Feel this way about the death of Andy Rourke of The Smiths. They are one of my favourite bands of all time and just listening to them now. He was such a talented musician, he's the same age as my father, and I feel sad knowing he had such a cruel disease.

Seamus Healey. From about 17, I read each volume of his as they came out. I felt like I'd lost an old companion.

Paul o Grady bring the most recent one.
Robin Williams
Naya Rivera (wasn’t familiar with her work, but the circumstances with her little boy being found alone on the boat were just so sad)
Mac Miller
Lil Peep

And although not necessarily ‘celebrities’ at their time of death, Nicki graham and lil Chris as they were both so young and related to mental illness which hits home for me.

The Queen. I know it's odd but I think things have felt a bit weird since she died, like nobody is 'in charge.' Charles is absolutely not the same.

I know what you mean.
Things seem a bit unstable

JorisBonson · 22/05/2023 11:18

Terry Hall. Far too young and such a troubled and brilliant life.

TanukiMario · 22/05/2023 11:21

Heath ledger and Avicii. Too young!

Robin Williams and Patrick Swayze. I found both incredibly sad. Because they died young(ish), but also because their films played such a big part of my childhood and it reminds me of family members who have also died since. It's like mourning a part of your past.

This. Exactly. Such a big part of my childhood. I was particularly affected by Robin Williams.

REP22 · 22/05/2023 11:24

Kirsty MacColl.

BadNomad · 22/05/2023 11:25

Pretty much any who has died through suicide. Just thinking about the pain they must have been going through to do that is very upsetting.

Heath Ledger, was so shocked.

It's Heath Ledger for me. He was so young, seemed to have a bright future ahead and reminded me a little of my brother. So sad.

Also Amy Winehouse. So talented but seemed she was destined to self destruct. I didn't struggle over their deaths but when I'm reminded of either it makes me sad.

CwmYoy · 22/05/2023 11:28

John Lennon's murder shocked me to the core.

Also Freddie Mercury's death and David Bowie.

Heroes of my youth.

Robin Williams 💔

Catspyjamas17 · 22/05/2023 11:34

Amy Winehouse. It wasn't a complete shock but I always hoped she'd turn things around and though that she had been getting better when she died.

Seeline · 22/05/2023 11:34

Terry Wogan - just really sad that he no longer pops up on the TV or radio. He was always there during my life. I always smile when Graham Norton toasts him at song 9 at Eurovision.

Rik Mayall - he was very much part of my teen and young adult life.

Victoria Wood because she was just brilliant, but never seemed to realise it. She just seemed to be a good role model for women, and genuinely liked by everyone she worked with. Whenever I see a re-run of her sketched I'm always sad that there will be no more. Both she and Rik went too young.

IrregularChoiceFan · 22/05/2023 11:34

Louise Rennison, I'm still in denial about it.

DownNative · 22/05/2023 11:37

Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, Chadwick Boseman, Bruce & Brandon Lee. The last two I wasn't alive for, but these can still affect you when you read about them.

DownNative · 22/05/2023 11:39

Meant it was Bruce's death I wasn't alive for! 🤦‍♂️

clarepetal · 22/05/2023 11:40

The Smiths were amazing, and I agreed it was awful Andy R died.

Was and still gutted about Rik Mayall dying.

You mean Heaney, right?

"Two buckets are easier carried than one" poet?

Waterfallgirl · 22/05/2023 11:41

Whitney Houston as it was such a waste of her life and talent.
Victoria Wood such a wonderful writer and performer who had so much more to give I think.

Catspyjamas17 · 22/05/2023 11:41

Gary Speed. It seemed a complete shock to people who knew him well also. TBH I'd probably noticed him when I was younger as he was good looking and a contemporary. Just one of those footballers I thought would be around for ever as a coach, manager, on TV and seemed a nice guy.
