To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

Because we're doing the garden. Will watch the highlights later

We're watching the livestream of the Indy rally in Glasgow, waiting for Alex's speech, and some rugby match or other. Not enough screens for Charlie too.

I’ve watched bits of this today. I don’t know how I missed it was happening or I’d have been there.

I’m cleaning my house today. Way more impoetant to me after a few weeks of DH and I being lurgied and things being neglected

Flowertight · 06/05/2023 15:00

Curious about what? It’s pathetic and I don’t waste my life watching shit

Amortentia · 06/05/2023 15:01

dementedpixie · 06/05/2023 13:56

I'm in Scotland so it feels very far removed from me. Have no interest in the monarchy. Basically I just don't care!

Me too. I have no interest and many people I know have gone out to the independence march through Glasgow instead.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 06/05/2023 15:02

I wasn't terribly interested but I did switch on at midday and saw the actual crowning. Just dumb luck tbh. I didn't KNOW it would be at midday I sort of guessed it 😂
Switched off again after Camilla got her funny hat too. Was very boring and everyone looked utterly miserable. Especially Charles

Saniflo · 06/05/2023 15:03

I had better things to do tbh. I can't sit around watching TV all day I have four children to look after.

Flowertight · 06/05/2023 15:03

many historical acts we don’t agree with, but looking away says more about the person than the act. my opinion, is it does not make you edgy, it makes you ignorant

hang on, I’m ignorant if I don’t spend the day watching a billionaire spunking £150m of our money up the wall whilst 1 in 5 kids live in poverty? It’s got zero to do with being ‘edgy’ it’s about being a decent fucking human.

steff13 · 06/05/2023 15:04

I'm in Ohio. I didn't get up at 5am to watch, but they're streaming it in a loop on TV. I'm watching. This is the first time this has happened in my life time; it's a historic event. Of course I'll watch.

Dwightlovesmichael · 06/05/2023 15:04

I’m not interested.

And I’ve got my own worried consuming me.

Mytholmroyd · 06/05/2023 15:04

Ginnybaby · 06/05/2023 14:56

There are plenty of things I don’t have an interest in. I don’t click on threads, read them. And announce I’ve no interest, why would I, I’ve no interest.

and yet, here you are…

But the OP was asking why people weren't interested in watching it - how is she going to ever understand if only people who are interested in it respond?

Hbh17 · 06/05/2023 15:04

I have just watched for 7 hours straight through. It was fantastic and made me feel very proud and emotional.

Thelondonone · 06/05/2023 15:05

I’m an overworked underpaid teacher and I had marking to do. I’d rather get it out of the way so I can enjoy my evening.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 06/05/2023 15:06

I have no tv.
I had no idea it was happening until I saw a road closed sign outside my flat, I realised what the date was.
I looked it up in a newspaper.
I'd be bored rigid.
I'm busy watching something infinitely more interesting on my firewalled.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 06/05/2023 15:07

*fire tablet.

RedVanYellowVan · 06/05/2023 15:09

For those of us who have failed to give up our day to watching the coronation, I think we can safely assume there will be a few bits and bobs about it on YouTube at some point.

If we can summon up the interest.

Cloverforever · 06/05/2023 15:11

Because they had an affair and behaved appallingly. I can't stand people who cheat on their spouses.

I8toys · 06/05/2023 15:11

Loved it especially the march by the armed forces. For me its not just about the royal family but our military and other services.

tigger1001 · 06/05/2023 15:11

Genuinely zero interest. I played tennis during!

The thread title has a lot do with it. It is actually asking why people wouldn't watch it. So asking for responses as to why that would be. Hardly a stretch for people to actually answer the question posed.

Maybe you are less interested in the coronation than you want to appear to be??

OneTC · 06/05/2023 15:12

Katypp · 06/05/2023 13:54

But you not watching changes nothing. Are you not a little bit curious?

Not really. I've had some stuff to do today, so have been doing that. If I'd been sat down I'd maybe put it on the tele for a bit but I don't really have any interest in them. I've watched various of their funerals and other events, will go and watch changing of the guard or some horsey thing if I happened to be walking by. I am not remotely offended by them like some people are I just put them in the same category of people I don't know doing things I don't care about

Notanothernewname · 06/05/2023 15:12

I binge watched all of last week's Eastenders. I'm not a royalist and think it's an outdated institution.

When we're in the middle of a cost of living crisis, when people can't afford their bills, it seems a little tactless to spend all that money and expect the 'little people' just to lap it up.

OhmygodDont · 06/05/2023 15:13

If it was younger royals I would have probably gone to the in-laws or paid to watch I guess but this is a near 80 year old man inheriting his mother hat. It’s really old oap gets fancy day to be richer oap.

william and Kate will be so old by the time they get it too that will seem pointless as well

MaybeWednesday · 06/05/2023 15:14

My dad took me out my cot to "watch" the first man on the moon landing, I woke my son to see the fall of the Berlin Wall.

But watch an unfaithful spoilt old codger and his mistress get a new hat whilst the rest of the country is at breaking point.

No fucking thank you.

You might want to go back and read the first post again. That might make things a bit clearer for you.

Crikeyalmighty · 06/05/2023 15:16

I've been to a cafe for brunch and did my shop . Just watched 15 minutes of highlights- I am neutral about the monarchy in general, not anti it but would prefer a more Dutch/Danish kind of monarchy .

cryinglaughing · 06/05/2023 15:16

Work with animals. Sadly they won't wait whilst I sit and watch the coronation for hours on end.
