Feel this way about the death of Andy Rourke of The Smiths. They are one of my favourite bands of all time and just listening to them now. He was such a talented musician, he's the same age as my father, and I feel sad knowing he had such a cruel disease.

Seamus Heaney - there was so much more he could say

Winterisalmostover · 22/05/2023 10:17

Not one. Family and close friends, but otherwise I don't know them and however talented or famous, it's not my loss.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 22/05/2023 10:18

Rickman,

bowie...

Victoria Wood

Paul O'Grady....

Those four heaven bound people, endlessly creative, bright talents..

Premiumbondbaby · 22/05/2023 10:18

River Phoenix and George Michael.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 22/05/2023 10:18

Terry Pratchett and Terry Hall. Both brilliant at what they did. Not enough people called Terry in my opinion.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 22/05/2023 10:19

Kurt Cobain and River Phoenix. They just had so much talent and were so young. Also Amy Winehouse for pretty much the same reasons.

Littlegoth · 22/05/2023 10:19

Corey Haim. I met him a few months before and it was clear he needed help. He was a very sweet lost soul and I’m still gutted.

HRTQueen · 22/05/2023 10:20

Terry Wogan - I wouldn’t say got to me but he was very much always around in the background and bought up feelings of sadness of times and people passed

redfacebigdisgrace · 22/05/2023 10:20

Prince

Fiddlededeefiddlededoh · 22/05/2023 10:22

Jack Charlton end of an era.
Dolores O’Riardon.

Patrick Swayze - he was a hall pass for me. Still is in ghost I guess.

CatastrophicCat · 22/05/2023 10:23

Leonard Cohen - I cried and knew an enormous talent was gone. I'm 66 and I've been listening to Cohen since I was 14 - had all his stuff in every format of the time - record, cassette tape, CD, streaming. Still think he's a wonderful poet.

I completely agree. He was a genius.

TropicalMoon · 22/05/2023 10:25

Chester Bennington from Linkin Park.
The first album I ever bought was by them (hybrid theory) It’s still one of my favourite albums. Whenever I hear his powerful voice, I feel abit sad.
Naya Rivera. She accidentally drowned, they think she was struggling in the water so she swam back to the boat with her young son, she managed to boost him in the boat safely but she slipped under the water after that and drowned. Very sad.

Puppers · 22/05/2023 10:25

Chadwick Boseman. He was just so young and had kept his illness private. He was on the edge of becoming one of the biggest stars on the planet. I don’t think he got the chance to give the performance of his life; I think he had so much more to do.

Wyndam · 22/05/2023 10:26

Keith Flint and Chester Bennington

Bunnywabbity · 22/05/2023 10:28

Sue Townsend, Diana Wynne Jones and Ruth Rendell - women authors I really respected and enjoyed

Gtsr443 · 22/05/2023 10:29

Andy Rourke, Poly Styrene, Bowie, Dolores O'Riordan

Robin Williams.

Recently, Paul O'Grady.

Naya Rivera. Just thinking about hers haunts me.

Bluebells1970 · 22/05/2023 10:32

I find it hard to mourn anyone dying of drug addiction so pass on a lot of the above.

My Dad was a massive F1 fan, and I remember being so shocked at the death of Ayrton Senna though.

GoodChat · 22/05/2023 10:32

The Queen. I cried for hours and then got choked up talking about her for a while afterwards.

Willmafrockfit · 22/05/2023 10:34

and Mel Smith

Same, both such incredible voices. Couldn't believe it
