Did you have your child(ren) at age 39 or over? Looking for stories of hope

Feeling a bit low today when I think of never having a child. It probably will not happen for me but there's still a really small part of me that hopes it will still happen.

If you were around the 40 mark and it did happen for you, had you almost accepted it wouldn't happen?

Just looking for something positive to read today.

Conceived my first at 39 and had him 4 days after my 40th, and had my second at 42. There is hope, don't give up 😊

thaegumathteth · 21/05/2023 21:45

I didn't but I was born when my parents were 39 and 42.

My brother and his wife were 40&38 when they had their first.

Judgyjudgy · 21/05/2023 21:45

Yes conceived naturally 2 months before my 40th, after trying for 4.5 years, it was a big surprise as I had given up hope.

ShatParp · 21/05/2023 21:46

I conceived naturally at 40! I used some cheap ovulation tests I got off Amazon, not expecting them to be any good, turns out they were completely accurate! Sending positive vibes to you OP!

AlltheFs · 21/05/2023 21:47

Sorry you are having difficulties.

I had DD at 41, DH was 46. Conceived easily, lovely pregnancy, straightforward vaginal birth and an absolute delight.

I feel very lucky. It does happen and is quite normal in my circles but appreciate it must feel a long way off achievable when it isn’t happening for you. Good luck.

Prettybutdumb · 21/05/2023 21:48

My mother had me at 45 (she thought I was the official start of her menopause, poor thing).
My sister and my SIL had their first children after 40, both met their partners a little later in life.

Marjoriesdoor · 21/05/2023 21:48

Conceived naturally at age 39 after very little trying, straightforward pregnancy, healthy, bouncing baby girl delivered the day after my fortieth with no problems. I read something, somewhere that said the data doesn’t actually say it’s particularly difficult to have babies a little later in life. Certainly not a problem for me, or any of my friendship group. I think generally in our society women are made to feel like ageing is the end of the world which is a load of shite.

Nevermind31 · 21/05/2023 21:49

First one conceived at 39, had them at just before 40. Planned and conceived at 1st try. Second one took 10 month to conceive, had them when i was 42. Both healthy; second one had higher scores (ie less chance of) Downs etc.
a lot of my mum friends are similar age

JaninaDuszejko · 21/05/2023 21:49

DC1 at 37, DC2 at 39 and DC3 at 41. All conceived first month of trying.

Shefliesonherownwings · 21/05/2023 21:49

Conceived mine all naturally within 3 months of trying. Just had DS2 three weeks ago, I’m 39 almost 40. DS2 was conceived first month of trying, DH was most disappointed we didn’t need to have more sex to get pregnant lol.

Shefliesonherownwings · 21/05/2023 21:51

Should have said they my first two were born when I was 36 and 37.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/05/2023 21:53

Should say at 52 I still haven't gone through the menopause but my Mum had a late menopause and it looks like I'm going to as well (only missed 1 period so far last summer). So not surprising in hindsight that I still had good fertility in my late 30s early 40s. Ask your Mum when she had her menopause, that might give you a clue how much time you have.

Jk987 · 21/05/2023 21:53

I was single for most of my thirties. Got together with partner at 39.5, had a beautiful girl at 44. It was a struggle as we went through 7 x failed IVF and pretty much gave up. Then I fell pregnant naturally.

Are you in a relationship? Life is full of changes and surprises. There is definitely hope!

Hosum · 21/05/2023 21:55

Conceived by accident when I was 40 (literally my birthday). We were quite content with an only (then 11 year old). Now toddler happy and well. We're knackered but I think that goes with the territory no matter what the age and the experience at 40 v 29 is quite different and positive in many ways.

Imnotdrinkingmerlot · 21/05/2023 21:55

Dc 1 at 39, dc 2 at 41, both natural conceptions that didn't take too long (older dp as well). But I find have 3 mc as well before/ between.

Good luck op.

TempsPerdu · 21/05/2023 21:56

I had DD (my first and only) at 37, but SIL has just turned 40 and is expecting her first child, due next month. Very uneventful pregnancy.

Two of the couples in our NCT group were older than us, and both mums 40+ when baby was born. The majority of our group have now gone on to have a second DC, with most being 40 or about to turn 40 when baby arrived (we’re in London where this is perfectly normal and unremarkable).

SimonsCow · 21/05/2023 21:58

Conceived within 2 months of trying at age 39. Beautiful DD now aged 4. Thank my lucky stars every day still.

pintsizeprincess · 21/05/2023 22:02

I had eldest DD one month before I turned 38 and 2nd dd at 40 almost 41. It took over 2 years to conceive with my eldest , fell pregnant just before I was due to start treatment. 2nd was a complete 40th birthday surprise! tmi sorry but conceived on my 40th birthday after a few too many sherbets !

Good luck OP

thespy · 21/05/2023 22:09

My best friend had both her children in her early 40s. (She's ten years older than me) I had my third at 39. Another friend had her surprise 3rd at 41. Yet a different friend had 3 starting at about 36 and last one at 45!

henkiy · 21/05/2023 22:10

I had my 3rd DC aged 42, conceived naturally with no extra treatments or supplements. 5 months of ttc. Had a TFMR aged 40 due to genetic issues (higher risk due to age). No miscarriages. Had GD in pg and now have a lifelong higher risk of type 2 diabetes.

thespy · 21/05/2023 22:10

And I forgot another friend I met at anti-natal classes had her first and only at 40. So quite a lot of people judging by the people I know!

SirVixofVixHall · 21/05/2023 22:11

Conceived naturally, and very quickly, at 40 (41 when baby was born) and 42 (had her at 43) . First baby took a couple of months to get pregnant. Second baby I got pregnant the first night we tried.

Ferfecksackmammy · 21/05/2023 22:14

I came off the pill at the end of Feb was pregnant within six weeks at age 40. I was 41 when he arrived.

Theradiatorxylophone · 21/05/2023 22:15

Tessisme · 21/05/2023 21:40

41 and 45 when I had my DS's. Also sadly had an ectopic in between. All conceived naturally.

Hope all goes well for you OP😊

@Tessisme I hope you dont mind me asking - did you have your tube removed or did you have methotrexate ? How long after your ectopic did you get pregnant again?

We tried for 18 months for #2 and it was an ectopic pregnancy (I’m 41) and I’m so worried it just won’t happen again or I’ll have another ectopic (i had methotrexate)

Sorry OP I don’t mean to derail your thread I just haven’t found anyone my age who has had an ectopic then a successful pregnancy after so just wanted to ask Tessisme

pottytrainingggg · 21/05/2023 22:17

I conceived a healthy baby naturally at 40. I read "It Starts With the Egg" and followed the advice in that (fertility diet etc). Not sure if that helped but it was worth a try!
