I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

And the Tory "most reasonable people" line has finally made an appearance

Specifically worded in response to Alexandra2001's "any reasonable person" tagline.

I don't care how or why it appeared.

I just personally find it amusing that during so many speeches by Tory's they chuck in the word reasonable!

Even when they've missed an opportunity to insert in contextually the insert of anywhere in a sentence as it appears to be their tagline.

Although I do miss the days of their 3 word slogans. I found posters guesses about the next 3 highly amusing. Some very witty and clever MNers around.

Youdon’t have to refer to him as scum, it’s still pretty incomprehensible that you’d feel inclined to defend him to someone who might choose to

I haven't defended his actions at all - I've stated I wouldn't describe him as 'scum' - and certainly not on social media. Would you describe every man who watched porn at work 'scum'?

Roussette · 26/05/2023 20:39

I actually felt a bit sorry for him. Having seen his 'exit' interview. He will be forever tainted with this. And maybe he was a half decent MP for his constituency.

However how can someone like him be so so stupid? You are in this privileged position that some would give anything for, and you do this? I just don't get it.

Ditto Braverman.

jgw1 · 26/05/2023 20:40

I do think it is notable that some posters are more fixated on the use of language by Angela Rayner, than the action of Johnson, Parish or Pincher or indeed to keep it topical Braverman.

Similar isn’t the same

More accurate than "differed wildly".

Cornettoninja · 26/05/2023 20:42

I didn’t say you’d defended his actions,I’m saying you’re defending him from being called scum.

Would you describe every man who watched porn at work 'scum'?

odd question but I wouldn’t have an issue with anyone else calling every man who watches porn at work scum. I probably wouldn’t but that’s because I’d be more likely to call them a greasy perverts. 🤷‍♀️

I work in education for vulnerable students.

If I heard any of our male colleagues watched prom in the workplace "scum" would be the least of their issues about what I called them!!!!!

It's one of those times that what people find acceptable differs wildly.

Scum and vile are common descriptors around where I live. Just because I don't use the, daily like many doesn't mean I don't understand why they'd use them or accept they do 🤷‍♀️

Your post was ambiguous;
it’s still pretty incomprehensible that you’d feel inclined to defend him to someone who might choose to

Why would it be incomprehensible? I don't use language like that myself - I don't agree with people who do.

odd question

It's not an odd question in the context of the thread and the theme of people being treated the same.

Vile is a description I might use myself. Angela Rayner was pressed to apologise for saying 'scum' - 'vile' doesn't have the emphasis.

Clavinova · 26/05/2023 21:06

'vile' doesn't have the same emphasis.

Braverman is certainly vile. Whether she should be called scum is I would suggest a rather pointless semantic debate.

People can argue all they want but the rules were the rules and the judgments were made based on those

That didn't stop Keir Starmer's former colleague and friend from sending a 255-page dossier to Durham Police because he wasn't happy with their decision on Dominic Cummings;
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/feb/05/dominic-cummings-durham-police-reject-dossier-of-evidence-on-lockdown-journeys

Not forgetting North Durham MP Kevan Jones, who attended this party in May 2020 with the Labour Mayor and at least one police officer;

This is why we need Suella Braverman KC as Home Secretary. Someone who doesn't understand the law, someone who doesn't listen to advice and someone who most of all doesn't care abotu people. She will soon make sure all these wrong sort of criminals are bang to rights.

Blossomtoes · 26/05/2023 21:52

For the love of God Clav try and do better than “Yeah but Labour”. They haven’t been in power for 13 years, maybe we should be focusing on the actual government.

But -Jeremy Corbyn-- if we had not posted incessantly about Labour on this thread it would have concluded after about 7 posts with everyone in agreement that Braverman is vile.

Hopefully without too much intervention from Starmer, defending 'vile' people;

Fabian Henry, 40, was imprisoned for attacking a 17-year-old girl twice and for abducting and having sex with a 15-year-old. He was supposed to be deported to Jamaica along with 41 other people but their removal was opposed by Starmer and other politicians.

Luckily Braverman would have had them all sent to Rwanda years ago if it wasn't for blobs like Sunak and the law getting in the way.

I don’t know what kind of shenanigans go on at your place of work but you’ve just presented it as something within the realms of normal. It’s really, really not.
