Help me solve this sausage debate

Yes, this is pathetic.

If you had sausages in front of you like this and someone asked you to cut them horizontally would you choose the red line or the green line?

I'd give DH a "WTF does that mean" look. He'd have to clarify because cutting sausages horizontally isn't something I'd instinctively know what you were after.

HadalyEve · 21/05/2023 20:42

OP the bars of my oven racks all run like || so the the picture you’ve posted is turned 90degrees from how he would have actually seen the sausages in front of him. They would have been in front of him like = not like II as you are saying. So you were even more vague by saying horizontally than I originally thought when I was thinking of a plate.

That’s not my oven! It’s a tray with a grill rack on it.

My grill rack also runs like III so any sausages would be on it like =
🤷‍♀️

Oysterbabe · 21/05/2023 20:52

Chopping a sausage in half feels wrong somehow. It's common to slice one lengthways for a sandwich. I can see DH's logic.

MrFlobby · 21/05/2023 20:54

Lol this is hilarious. But your DP did cut them so they’d be less of a choking hazard for dc! I would have assumed red though.

Not a grill rack that’s in any way part of the oven. It’s from ikea!

That wouldn’t even occur to him to be honest! They’re not wee though.

Cutting the sausage horizontally would make me think green. Why wouldn't you say 'cut the sausages in half'? - still open to debate, but more likely to achieve red.

Like this one and only IKEA grill rack, with the rack running III so all sausages would actually be sitting on it like = not II ? I think it is standard that grill racks have the bars going IIII so when you put sausages to roast, they will be in front of you like this = not II. I think you’ve turned your rack sideways and it explains 100% perfectly why your DH is saying in the texts you posted that he took you literally when you said horizontally.

Green

CrystalCoco · 21/05/2023 21:13

I'd cut them 'green' ways - if you wanted them cut shorter to fit buns you'd have to be more specific as I'd say it's more common to cut them the 'green' way for putting in bread.

Duvetdweller · 21/05/2023 19:46

I thought this would be a really easy answer and I’m literally frozen with indecision

Same

BluntWithAC · 21/05/2023 21:18

Green for me too!

mumda · 21/05/2023 21:19

I'd ask why I was cutting them up and when. Cooked sausage cuts better. And I'd cut along the length to check they were cooked.

anniepanniepears123 · 21/05/2023 21:21

Green

Dalekjastninerels · 21/05/2023 21:25

Red line, green is vertical in my book.

Johnisafckface · 21/05/2023 21:28

Green.

if I wanted them cut in the red way I would say “cut them in half” but I never cut sausages like that in half so I would always assume to cut them in the green way.

BertieBotts · 21/05/2023 21:29

He's claiming that he thought your description of "horizontally" (which is a weird way to request a cut, BTW, sorry!) meant "literally parallel with the actual horizon"

Confused

I wouldn't have known what you meant if I wasn't looking at the sausages, but I also would never in a million years interpret it the way your DP did Grin You are both weird.

I would have said "Cut them in half" and if I wanted the green one "Cut them in half longways" (or lengthways)

He's wrong but the fact either of you care enough to debate it is amusing.

Hang on now - what sorcery is this? My grill tray goes III and when I grill sausages they also go III so they rest on the grooves of the rack and don't roll about all over the place when you pull the grill tray in and out. How do you manage to keep the side of the sausage you want to grill facing upwards if you put them on the rack like == ? When I do that, no matter how gingerly I try to put the tray back under the grill they've always started a mad roll around the tray and I end up grilling the same bit again.

CurlewKate · 21/05/2023 22:50

Red.

CurlewKate · 21/05/2023 22:51

"If they said "horizontally down each sausage" then the green one!"
That would be vertically down each sausage.

olympicsrock · 21/05/2023 22:58

YABU for not explains what you meant.
“please cut the sausages in half as they are too long for the buns’ would have worked.

most people cut sausages in half width wise for sandwiches.
