In the cost of living crisis, things have increased in price, while value, quality and quantity has diminished...

So what do you think is worth buying, worth the investment in thew tough times items can be cheap or expensive, but must at least good quality...

For example m&s baked beans 50p a tin, cheap, but tastes better than more expensive brands.

Fairy washing up liquid is more expensive but lasts long and is overall better economy

Just off the top of my head

Organic eggs

Shoes. It's always worth buying the best you can afford and looking after footwear.

Finishing powder

HopeSpringsInfernal · 14/05/2023 15:38

L'occitaine's almond shower oil - it's one of the few shower gels I'm not allergic to, it leaves my skin feeling & smelling lovely and it lasts far longer than some of the cheaper products I've tried

TinyPurpleFishes · 14/05/2023 15:38

Pampers pull ups are the only ones that don’t leak overnight with my 2 year old, the design of them is far superior to all others. I always bought supermarket own brand nappies when he was younger but more than happy to fork out for these now.

Same actually

I'll try the basics / value version of anything, and give it a fair go.

I've never found anything that really tastes like Colman's English mustard though. (The jar.)

And Melis sliced jalapenos. (Pickled, in a jar.)

Fairislefandango · 14/05/2023 15:42

Lovely loose-leaf tea from my local independent tea seller. It's more expensive than supermarket brands, but it's a pretty affordable luxury compared with other things and it tastes amazing and feels like I'm treating myself! Just had a delicious cup of darjeeling and made dd a cup of Japanese cherry green tea.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 14/05/2023 15:45

I agree with Fairy, my DH has been buying the Lidl brand in bulk and it is rubbish. Use three times as much for the same result

LakieLady · 14/05/2023 15:46

Hellmans mayo. I've tried cheaper makes, but they're always too vinegary or too greasy. Hellmans is perfect.

Eggs from my local farm shop.

Flash bathroom cleaner. We have very hard water and nothing else I've tried works as well as Flash.

kwetu · 14/05/2023 15:47

Hellmans real mayonnaise (full fat)

KevinDeBrioche · 14/05/2023 15:49

Good bread

organic dairy and eggs

quality clothes / shoes always win on CPW but clearly you need the funds to invest to begin with. I’ve just stopped buying clothes completely as it’s all so bad now, but appreciate I’m lucky to have built up a wardrobe over 20 years and not really changed shape. I’ll wear what I have until it wears out and only replace out of actual necessity.

salon highlights. wouldn’t get the same results from box dyes.

We are all different, it is one of the beauty products i really dislike.

GeneHuntsCowboyBoots · 14/05/2023 16:09

Starbucks coffee beans
Ringtons tea bags (though loose leaf is nice, I’m lazy).
Dior Nail Glow
Dermatica script skin stuff
Fairy washing up liquid and the Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets.
I never understand the love for Bisto (or Heinz beans). We make our own gravy but for a quick one we’d use Goldenfry.

ThePersistenceOfMammories · 14/05/2023 16:11

Faith in nature wild rose shampoo and conditioner. My scalp psoriasis hasn’t flared up at all since I started using it.

lurpak.

agree with pampers pull ups. I have 2 in nappies and although they’re expensive it’s worth it not to have to strip the bed every night.

AliTheMinx · 14/05/2023 16:12

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

arlequin · 14/05/2023 16:16

I find pampers the only ones that leak 🤷🏻‍♀️ have gone back to Lidl

Okunevo · 14/05/2023 16:18

Wild Isle bone broth

DustyLee123 · 14/05/2023 16:18

I could never buy cheap chocolate, has to be Galaxy, and only ever Yorkshire tea bags.

Daleksatemyshed · 14/05/2023 16:19

Faith in Nature unperfumed body wash. The only body wash/ bath foam my skin can tolerate

WedTheBed · 14/05/2023 16:21

The dove cream deodorant. It’s pricey, but my god it’s good.

I’m not joking when I say I can go 4 days without a shower and still not smell.. from my pits anyway 😂 (bad mental health episode, not just a grub)

I buy the shampoo too. Don’t know if you know but you can get a 5l bottle which saves you a bit of money.

Lurpak. Tried all the supermarket own versions but they were too close to margarine. I use butter for certain things but a quick sandwich or slice of toast needs something spreadable.

Persil washing power. Tried costco cheap and aldi but it faded our clothes so cost more in the end.

Flash wipe and done (or whatever it's called). Supermarket own brands don't spray as well or clean as well or last as long. Or smell as nice.

Fairy washing up liquid. As pp say, but cheap, need 3 times as much so its pointless.
