@Prescottdanni123 please see my response to the poster who mentioned the 4 year old.

Yes, horses spook. Therefore we can either trust their training or not allow any banners, loud cheering etc. at all. Apply the same rules to all. That simple enough for you?

Heliotroper · 06/05/2023 11:37

if you cannot protest when an unelected head of state is taking the stage when can you protest?

ExitChasedByAMemory · 06/05/2023 11:37

pointythings · 06/05/2023 11:33

@Iwasafool why was the 4 year old close enough to the horse to be stepped on in the first place? Failure of safeguarding.

Nothing is ever 100% safe in life, in any area, but these horses are being deployed in a situation where there are going to be things waving about and people are going to be making a lot of noise. The choice therefore is simple:

  1. you trust the training, with the caveat that it is imperfect;
  2. you do not allow anyone to make noise or wave banners, whether pro or anti monarchy.

No double standards.

Completely agree.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 11:37

I don't think horses are pro Monarchists who only conveniently spook at Republican propaganda. Anything could spook a horse, even the best trained police or military horse can become frightened because they're still animals not machines so considering the risk perhaps if you're so concerned about it, they shouldn't be gathering hundreds of them together with loud music and huge crowds regardless of the occasion.

IClaudine · 06/05/2023 11:39

I find it baffling people are OK with this.

I think horses should be banned from this sort of thing to be honest.

Just in case.

Having seen those camping out with there fevered shouting, singing, waving flags and god knows what... it is dangerous as it might spook the horses.

Why is everything in bold?

Thank you! I thought I was going mad for a minute.

I find it depressing.

Whaeanui · 06/05/2023 11:41

I’m not surprised people are ok with this. I’ve been protesting important issues all my life and you’d be surprised how nasty people can be when you peacefully protest. Doesn’t matter what the issue is.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 11:42

With the right to protest comes the responsibility not to be a cunt about it, either to cause unreasonable disruption or, for an event like this, spoil other’s enjoyment. I’m glad the protesters were arrested and I completely agree with the new law.

Keep that in mind if there's ever a cause that you disagree with and wish to protest. Rights are not just for people and causes that you agree with. They're for everyone.

Exactly. So agree with you.

Protest makes some people very very uncomfortable.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:43

@Roussette

Maybe they should be banned but they haven't been yet. They are there today which is why police have taken measures to make sure they don't get spooked, such as stopping protestors using megaphones or from climbing barriers etc.

My post was actually tongue in cheek. Shame yours isn't!

IClaudine · 06/05/2023 11:45

People really need to think about the implications of this.

So you don't want the day of bumlicking to be disrupted. What if a future government decides to bring in something that you vehemently disagree with, something that will harm you. Will you be happy then that you can't even protest about it without being arrested?

LakieLady · 06/05/2023 11:45

Papernotplastic · 06/05/2023 11:23

Can I ask those of you who feel so strongly about this what age you are? 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60+? Obviously a hereditary monarchy is an anachronism but I’m surprised by quite how intensely some people feel about today.

I'm 67, and I'm a republican.

IClaudine · 06/05/2023 11:46

I am pushing 60. Staunch republican.

^^ This.

It's all OK Royalists thinking these protesters who had done nothing are arrested because they love the RF.
But this is everyone affected. The public order bill was rushed through this week.

I hope to god some of you don't want to protest about something really really important to you in the future.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:50

@Roussette

I was only humouring you, dear. But there probably people who think that horses should be stopped from taking part in these events.

If you think that 'peaceful' protesting is worth the risk to riders, horses and bystanders then so be it.

Yes I do think that. Thanks. Ermmmm 'dear' 🤣

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:52

I wouldn't call turning up to a procession with loads of horses with a megaphone and planning to climb a barrier as doing nothing.

Did they climb a barrier?
Did they use the megaphone to disrupt it?

People have been arrested without having committed a crime.

I really can't do this anymore with you. Sorry.

It's boring, tedious, we don't agree, end of.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:53

@Roussette

So if a horse did spook and throw his rider due to a protestor's actions, that would just be tough shit?

If the results of a protest are that someone got thrown from a horse and injured, that is not a peaceful protest

Roussette · 06/05/2023 11:54

Please stop @ ing me. I'm not interested in your horse talk anymore.
