Dogs everywhere?

I realise this topic is divisive and am prepared to be told I’m being VU - but is it me or are dogs showing up in cafes and shops more frequently than ever before? I was in Selfridges Manchester over the weekend and people were walking around the store with large dogs, not your usual fit in a handbag breeds but the types you see prancing around on Crufts.

When did businesses relax their bans on them? I understand if it’s a guide dog or therapy dog you can’t deny them entry, I don’t feel comfortable walking around a store or eating in a cafe where dogs are present, any one else? Should I complain to Selfridges?

No it's just you and the 500 other Mumsnetters who post this exact topic weekly.

Maybe you should avoid those who welcome dogs then. Almost every dog I see in these places is well behaved so I don't really see the problem.

wetotter · 09/05/2023 12:37

I don't think bans are being relaxed as such. For example John Lewis and many other department stores have always allowed dogs.

It's just that there are more dogs (so many new owners during lockdown)

Selfridges are unlikely to change their long-standing policy, but if you write explaining why you will not be entering one of their stores again, perhaps they'll take note.

I agree op, responsible dog owners/lovers do not subject their dogs to shopping trips.

Lol! Totally true though. It’s pretty much the exact same thread twice a week now. Yawnfest.

I think I do see more dogs in what I consider to be unsuitable places eg the mall - a whole generation of dogs hasn't been taught to be left on their own due to lockdown/work from home. Mine gets left at home, he's quite happy to be on his own and chooses to stay apart from us even when we are home.

Might find these threads useful.

3 years ago, there was a business boom in legal and illegal dog breeding because everyone and their dog wanted a lockdown puppy. These puppies are grown up dogs, mostly on their 2nd or 3rd owners now.

Divorcedalongtime · 09/05/2023 14:17

Yes far too many places with dogs and far too many people who think he or dogs should be forced upon the rest of us… the smell though. Yuck j hate it

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/05/2023 14:19

So are the hundreds of posts on here of the same thing🙄

Spidey66 · 09/05/2023 14:21

How many threads do we need on this topic? Every time I log on the dog harerscare out in force on another thread and it's getting very boring.

Spidey66 · 09/05/2023 14:22

Haters are, even

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/05/2023 14:23

Seen a dog in a vape shop earlier, buying vapes with it's owner.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 09/05/2023 14:25

Again ?!🙄

MissyB1 · 09/05/2023 14:33

Jeez not again!! Please spare us from the constant same threads over and over!

Triflenot · 09/05/2023 14:34

I’d rather see a well behaved dog in a shop than a bored frustrated child in a pushchair.

AlwaysGinPlease · 09/05/2023 14:35

Seriously?! This is taking the piss. Threads all over about this exact topic. So boring.

DiplosSet · 09/05/2023 14:40

Bingo cards ready everyone.....

CordyLines · 09/05/2023 14:42

Let the dogs in and ban the owners

bakermummy21 · 09/05/2023 14:50

It's hard for people who are allergic to dogs. Seems unfair on them.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 09/05/2023 15:35

I guess it touches a nerve for those dog owners parading their mutts around shops and cafes. Perhaps there’s so many threads about it because it annoys those who dislike dogs / are allergic to them.

Then you would post another thread about it. My dogs would rather stay at home.
