Any criticism of the current government is met with whatboutery instead of the topic at hand.
In 2019 my friend and I discussed politics a lot. She's always supported Tory. I've always been swing. I said I'd never voted Tory and actually really hadn't ever considered it because I work in education and I know what they do to that.
But .... I didn't align in any way with Corbyn and despite voting LD the GE before didn't align with their stance at that point on Brexit.
I was a remainer. Ironically like Johnson initially was!
We talked for hours. She gave her views on how he'd get brexit done and I was for getting done what we had voted for - even if I didn't agree with it - done. Because that's democracy.
I really wasn't sure right up until election day what I was going to do. But I don't agree with spoiling so it's not a choice I personally make.
Recently we had another of our nice long lunches and chats and she actually said "I bet you regret the day you ever listened to me persuading you to vote Tory this time"
This is the same friend who was a lawyer for the CPS and moved to a different department under Braverman because of Bravermans unreasonable demands to find guilt to get to CPS where no evidence existed - to meet Bravermans political aims.
But yet - when any of us discuss the current government and the shite show it is the only argument we get back is "but Sir Beer" "but Corbyn" "it's because you're a Labour supporter" and such rubbish.
It's says far more about the current Tory party that their own loyal supporters can't say "but they have done x y and z" or "they've delivered X y and z" than it does about the people criticising them with actual facts and figures.
Personally I'd rather we had a competent Tory party who I couldn't slate despite not being a natural Tory myself and properly run and prosperous country to reside in.
