Did you have your child(ren) at age 39 or over? Looking for stories of hope

Feeling a bit low today when I think of never having a child. It probably will not happen for me but there's still a really small part of me that hopes it will still happen.

If you were around the 40 mark and it did happen for you, had you almost accepted it wouldn't happen?

Just looking for something positive to read today.

4 IVF no shows, gave up. Fate said ‘now is your moment’, was 43 when DS arrived. He was rather early, but eventually stopped being a teeny tiny tiger and is now a 6ft teen.

I started ttc age 37, no luck until I conceived naturally the month I turned 39 - smooth pregnancy & healthy baby. Started ttc second few months before I turned 42. By age 44 having had no luck went to a fertility Dr to find out if I should give up hope as I was struggling with the cycle of constant hope & disappointment. I was told that for my age group chance of conception is typically 5%, however I only had a 1-2% chance of conceiving & there was a high risk of miscarriage due to my age. My best chance was to use a donor egg but we didn't want to go down that route. About 4 months later I discovered that I was pregnant naturally. Another smooth pregnancy, healthy baby arrived after I turned 45 & is now a happy and healthy 10 month old. It can happen, keep trying and good luck x

I was 40 when I met my partner and had my one and only at 45. Don't give up hope!

Anskl · 22/05/2023 00:21

I was 39 when I conceived my DD naturally, first month of trying.
She has numerous disabilities but these are a result of her extreme prematurity, not my age.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 22/05/2023 00:33

Me - conceived naturally by my mum. She was 43.5 when I was born.

I was two weeks shy of 38 when I delivered my only child.

Throughalookingglass · 22/05/2023 00:42

My second pregnancy resulted in DC1 when I was 37. I used ovulation sticks so definitely not spontaneous. Don't give up hoping!

SueVineer · 22/05/2023 00:59

Yes conceived naturally at 37 and 39

Remaker · 22/05/2023 01:03

I conceived naturally at 37 (almost 38) and 39. First one took 10 mths, 2nd was a surprise though we weren’t using any contraception other than the obvious one of being parents to a 9 mth old.

Bobbi730 · 22/05/2023 01:25

I conceived naturally at 41. Took about 6 months of trying. I have many friends who had kids later 30's, early 40's. Good luck.

LadyJ2023 · 22/05/2023 01:51

blahblahblah1654 · 22/05/2023 01:54

I'll be 39 when my second arrives. Have a 3 year old, both natural conception

MintJulia · 22/05/2023 02:06

Conceived naturally at 44, gave birth at 45, despite losing an ovary & tube 10 years earlier.

Once I'd got over the shock, everything was fine. No issues at all. 😀

Heatherbell1978 · 22/05/2023 06:07

Yes. 2 DC, one conceived at 36 and the other 39. Both naturally and both first month trying. I know plenty older mums.

pollykitty · 22/05/2023 06:14

At 38 I was divorced and not in a relationship. I wanted a baby and was thinking of doing it along via sperm donor. I had not lost hope but then went to the doctor to have my fertility assessed. He basically said I had no chance of getting pregnant naturally and gave me the names of fertility clinics. At the time, the NHS did not cover IVF for women my age (think it’s changed now). A few weeks later I went on a date with my now DH. Things progressed and I told him I might not be able to have kids. He said ‘it’s not a dealbreaker’. A month later I was pregnant. We weren’t trying or anything, it was a total shock. Has a totally easy and healthy pregnancy. But she is my one and only.

I have 4 children - had them at 33 (clomid), 36 (clomid), 38 (clomid) and 41 (natural)…

I know lots of people that have had their 1st babies at 38+

montysma1 · 22/05/2023 06:24

42 and 45, conceived naturally.

sexnotgenders · 22/05/2023 06:24

My first child arrived just a few weeks before my 40th birthday - a very smooth, healthy, low risk pregnancy, and conceived naturally first month of trying.

I'm now only a few weeks away from giving birth to baby number two, and will be 42 when he/she is born. Another low risk and smooth pregnancy (touch wood it remains so). Conceived naturally after 3 months of trying, unfortunately with one miscarriage in between, at 8 weeks.

There's always lots of stories of people having babies into their 40s. Unfortunately there's also a lot of stories of people not being so lucky. I'm not sure what value it brings as ultimately it's all down to your own fertility health whether you will be successful, but I wish you every luck in the world 😊😊

MissDynamite23 · 22/05/2023 06:25

I struggled with my fertility in my 30s. Then I had my daughter (natural conception) at almost 38 and my son was easily conceived (first time trying) at 40.

BeethovenNinth · 22/05/2023 06:27

Had my third at 39. SIL in law had her first at 42.

i know many women in this position

are you using OPKs? Healthy?

beachwhirly · 22/05/2023 06:30

Yes I was 39 when I had my first and only, he is 10 now.

The plan had been to have a second quite quickly but I decided not to I'm the end for financial reasons. Could not have afforded nursery for two, no family help and needed my income.

Anyway, I conceived naturally just as we were about to embark on fertility tests. I had decided I'd not have IVF if there were issues as I didn't want to put us through that.

I so glad I have my son, he's my joy.

It can happen for you, don't give up.

sandgrown · 22/05/2023 06:34

Youngest child was born when I was 45 and was a “surprise “ baby conceived naturally . Fingers crossed for you OP x

Gowlett · 22/05/2023 06:35

Had my baby at 44.
He was a surprise.

FlipsFlops · 22/05/2023 06:37

Second conceived aged 39 on first attempt (after conceiving our first four years earlier took 18 months, go figure)

ovulationleavesmetired · 22/05/2023 06:42

I'm turning 42 this weekend and have a 13 month old and am also 8 weeks pregnant.
Natural conceptions and aim to have another home birth.

I've been told 'it's all a numbers game' at this age. (By a fertility doctor)
You need to get pregnant as many times as possible to cycle through all the 'dud' eggs and this has certainly proven true for myself.
I have had countless chemical pregnancy's over the last 2 years but knew to persevere until I found my 'sticky egg'

JennyForeigner · 22/05/2023 06:45

Yes, met my husband late-ish so we went straight to ivf. First baby a couple of weeks before my 40th, two more before my 42nd.

A family member recently had her 3rd (naturally) at 44.
