In the cost of living crisis, things have increased in price, while value, quality and quantity has diminished...

So what do you think is worth buying, worth the investment in thew tough times items can be cheap or expensive, but must at least good quality...

For example m&s baked beans 50p a tin, cheap, but tastes better than more expensive brands.

Fairy washing up liquid is more expensive but lasts long and is overall better economy

I get the 2.5l bottles - the 5l are too big to store

hellocats · 14/05/2023 16:31

Marmite

I could never buy cheap chocolate, has to be Galaxy, and only ever Yorkshire tea bags.

Galaxy isn't really chocolate

...but then I do live in Belgium

It's a bit better than Cadbury Dairy Milk. I prefer 85%+ dark chocolate though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/05/2023 16:45

Sainsbury's decaf Earl grey - I like it better than Twinings

MacBook Air - I felt sick at the price when I bought it, but it's brilliant to use.

Ecover washing up liquid

Lavazza coffee (although I try to stock up when it's on offer)

Arket and Cos t-shirts - cost twice as much as say M&S or Next, but keep their shape/colour ten times as long

Snoopsnoggysnog · 14/05/2023 16:45

I guess on these threads it’s a matter of personal choice, I hate Galaxy!

I agree with eight hour cream. We all love it in my house.

I would also say good bedding - duvet, covers etc. love ours and had it for years.

decent, soft socks for winter. I went through a phase of buying cheap socks from Lidl and they are horrible.

SuffolkUnicorn · 14/05/2023 16:51

Lavazza coffee
Estée Lauder make up and skincare
Rene furterer haircare

SuffolkUnicorn · 14/05/2023 16:51

Good decent white bedding can’t beat it

ADHDGURL · 14/05/2023 16:53

Fairy Liquid (use twice as much with other brands)
Nocerella olives (others have no flavour in comparison)
Diet Coke ( no nasty aftertaste)
Good white wine. Organic/ over £8 a bottle, others are like drinking sweetened vinegar 🙈
Sheba or Gourmet cat food according to the 🐈 😆 if its available in a tin he doesn't want to know🙈
Chocolate (if you going to eat it may as well be good stuff)
Tilde/Laila/Badshah Basmati rice only.. own brand is sticky clumpy and won't give your food the finish it deserves
Filipo pasta sauces, again why waste your protein by putting in a cheap sauce full of sugars and chemically tastes.
Organic fruit always tastes better IMO.. don't notice with veggies
Coffee, especially instant..noticeable difference in taste.

PuppyMonkey · 14/05/2023 16:55

Another Galaxy hater here but agree about Yorkshire tea.

Helmans Mayo or don’t bother.

Only Walkers crisps.

Linda McCartney mozzarella burgers, all other veggie burgers are shite. Richmond veggie sausages.

Fairy wash powder and conditioner.

only Aldi baked beans here!

Lovely loose-leaf tea from my local independent tea seller. It's more expensive than supermarket brands, but it's a pretty affordable luxury compared with other things and it tastes amazing and feels like I'm treating myself! Just had a delicious cup of darjeeling and made dd a cup of Japanese cherry green tea.

What country do you live in that you have a local tea seller?

Gonksmum · 14/05/2023 16:57

Fairy Liquid
Twinning's Lady Grey teabags
M & S stewing steak in a can or steak pie with shortcrust pastry
Opposite to the question but I find Lidl's Ariel dupe washing pods as good as the original. Lovely smell and wash very well.

Mummapenguin20 · 14/05/2023 17:02

Coffee no point buying a cheap coffee

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/05/2023 17:03

Can't stand Galaxy - I'd rather have no chocolate than a bar of Galaxy. Love Minstrels though.

Quisquam · 14/05/2023 17:11

We go to Aldi it maybe Lidl and buy their chocolate with no palm oil!

I can’t stand Cadbury’s since it was taken over, and they changed the recipe for the worse!

Quisquam · 14/05/2023 17:12

or not it!

IHeartGeneHunt · 14/05/2023 17:14

Fairy liquid, although I buy it cheap in B and M.
Bisto Best gravy because no other instant gravy compares.
The toilet roll with the koala.

Cookerhood · 14/05/2023 17:17

Real butter,, preferably with salt crystals. If you want it spreadable just don't put it in the fridge.

I do only buy butter, but it's not spreadable until April at the earliest in my house!

What is finishing powder

assuming powder after foundation?

Laiste · 14/05/2023 17:27

Estee Lauder Double Wear.

God damn it.

For a year i've tried so hard to find something as good and it's wasted more money than if i'd just bloody bought it in the first place 🙄

Fedupmum21 · 14/05/2023 17:41

I saw on here a thread saying ugg slippers are worth their weight in gold. So that’s what I asked DP for for Christmas last year. I must say when I’m home they are never off my feet, comfiest, sturdiest slippers I have ever had. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again even if they were £70-90 (ballpark figure from a quick google). Although they are great quality I don’t see them needing to be replaced any time soon.

Ihateboris · 14/05/2023 17:43

Decent bin liners

caffelattetogo · 14/05/2023 17:43

Lurpak

Oatly Barista milk
