Hmm. I disagree about the crowds. I've seen it busier during Winter Wonderland or when the Rolling Stones are playing. Or during protests. Certainly, there were far more people for the queen's funeral and jubilee.
They were still letting people join the procession route when I took the dog for a walk, not long before 9am, which really surprised me. I expected the streets to be packed already by that time.
St James and Green Park were busy but not Hyde Park. During the service, Hyde Park seemed to be full of people being routed through the park by the stewards. There were far less people actually watching the screens than making their way to the tube. A lot of the crowd seemed to be foreign tourists. They were far more excited than the Brits 😂
The road and tube closures, and the stewards directing everyone in the same direction were causing chaos but not the number of people IYSWIM. While we were talking to one of the stewards, only 1 person who asked for help was there for the coronation, the other 3 were locals trying to get home 😂
We went down to watch the flypast and had no trouble getting there as everyone seemed to be going the opposite way. Going home, we got diverted by road closures and it was tipping it down so we ended up going for lunch wine in Shepherd Market, just off Piccadilly. It was quieter than a normal Saturday, plenty of space in the pubs and restaurants.
