To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

No interest, didn’t watch the euro either (don’t even know when that was!)

BebbanburgIsMine · 06/05/2023 19:14

I'm Scottish and loved watching the Coronation today!

DD2 feels the same as me, it was her idea to get Coronation themed paper plates, cups, napkins and tablecloth.

She prepared buffet type food for us, and we watched and enjoyed it together.

Watching the highlights programme now.

Notanothernewname · 06/05/2023 19:32

Just switched the TV on and caught a few seconds of the highlights, loving the fact Justin Welby has someone holding his prompt cards which were hidden under the cassock.

Katypp · 06/05/2023 19:40

Some really sneery replies here. Why do people make such a virtue of not keeping up with current affairs and pretending they did not know there was a Coronation? I would be embarrassed to admit that I am so poorly informed. But, as a pp so nicely put it, I am maybe a bit dim.

I hate most things about the RF and I think the overt show of wealth today was repugnant. I think they're a bunch of arrogant, immoral, dysfunctional, hypocritical, workshy leeches.

I still watched though. On the off chance one of the pages spewed all over Charlie or one of them fell flat on their face in their ridiculous costumes. You never know.

Watching Camilla walking like a plank of wood with her arms glued to her side the whole way was oddly fascinating.

@Katypp Some really sneery replies here.

Says the poster who’s first sentence was sneering about anyone not interested in the coronation as an ‘edgy republicans’.

SocksAndTheCity · 06/05/2023 19:46

Yes, if you can't grasp the difference between not watching a single, extremely well documented event on TV and not keeping up with current affairs (such as following, participating in and discussing the elections earlier in the week, just as a recent example) then I'd say you probably are a bit dim. Don't feel bad - you're certainly not on your own.

I don't have a TV licence, so can't legally watch it.

I mean we might've chosen to watch it if we had a licence, but I won't pay for one, so we can't...

The Beeb waived the fee for today to watch the event because of its significance

Thedogscollar · 06/05/2023 19:49

When I first read your title in my head I saw To not understand why anyone would not watch Coronation St😂and as an avid Corrie fan came on here to find out the answer. Big disappointment 😆

Jewelanemone · 06/05/2023 19:50

Love all the competitive disinterest posts 😆 Who cares if you watched it or not? Absolutely nobody!

FilthyforFirth · 06/05/2023 19:50

I'm a republican, though not sure I'd class myself as sneery. I believe in democracy and believe the monarchy has long outlived its relevance/usefulness. So I didn't watch today. I am well aware my feelings on the RF are in the minority but plenty of my royalist relavtives also didn't watch today.

I have literally zero interest in it. It doesnt feel historic or important to me, we will literally have another one in 20 or so years time...

The OP does. She doesn’t understand why anyone wouldn’t watch it!

People are responding to the OP who asked why people weren't interested in watching it!

DeadButDelicious · 06/05/2023 19:53

We went to try and find an antiques place we've been meaning to visit. It was shut. Annoying. Then we went for some lunch and did a bit of shopping, by the time I got home it was all done and dusted. I have seen a few photos because people were posting them on Facebook. I'm not avoiding it completely, that would be impossible but I'm not seeking it out as it would just annoy me. I saw a photo of him being crowned and that was more than enough.

Dollmeup · 06/05/2023 19:54

I honestly couldn't care less about it. I'm in Scotland and literally saw one house in my town with some bunting outside and that was it. It's not really been a big deal here.

Scabetty · 06/05/2023 19:55

I thought it was Monday so missed it 😂

Think you’re on the wrong thread love, it’s literally about why people didn’t watch it.

Sneery you say?
I do think that the first post often sets the tone for the thread.🤔

Kiwivicjules · 06/05/2023 19:56

Well I watched it despite being on the fence regarding the RF . Enjoyed the pomp ,the music ,would the crown fall off the kings head ,the outfits…actually respect for everyone who were all so well scrubbed up by 730am in the Abbey.
So yes I did enjoy it 🤷‍♀️😊

Inkypot · 06/05/2023 19:56

Not remotely curious, what would there be to be curious about? DH gave me a much needed long lie this morning and I slept through the whole thing. Makes no odds whether I watched it or not, they weren't going to cancel the whole thing to wait for me so why would it matter at all whether I watched or not? What a strange attitude to take 🤷‍♀️

AP5Diva · 06/05/2023 19:57

I would have liked to watch it live, but don’t have a TV license so will watch it tomorrow.

Well I do keep up with current affairs just not when it comes to the royal family and a coronation I dont care for. I check the news and read articles on what interests me. Reading articles on coronation dont so I didnt realise it was today.

So no i wasn't pretending I didnt know. I genuinely didnt. And I'm far from feeling embarrassed that I'm so poorly informed cos end of the day it has fuck all impact on my life. Infact I enjoyed a lovely drive down the motorway to visit my parents with it being so clear and barely any cars ont he road! Far more enjoyable listening to some tunes then sitting down watching a boring ceremony.

I'm also not being sneery, im simply responding to op to say why I didn't see it.

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 06/05/2023 19:59

I was at a softplay party with my kid. Nobody there appeared to be watching it.

Who gives a fuck what others do?

Notmybloodyking · 06/05/2023 20:01

I do care, I care a lot. I think the monarchy is abhorrent and want it abolished. I’m hardly going to watch the coronation, am I?

Exhausteddog · 06/05/2023 20:04

I keep up with current affairs, I knew it was happening, the free newspapers have devoted pages to it. I listened to a radio programme about the crown and the history of it....I just don't want to watch the entire thing in real time on TV. It doesn't mean I'm not informed about what's going on!
