To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

It's OK to have cue cards, of course they don't want anything to go wrong at any moment. But W literally just read off them, rather than look the king in the eye and say his pledge with sincerity, keeping the cards as a back up. He's had months to learn one simple line! Lazy.

W & K are known for being lazy though, even the Queen (QE2) said it.

I'll take "things that were never said by the Queen for 2K, Alex".

NellyBarney · 07/05/2023 20:56

They are not 'cstds'. They are orders of service. It's good manners and totally expected to read from them. It was a church service after all, not a stage drama. Noone in a church service, not even at a wedding, and not even the vicar, is expected to say anything that's not read from the order of service.

NellyBarney · 07/05/2023 20:57

'Cards'.

Jobhuntings · 07/05/2023 21:00

OP seems to be under the impression the Coronation was a stage play that needed 'added emotion', rather a religious ceremony...

1000N · 07/05/2023 21:09

🙄🤦🏼‍♀️🙄

Lovely13 · 07/05/2023 21:13

When something is on screen with subtitles and they are speaking clearly, I still read them. I speak English! Bit like going into a pub and the TV is on, automatically stare at it. Our brains must be cue-ed to look at this stuff

GreenWheat · 07/05/2023 21:23

I hope you're watching the concert OP. Prince William is speaking live right now. Is that enough effort without cards?

I thought that. He didn’t look at his notes once.

LoveComedy · 07/05/2023 22:21

You are being grossly unfair and your assertions of laziness are completely unfounded. I would like to see you do half of it 😂. You clearly have another beef with them!

WhatHoJeeves · 07/05/2023 22:37

So much happiness in evidence this weekend. Joyful celebrations, families, friends and communities coming together. Smiles and positivity in an often dark world. Pity a few people always strive to find the bad, even if it isn't actually there.

Yes. We’ve just watched the coronation concert. Life affirming and heart warming. I don’t remember there being so much criticism of the 2012 Olympics and that cost us an absolute fortune.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/05/2023 22:57

I have a friend who is a famous actor. He wouldn't be the first person you thought of but if you Google him then you'd know him.. he refuses to use use idiot boards as he says that no matter how well you know your lines you can't help reading them anyway. He says it's like cher doing a cher song for karaoke....she would still look at the screen. I am guessing its like that.

CheshireCat1 · 07/05/2023 23:20

William knocked it out of the park tonight, I thought he was excellent.

Mamanyt · 07/05/2023 23:46

NOT them moment you want to forget your lines! And sometimes, it is the simplest of lines that dessert you in time of stress!

Prince William was excellent indeed. Looks like he saved the best of himself for the coronation concert speech!

T1Dmama · 08/05/2023 03:01

I can’t even read of a cue card when I’m nervous so he did better than I could

Honestly, I wouldn't even trust myself remember my own name in front of hundreds of million of people watching from around the world.

YABVU.

And his mother screwed up his father's name in front of millions.

The excuse given they were 'nervous' is ridiculous. They are not primary school children in a school play! He is the future head of state. If he too nervous to say two sentences without a card. We should abolish this entitled lot and elect a competent head of state .

So the truth of the matter is there is nothing the RF could do that you wouldn't work at finding some fault.

That explains everything. 🙄

Firethehorse · 08/05/2023 08:00

They wanted no mistakes with the eyes of the World watching. 🤷‍♀️ William’s Concert speech was heartfelt and a lovely tribute in my opinion. It’s best not to watch if you don’t like them.

Exactly. This whole thread, and half the other royal threads are a masterclass in nitpicking.

Neopolitan · 08/05/2023 10:15

Though to be honest we don't know if William had a teleprompter up in the ceiling at the concert, like they do at award ceremonies like the Oscars, Emmys, etc.

changednametorespond · 08/05/2023 10:35

Oh dear. Really is that all you have @michaelmacrae

Must try harder.

Madamum18 · 08/05/2023 12:07

No reply from OP re questions on when Queen Elizabeth 2and said they were lazy. Or what evidence there is that William and Kate are lazy!! Says it all really!

I'm not at all keen on the concept of Royalty but by god their fans know how to rip them to shreds over bugger all...
