Petty AIBU but… sandwiches!

I make my partner sandwiches to take to the office most weekdays.

I do this in the evening then put them in the fridge for him to take in the morning.

If he decides to work from home instead, he still eats the sandwiches, despite lots of other options instead - eggs on toast, salad, quiche etc we have in the house.

This annoys me as it seems so lazy and I have sandwiches to make again for the next day. He could save the ones I made for the following day.

I’d love to know if this would annoy others too. It drives me mad.

PMSL at all the people outraged about someone making someone else a sandwich.

@TheyAreMyBhunasPete I know someone who has two separate laundry baskets- one for the wife and kids, one for the husband 😭

Oh god, can you imagine resorting to that? 😂

that sounds to me like a system brought in by a wife who had reached the end of her tether. good for her if that's the case.

'clean your own jocks, Jim'.

Crumpleton · 15/05/2023 14:13

I also make my DH's sandwiches the night before, but it annoys me more if he doesn't eat them the next day even if he is working at home.

Growlybear83 · 15/05/2023 14:13

I wouldn't want sandwiches made the night before let alone two days before. Could you not make them in the morning when you know whether or not your partner will be working from home that day?

Mummysalwaysright · 15/05/2023 14:15

Dunno why you are making him sandwiches, but how come he doesn't know the evening before whether he'll be in the office the next day anyway? Surely he can plan better than that?

OR, each evening - ask him if he's going to the office the next day in which case you will make him his sandwiches - and if he isn't, don't.

I'd just get him to make his own anyway.

SilentParrot · 15/05/2023 14:20

I often make lunch for my partner but I don't think I'd want it to be my set job. I prefer a less regimented way of living.

Yeah we have 2 laundry baskets, 1 for me 1 for him. Because I'm not allowed to wash his white cotton pants, because I always forget the rule about keeping whites and colours separate, because he hates wearing pink pants. Works for us 😁

Thanks for the replies.

I’d happily eat two day old sandwiches actually. Not sure why everyone’s so repulsed by the idea. Shop ones will be two days old.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 15/05/2023 13:58

I know someone who batch made sandwiches, put them in freezer and took one everyday to work.

2 days old sandwiches are rank OP, you are getting a hard time for a reason

@Prettypaisleyslippers my cousin used to do this, with smoked salmon, ham or humous. It wouldn't work for me, as I always want salad in my sandwiches

I've got seperate baskets for each member of the family. It works well.

JaffaCake70 · 15/05/2023 14:26

I'm another voter for YABU, I wouldn't eat 2 day old sandwiches

SleepingStandingUp · 15/05/2023 14:29

Flyinggeesei234 · 15/05/2023 12:56

As to why I make his lunch, he does stuff for me too, this is just how we’ve divided some tasks up.

And yet you're unhappy he eats them. I wouldn't want day old sandwiches either so I'm with DH. If my partner made me lunch, I'd eat it. If you're unhappy, stop it.

Ktime · 15/05/2023 14:30

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 15/05/2023 14:09

Ask him the night before whether he's WFH tomorrow.

Why should she ask him? He needs to tell her or not get anysandwiches!

Jom222 · 15/05/2023 14:30

Three is no way I would eat a 2-day old sandwich. You're being a little too controlling imo.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/05/2023 14:31

Flyinggeesei234 · 15/05/2023 13:22

Not weird. If he’s home he has access to our Freud he, toaster, cooker etc
and can make whatever. The reason
for taking sandwiches into the office is that those things aren’t at the office.

I would have thought that was obvious. Maybe not!

But he doesn't want anything else, he wants his sandwich.

Ktime · 15/05/2023 14:31

SleepingStandingUp · 15/05/2023 14:31

But he doesn't want anything else, he wants his sandwich.

Then he can make his own?

853ax · 15/05/2023 14:31

I don't like eating sandwichs which have been in the fridge. So don't make night before no way would I leave it a day.
I used to bring a packed lunch to work ( mostly wfh now) I like the routine of it. So if I was in your husband situation would eat same thing days I'm at home also.
Maybe try out switching to Bin duty or some other tasks and he makes sandwichs

DanceMonster · 15/05/2023 14:32

Ktime · 15/05/2023 14:31

Then he can make his own?

What would be the point in making a sandwich when there’s already a sandwich made for him in the fridge?

DanceMonster · 15/05/2023 14:32

He should tell OP he is WFH the next so OP doesn't have to make him a sandwich.

This isn't rocket science, people.

Whiskers4 · 15/05/2023 14:35

If he's on a break, I guess eating a sandwich which has already been made is much quicker and he can use his break to recharge better.

For those who wouldn't eat a two day old sandwich, I guess you never buy a sandwich/filled roll from M&S/Boots/Greggs. If it's been kept in the fridge and is well wrapped/covered why isn't it ok?

SaltwaterSally · 15/05/2023 14:35

Are all the people who wouldn't want to eat a two day old sandwich the same people that would never buy a supermarket meal deal sandwich? Or even a prepackaged one from a posh bistro? Packed sandwiches aren't usually made the same day and have a use by date of more than two days in some cases. If I made a sandwich and it was well wrapped in greaseproof paper or foil in the fridge it'd be fine for a couple of days! In answer to your question I don't think you're being unreasonable as it creates more work for you.

DanceMonster · 15/05/2023 14:35

Ktime · 15/05/2023 14:34

I know, I said that about 2 pages ago.
My point was that if there is a sandwich in the fridge (as per the scenario in the OP, the one we’re discussing), and he wanted a sandwich for his lunch, what would be the point in making another sandwich?

ImperfectAlf · 15/05/2023 14:35

WhotheHellisEdgar · 15/05/2023 13:02

If you made his sandwiches for Monday why does it matter if he eats them in the office or at home? You've said this is how you've divided up tasks, so are you trying to get out of some of your tasks?

Exactly what I came to say.

YABU op

Posters will keep saying the same thing until the thread eventually reaches 1000 posts, or it dies a death before that. If it doesn't reach 1000 posts, some random person could resurrect it in 7 years times to say the same thing 😂😂 That's the way of MN, best get ready for it. No amount of acknowledging YABU will stop future posters from adding their tuppence worth!
