Yes, this is pathetic.

If you had sausages in front of you like this and someone asked you to cut them horizontally would you choose the red line or the green line?

He won’t even read this thread!

Oh. I think I would just hear “cut sausage” and do green

PickledMuffin · 21/05/2023 19:52

Red

WiddlinDiddlin · 21/05/2023 19:53

Green would be the normal way to put on sliced bread so they don't all roll off.

If I wanted them cut another way for another reason, I would specify that reason - 'oi, shorten these sausages they're too long for the rolls'... otherwise, I would expect them to be cut in half down their lengths, as thats normal.

5128gap · 21/05/2023 19:53

Green. If you wanted red I'd have expected you to say 'in two'. The fact you said horizontal would indicate you wanted the less conventional cut. If the sausages were positioned 'landscape' rather than portrait as you have in the pictures it would make a difference too.

Lund · 21/05/2023 19:55

Hmmm… would only ever cut sausages the green way. I think I would check with person asking before making any incision!

No, they were exactly as they are in the pic.

Green

Christmascracker0 · 21/05/2023 19:56

I’m wracking my brains here 😂 if someone asked me to “cut a sausage lengthways” or “cut a sausage down the middle” I’d go green. So I think also if someone said to cut a sausage horizontally I would also go green.

I think to make me go red someone would have to say “cut the sausage in half to make them smaller so they’ll fit in these rolls” 😅

msbevvy · 21/05/2023 19:57

I would have just said to cut them in half but that could also be misinterpreted.

If asked to cut them horizontally I would probably cut them lengthways as I often do for a sausage sandwich.

Heyisforhorses · 21/05/2023 19:59

Green, it's how I would have in a sandwich and I always cut them that way for the kids

UmbilicusSuperficialis · 21/05/2023 20:00

I wouldn’t expect the orientation they happened to be placed on the chopping board to indicate horizontal or vertical - normally you refer to the intrinsic shape of the object to be cut when giving chopping instructions.

So green is correct.

PS this thread is excellent. Far more important a debate then Phil and Holly or parking.

TriceratopsRocks · 21/05/2023 20:00

Green. Because I would just assume the sausages just happened to be placed at that angle and would swivel them around😁The only proper way to cut sausages is the along the green line to make sausage sandwiches, so I'd just do that. If I wanted them cut on the red line I'd have to be really clear and demonstrate (I might say cut them into 2 short/fat halves but I'm not sure that makes sense!)

Blueey · 21/05/2023 20:01

I'd clarify if you meant you wanted them cut lengthways or widthways. Horizontal doesn't really feel the right choice of word.

UthredofBattenberg · 21/05/2023 20:02

If they were presented as they are, and asked to cut horizontally, then the red line.

However, why anyone would want them cut like that I'm not sure. Though tbf you've clarified they were excessively long.

I'd only cut sandwiches the green way for a sandwich, not sure why else you'd cut up sausages, unless for a toddler

This!

BasilParsley · 21/05/2023 20:03

Red line every time - horizontal relates to the horizon so you cut from left to right (or right to left!) as per the red line.

If they were to be cut via the green line it would be vertical....

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/05/2023 20:04

Red but only because that’s how we’re looking at the sausage in your picture.

Obviously if you were looking at them the other way, green would become horizontal

Hawkins0001 · 21/05/2023 20:04

I had to google to make sure I understand, but horizontal is the red line

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/05/2023 20:04

I am officially the 'Sausage Lover of the Family' and I would refuse to desicrate sausages with either cut. However, the red line would be the correct way.

Mum2jenny · 21/05/2023 20:04

Red, but normally if I cut a sausage for a sandwich, I’d go green

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 21/05/2023 20:05

Well I would have said 'cut them in half' meaning the red line way. My DH would still belligerently have cut them the green way, then argue they are 'in half' (and would probably get the scales out to prove that the two halves weigh the same because he's a nob)

VerticalSausages · 21/05/2023 20:05

I’m red green colourblind so I’d say both options are correct and also wrong.

Vitriolinsanity · 21/05/2023 20:05

@Duvetdweller get off the fence woman Grin

Red

Thighdentitycrisis · 21/05/2023 20:05

Not answering your question, but I would ask him to cut them in half longways / portrait (green) or in half landscape ( red)
