29/05/2023 10:25

Apart from lawn mowing being quite a pleasant sound, who's going to still be sleeping at 0824h?!
A rando teenager who'll be wearing headphones anyway?

Justcallmebebes · 29/05/2023 10:26

It is inconsiderate and I think you should wait until after 9am to do noisy garden work. Its an unwritten rule in my neighbourhood which everyone adheres to, thankfully

Yes, OP, you’ll win us over with an illustrated parking thread!

Oh don’t be silly, loads of adults are still asleep at that time!

LadyLapsang · 29/05/2023 10:28

Mowing the lawn at 8.30 wouldn’t bother me at all. This morning neighbours have been going out for runs, dog walks, chats from about 7.30 on.

I'd imagine it's some poxy little village council imposing rules like that, that are uneforceable.

chaosmaker · 29/05/2023 10:30

I hate other people's noise but a lot more when it's before 9am. Mowing is annoying, what is the worst that can happen with letting the grass grow a bit?

Bargellobitch · 29/05/2023 10:30

I think it's selfish and early. I don't really think the behaviour is a cheeky fucker behaviour though. The only thing from your list of say is cf is the expectation of moving the car. The other things are just annoying but not what a cf is in my view.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/05/2023 10:31

@Mikimoto people that were working Sunday late shift!

luckylavender · 29/05/2023 10:31

I don't think it's too early. And the world has changed. Not everyone has Bank Holidays or works 8-5 Monday to Friday.

Everyone in my house is still sleeping and only one is a teenager Grin
DH wouldn’t even be awake at that time on a weekday, never mind a bank holiday.

FrostyFifi · 29/05/2023 10:35

CF would be if he woke you up to borrow your lawnmower. This wouldn't bother me.

Rainbowshit · 29/05/2023 10:36

Way too early for a bank holiday or weekend.
