Dogs everywhere?

I realise this topic is divisive and am prepared to be told I’m being VU - but is it me or are dogs showing up in cafes and shops more frequently than ever before? I was in Selfridges Manchester over the weekend and people were walking around the store with large dogs, not your usual fit in a handbag breeds but the types you see prancing around on Crufts.

When did businesses relax their bans on them? I understand if it’s a guide dog or therapy dog you can’t deny them entry, I don’t feel comfortable walking around a store or eating in a cafe where dogs are present, any one else? Should I complain to Selfridges?

I guess it touches a nerve for those dog owners parading their mutts around shops and cafes. Perhaps there’s so many threads about it because it annoys those who dislike dogs / are allergic to them.

My dog has never been in a fucking cafe. I did take him to the pet supplies shop once.

Most ordinary people with and without dogs are just getting on with normal life.

I don’t have a dog but seriously you could have posted on one of the other billionty exact same threads. It’s getting weird.

No it's just you and the 500 other Mumsnetters who post this exact topic weekly.

This. Are you all operating a shift system for posting these, or just name changing? To be honest I'm not seeing a huge influx of dogs, unfortunately, because I love dogs.

SquirrelFeed · 09/05/2023 17:19

The mutt insult arrived bang on time. Fur babies to follow shortly 🥱

Theunamedcat · 09/05/2023 17:27

I like dogs but not every shop is "dog friendly" but owners presume they are! in a shop today the dog came running in no lead nothing "greeted" people and the owner was just stood outside waiting for it to finish socialising and then he would carry on walking

I dont want someone's dog jumping up at me when I'm in a shop
I dont want someone's dog trying to eat my food
I REALLY don't want someone's dog in the dog free part in the park because he is "friendly" and would get "lonely" in the dog area

My kid is unpredictable and autistic he could squeal he could lash out he COULD be fine but people need to stop being selfish put on a lead control your dog and if you value your existence never tell me I should cage my animal of a child

It's hard for people who are allergic to dogs. Seems unfair on them.

Tough luck for them. They can just go to one of the many places where dogs are NOT allowed 🙄

Seen a dog in a vape shop earlier, buying vapes with it's owner.

Was it a beagle? They love a smoke, so I wouldn't be surprised if they took up vaping.

It was a french bull type dog.

😂Poor taste but funny

Scottishgirl85 · 09/05/2023 17:47

Dogs behave better than most humans. The high street is dying, they need to do everything possible to increase footfall.

CheckingOutNow · 09/05/2023 17:52

This thread will get the same answers as the others.

Shit dog owners saying;
But but children are worse!
Go somewhere else then!
But but children are worse!
It didn’t happen! (when people report their genuine stories of unpleasant interactions)
But but children are worse!
I prefer dogs to humans!
But but children are worse!
Dogs licking their bums and then my face improves my immunity!
But but children are worse!

They ignore the responsible dog owners. Who keep their dogs on leads and don’t drag them to every shop and cafe, apart from appropriate country pubs.

You will not change the minds of the shit entitled dog owners. They don’t have the skills to interact with people so bond with canines instead. I guess they are to be pitied.

Anyway I have not read the thread yet but imagine some of the above have been ticked off already.

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 09/05/2023 17:58

I'm with you OP, however all the obsessively weird dog lovers will tell you you're being unreasonable or make snide comments over the amount of these threads, complete with eye roll or yawning emojis, because they're so edgy and cool.

I was on a bus on Sunday and someone got on with a dog.
I hate dogs, always have, always will, and it was just stood in the middle of the aisle meaning I had to squeeze past it to get off whilst trying to not allow it to sniff at me etc.

It also stank, as all dogs do, as much as their owners protest otherwise.
I wish dogs weren't allowed as pets, they're a nuisance.

(Awaiting all the comments comparing dogs and kids to each other.)

SquirrelFeed · 09/05/2023 18:04

Awaiting all the histrionics .. oh, too late

[insert edgy yawn emoji]

MenoRageisReal · 09/05/2023 18:11

YAWN 🥱

hattie43 · 09/05/2023 18:13

Not this subject again . Yes there are more dogs in cafes and shops and I'm very happy about this .

AlwaysGinPlease · 09/05/2023 18:16

@LakieLady @Neededanewuserhandle

Sick people regarding the beagles smoking " joke" . I hope your poor children grow up with more compassion and become decent human beings. despite you.

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 09/05/2023 18:19

Ah, so predictable. Thanks for proving my point.
Do carry on, I have my lovely, non smelly dogless life to be getting on with 👋✌️

SquirrelFeed · 09/05/2023 18:22

Are you sure you’re not a dog lover? Throwing cool emojis about like that! ✌🏻

It was a french bull type dog.

What? Not Gitanes?

Mojoj · 09/05/2023 18:48

Easy solution. Take your business elsewhere. More space for us and our lovely well behaved dogs🤣🤣

Carsarelife · 09/05/2023 18:58

Oh I love dogs, wouldn't bother me at all seeing dogs at lots of places. Beats leaving them at home alone or in a car

slowquickstep · 09/05/2023 19:15

10 years from now most of the lockdown dogs will have gone and we will all be able to shop or visit parks and beaches without mutts and their untrained owners causing havoc. Yes i have a dog. No he is not allowed to go shopping or to the pub.

RestingMurderousFace · 09/05/2023 19:56

Dogs are allowed in Selfridges???

RestingMurderousFace · 09/05/2023 19:59

“Service dogs are always welcome in our stores. Small dogs are permitted in our stores if they can be carried.”
