To not understand why anyone would not watch the Coronation?

OK, I get that you are an edgy republican, but are you not a little bit nosy?
And if you really don't care, why are you on every Coronation thread telling everyone you don't care? Why would you not just ignore them, as you don't care?
I personally have no time for the Royal family and think they should be abolished completely, but I can't imagine not watching such a big thing for the whole country, in the same way I watched the euro Cup final even though I could not name any of the players as I have no interest in football.
Why wouldn't you?

I doubt you’re the only one in the world with an interesting life.

Some people just move plans around so they can watch something that they find interesting or that’s going to be part of history and be able to talk to their grandchildren about when they ask.

I don’t get the judgement.
I’m sure there are plenty of things that you do that others find boring.

What are you going to be able to tell your grandchildren about it that I, who haven’t watched it on the telly, can’t?

earsup · 06/05/2023 17:35

Don't have a tv, been in garden and cleaned the cooker...!!

bloodywhitecat · 06/05/2023 17:45

Why wouldn't I watch it? Because my small person is almost 3, has complex health needs, is blind, is unable to turn over in bed without help and gets absolutely nothing from being confined indoors to watch a long, drawn out process they will never understand so we went out for a good long walk in a place they love where they loved the bumpy paths, the sounds all around them and even the feel of light rain on them.

WorryingTimes · 06/05/2023 18:02

I'm Irish living in London. Stayed well out of the way today as I couldn't give a fuck. Hope this helps your comprehension.

LisaD1 · 06/05/2023 18:11

Not watched it at all. I work a busy, demanding job all week and Saturday is my day to do the things I need to (I’ve got horses so had to do some jobs there plus shopping) and I get enough info on the news channels I will scan thru later.

Candymay · 06/05/2023 18:14

I couldn’t watch any sport. Just no interest. And that is the same even if a cup final or whatever. I didn’t watch any of coronation because it doesn’t interest me enough. Same kind of thing. If invited I would have gone though. Im not churlish

Nmchanger · 06/05/2023 18:14

Because I'm too busy moving house. Although to be fair I wouldn't have watched it any way.

Cloverforever · 06/05/2023 18:14

I was working all day. It was lovely and quiet, which makes a pleasant change!

Shade17 · 06/05/2023 18:18

I like these big events because the roads are quiet and it’s more pleasant to go out when most people are at home

Me too, I went for a 200 mile hoon!

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 18:21

Me too, I went for a 200 mile hoon!

I've never heard of a hoon before. I assume that's a drive?

Whataninsight · 06/05/2023 18:22

Lcb123 · 06/05/2023 16:58

Because I have an interesting life with actual fun plans. It’s all so pathetic

You’ve been on mumsnet for most of the day according to your posting history @Lcb123 ! 😂

Yes, a spirited drive

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 18:24

Thank you.

Spectre8 · 06/05/2023 18:35

I thought it was on Monday, hence the bank holiday, haven't really followed the news on it so didn't realise it was today until I turned up at my mums and they were watching it! Missed most of it.

Oh well. No harm done, not really interested anyway. Hardly different ..same old go to church, choir sings, the archbishop does he thing, they then walk out get in coaches and drive to the Palace and every regiment follows.

I mean its same old same old to me

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 06/05/2023 18:39

It was just really, really boring. I had it on in the background.

FindingMeno · 06/05/2023 18:40

Some of us were at work.

hiredandsqueak · 06/05/2023 18:43

I've got a new book so was reading that. We only put TV on when there is something we want to watch and it's rarely on at the weekends. I'm not interested at all in the royal family, I didn't watch the football either. I don't feel I missed out at all though.

ElmTree22 · 06/05/2023 18:46

Tessisme · 06/05/2023 13:59

Is it today?

To be fair I thought it was tomorrow!

TheWernethWife · 06/05/2023 14:01

I caught a glimpse of it while out shopping, Camilla looked scared to death.

Because she knows the country hates them both 😂

RicherThanYews · 06/05/2023 14:07

I'm not a republican, edgy or otherwise but I'm rewatching House of Wax and writing to my penpal. Priorities.

House of wax...the horror with Paris Hilton?

ElmTree22 · 06/05/2023 18:51

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 06/05/2023 14:10

Eh, I'll catch the next one.

You won't be waiting long...

Ivenamechanged45 · 06/05/2023 18:54

Your opinion is weird. I want a republic, although accept some people don't, but I've genuinely got no interest in watching it. I'm tired, it's my day off, I've got loads to do. Why would I watch something on telly I'm actively uninterested in?

coeurnoir · 06/05/2023 19:02

I don't think I'm an edgy republican, just a republican and have been since I read the Gormenghast trilogy at 13 or so. It was the descriptions of those pointless ceremonies and the Groan family that made me reflect on the point of our monarchy.

It is also a long time since I've been made to watch something because of history and feel it's a bit ridiculous that people are using this as a reason to watch it.

I was reading the new book about Johnson this morning which is far more interesting to me from a historical perspective. But hey, if pointless pomp and ceremony and a huge waste of public money floats your boat then crack on.

Threebeanburrito · 06/05/2023 19:04

I didn't watch it because I thought it would be boring.

coeurnoir · 06/05/2023 19:10

The interesting thing for me, to be honest, is reading and listening to what people are saying about it.....and feeling pleased that there does seem to be a sea change in opinion from sycophancy to cynicism. That definitely warms my co,d republican heart.

That and Harry going full Titus Groan (just to get in another Gormenghast reference 🤣).
