To think William should have made more effort

To learn that one line pledge to his father? He read from a card looking sideways most of the way through it, and he looked like he was bored and rushing through it. Looked terrible on screen.

I know he's lazy but it wasn't too much to ask for, was it - to memorise that line and at least fake a bit of sincerity?

OP posts:

The words are historically important and go back centuries. They have to be exact, so reading from a card makes sense.

However, nice bit of gaslighting there @michaelmacrae ...william is lazy, he lacked sincerity,... He looked bored ....

Maybe the truth is he was stressed, anxious, scared of making a mistake in front of millions of people...

MagsterMum · 07/05/2023 19:31

I didn't see it, but I did see a snippet of a young boy saying something on the lines of 'we are the children of the church..." he looked like he memorised his lines.... 😀

polkadotdalmation · 07/05/2023 19:32

But I think most people posting here have nicely handed the OP his/her arse on a plate.

He has an 11 year old brain aka a sponge! LOL

Rockhall · 07/05/2023 19:34

Agree with this. My 12yo will memorise a two pager essay while having dinner. Amazing!

TooOldForThisNonsense · 07/05/2023 19:34

I agree OP, ffs it was hardly a lot he had to say. It looked like Acorn Antiques or something all the reading off cards. Even Charles as well, he didn’t have that much to say either but still had the prompts. Justin i could understand having a lot of prompts but I was quite surprised he needed one for the end blessing which is surely the same wording every service (at least it is for any I have been to) and which he presumably he already knows off by heart 🫤

The excuse given they were 'nervous' is ridiculous. They are not primary school children in a school play! He is the future head of state. If he too nervous to say two sentences without a card. We should abolish this entitled lot and elect a competent head of state .

BMW6 · 07/05/2023 19:41

A competent head of State?

Well that'll take some time............and by whose standards will he or she be judged as competent to stand?

Political? Religious? A winner of a televised public popularity contest?

I'm interested in your ideas on this.

Proudofitbabe · 07/05/2023 19:41

I like William but agree everyone seemed remarkably reliant on cues. Not suggesting anyone could or should memorize everything but Charles looked as if he'd never seen any of his stuff before, even the Bible kiss was spoon-fed. But in that intense and pressured situation, I can imagine it's just instinctive to focus on prompts if they're there.

GraysPapaya · 07/05/2023 19:41

I know loads of people including DH who worked with him in the military and he’s certainly not lazy. What a weird post.

I was impressed that he didn't need reading glasses. I'm 4 years younger than him and decidedly jealous as I hate my specs.

Even experienced actors, who memorize hours of material, have "cue cards" (teleprompters) when they do award shows. And you throw shade at someone who is not an actor and yet has to perform in front of millions of people? Geez.

When my kids were the age of his I'd have been wondering what was going on out of my sight.

Neopolitan · 07/05/2023 19:53

@Offthexmaslist Why is it the William and Kate extremists have to make EVERYthing about Harry and Meghan? I couldn't care less about Harry and Meghan one way or another but to call the infamously workshy William and Kate "hardworking" let alone extremely has to be a massive sarcastic pisstake the likes of a comedy skit mocking them. Anne is extremely hardworking. Neither William or Kate would ever put in a single days hard work, ever. William and Kate are the weakest link in the entire working royal family.

Proudofitbabe · 07/05/2023 19:54

@Iwasafool I thought that too!! Maybe he wears contacts? Very impressive if not!

TeaAndTattoos · 07/05/2023 19:56

2bazookas · 06/05/2023 17:43

I can hardly imagine the stress level for both of them; I'd need a cue card too.

Exactly I think even I would struggle to remember what I needed to say in front of that many people and however many millions watched it on tv they would be the talk of social media if they had fluffed anything up.

Brittl · 07/05/2023 20:01

Its was a huge day for William which might have been mixed emotions. The reality is he's moved one step closer to the throne and his son has too. The coronation probably brought those feelings to the front when the Queen was alive all that probably felt miles away.

BellaVida22 · 07/05/2023 20:02

How many engagements does he do?

He’s lazy

Yes and the enormity of the occasion would probably get to you no matter how many times you learnt it, your mind can suddenly go blank, a good example is a I've forgot my PIN number once and stood there like a gormless fool racking my brains trying to remember it but for some reason my mind went blank, 4 digits that I've used hundreds of times so I should know it like the back of my hand right? So I'm not going to knock William or anyone else yesterday having back up. The coronation is history in the making and it needs to be perfect.

polkadotdalmation · 07/05/2023 20:17

When you do your wedding vows, you parrot the words of the vicar or registrar. Its well recognised you can fluff even the simplest lines when stressed. You might end up married to the best man.

It's a pledge, it's meant to be from the heart. I think William could have made more effort, it was just a few words FFS.

This is so mean and unnecessary.

Notmybloodyking · 06/05/2023 18:22

He is lazy. There’s also been reports of how lazy he was at university.

https://www.republic.org.uk/the_lazy_prince_william_does_46_days_work_in_gap_year

The Republic!? LOL! Talk about trash....

Nanaof1 · 07/05/2023 20:37

FourTeaFallOut · 06/05/2023 17:56

Look at the number of people who think scanning the coronation for moments of sub-par pomp and ceremony is some kind of proxy for republican discourse. Oooh, a horse looked pissed, George looks bored, William read off a card... let's start the revolution!

It's really so very silly. If you look for something to kvetch about, you'll always find it. Everything they mention is so petty and unimportant, but yet, they act like it's the biggest thing ever. I just laugh and roll my eyes. 😆🙄

I wonder how some of these people would feel if their life got examined. I mean, if you do it to others, be prepared to have your glass house shined up. 🤔

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 18:06

Haha I’ve never seen such dedication to an event they have no interest in

I'm imagining them sitting around watching ever second of footage with a 1000x magnifying glass so they don't miss even one speck of dust or one twitch, yawn, smile. And if they don't find anything? Make something up to be offended over, which they continue to do it seems.
