Feel this way about the death of Andy Rourke of The Smiths. They are one of my favourite bands of all time and just listening to them now. He was such a talented musician, he's the same age as my father, and I feel sad knowing he had such a cruel disease.

George Michael.

donkey86 · 22/05/2023 09:53

Scott Hutchinson from Frightened Rabbit. Especially because of the way he went.

abstractplantpot · 22/05/2023 09:54

@MapoTofuLettuce I came to say George Michael too. I was ridiculously affected by his passing.

Esjolaol · 22/05/2023 09:55

George Michael ...so sad 😔

Jeannieofthelamp · 22/05/2023 09:55

Paul Hunter, I had a teenage crush on him at the time and I remember my disbelief.

Bishybarnacle · 22/05/2023 09:56

George Michael 😥

beguilingeyes · 22/05/2023 10:04

Freddie Mercury was the first big one. I was a massive Queen fan in my youth. They were the first band I ever saw.

Puppylucky · 22/05/2023 10:05

Bowie for all the obvious reasons

Maggiesgirl · 22/05/2023 10:05

Heath Ledger, was so shocked.

SquashPenguin · 22/05/2023 10:05

George Michael and Robin Williams.

Mapricot · 22/05/2023 10:06

Willmafrockfit · 22/05/2023 10:07

Alan Rickman
George Michael
David Bowie
The Queen
Paul O'Grady
Victoria Wood

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/05/2023 10:07

Terry Pratchett. Such a brilliant writer and he not only died much too soon but in the last years of his life he had Alzheimer's and lost his incredible way with words. So cruel.

Willmafrockfit · 22/05/2023 10:07

oh Heath Ledger Sad

Theroad · 22/05/2023 10:10

Robin Williams and Patrick Swayze. I found both incredibly sad. Because they died young(ish), but also because their films played such a big part of my childhood and it reminds me of family members who have also died since. It's like mourning a part of your past.

Worldgonecrazy · 22/05/2023 10:12

Ayrton Senna.

FlipFlops4Me · 22/05/2023 10:12

Leonard Cohen - I cried and knew an enormous talent was gone. I'm 66 and I've been listening to Cohen since I was 14 - had all his stuff in every format of the time - record, cassette tape, CD, streaming. Still think he's a wonderful poet.

JuneShitfield · 22/05/2023 10:12

Yeah. George Michael here too. Also Victoria Wood, Marti Caine, David Bowie.

And actually Martin Amis has hit me quite hard too. I had a lot of time for London Fields and The Information as a rebellious, chain-smoking teenager.

HabitatRat · 22/05/2023 10:13

Alan Rickman 😭

defi · 22/05/2023 10:14

Robin Williams, all his films bring tears to my eyes. He brought so much happiness into the world

Thetowelsareallwrong · 22/05/2023 10:15

David Bowie, completely blind sided me, I sobbed really sobbed. Couldn't concentrate on anything, came completely out of the blue. He was such an icon, a beautiful man, even still, the way I reacted was bizarre and I had no control over it.

JulieHoney · 22/05/2023 10:15

Douglas Adams, Jim Henson, Carrie Fisher, Alan Rickman, Heath Ledger, George Harrison.

And not a “celebrity” but more than anyone, Jo Cox.

Tessisme · 22/05/2023 10:15

I couldn't get the death of Freddie Mercury out of my mind for ages. I'm not one for getting overly emotional about the deaths of people I don't know personally, but his death affected me to a surprising degree. He was an amazing talent.

Stickykidney · 22/05/2023 10:16

@donkey86 me too. Cannot believe that that's 5 years now. Heard FR on the radio the other night it feels raw still.

Mutabiliss · 22/05/2023 10:17

Terry Pratchett, I had to leave work early because I couldn't stop crying. So daft, but it was such a waste of a brilliant mind. I still can't bring myself to read the last book.
