Imagine, a 'peaceful' protestor throws something, either at someone or deliberately at one of the horses. The horse spooks and throws his rider off, who is seriously injured upon landing. Other horses panic. One careers towards the barrier, behind which is a large crowd of members of the public. Because the police officers standing guard and the barrier can do fuck all against that much horse flesh, the public panic and run. People get trampled in all the chaos, possibly to death. All because the police trusted protestors to be peaceful. It could happen. With so many people present, a lot of people could get harmed if the protestors aren't as peaceful as they make out to be, or drunken idiots join in for the crack, or people pretend to be peaceful protestors but are actually there to just cause a much harm to other people are possible turn up. But hey, who cares if dozens of people get injured, possibly even killed as long as we are able to exercise our human right to protest, eh?

@Prescottdanni123 The Hollywood screenwriters have just gone on strike. There'd definitely be a vacancy for someone with your sense of drama if you don't mind crossing the picket line.

@Roussette

So if a horse did spook and throw his rider due to a protestor's actions, that would just be tough shit?

If the results of a protest are that someone got thrown from a horse and injured, that is not a peaceful protest

If if if

You don’t arrest people just in case a horse is spooked. These horses are highly trained, that’s why they’re there. The crowds are loud too, plenty of people cheering and screaming. I’ve been around horses all my life and there’s a bunch out my window now. Either the horses are trained for this, or they shouldn’t have horses there at all.

@cakeorwine

Police were between a rock and a hard place. If the protestor kept the megaphone and spooked a horse, the police would get in trouble. If protestors jumped the barrier and caused havoc, police would be asked why they didn't intervene immediately when they found out that could be what the protestors were planning. Better for the police to nip something in the bud before it happens.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:57

@Roussette

With pleasure. There's no point carrying this conversation on if that is the best response you can come up with now anyway.

Whaeanui · 06/05/2023 11:57

Oh dear. Is that how you think the police should operate? Funny because they do sweet fa when women are being stalked by men, you’d think they would nip that in the bud but oh no, they haven’t done anything.

LadyWithLapdog · 06/05/2023 11:57

@Prescottdanni123 you’re embarrassing yourself. I’d stop now.

Nipping something in the bud because of what could happen?

Why not lock up all potential protestors about anything now because of what could happen?

It’s very hard to respond to complete fantasy though, to be fair. You got quite carried away imagining all sorts

limitedperiodonly · 06/05/2023 11:59

@Prescottdanni123 Sorry. I think I should have quoted someone else there not you. This thread is far too fast-moving for me. It was a dramatic scenario though

TheyIndeed · 06/05/2023 11:59

If horses can get spooked and murder everyone then maybe we shouldn't have horses in the parade?

LadyWithLapdog · 06/05/2023 11:59

I’d nip it in the bud and stop replying @Prescottdanni123 as you’ve made enough of a fool of yourself. Hide this thread from your kids.

That's my best response to you, yes.

Yep. Just in case. Minority Report here we come!

So if a horse did spook and throw his rider due to a monarchist's actions, that would just be tough shit?

Why don't you get that horses are not automatically Royalists?

MintJulia · 06/05/2023 12:03

roarfeckingroarr · 06/05/2023 08:48

I'm not in favour of arresting people for peaceful protest at all but I've no problem with them being moved on. It's a huge day with much of the world watching. Let's have the spectacle (that we're paying for) without disruption.

This.

When there is a majority for getting rid of the monarchy, then we'll do it.

But there isn't, and no need to ruin the spectacle of the coronation which will earn millions for the whole country.

Heliotroper · 06/05/2023 12:03

I am a republican although not something I usually give much thought too but I am appreciate the protesters giving me some representation. This is a state occasion an all those in the state deserve to be heard.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 12:04

@Roussette

It is what the police have to do. That is why they have arrested people. They have to think what if that megaphone spooks the horses? What if those protestors do climb the barrier? What if they cause havoc in doing so?

Police are between a rock and a hard place. They get in trouble for arrested people before something happens. But if they just left the protestors to it and something did happen, e.g a horse spooked or protestors climbed the barrier and caused chaos, they would also get into trouble, especially if someone got hurt.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 12:05

Why not lock up all potential protestors about anything now because of what could happen?

Right, that's me off to jail then.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 12:06

But there isn't, and no need to ruin the spectacle of the coronation which will earn millions for the whole country.

So protesting should only be allowed if there's a majority in favour of the thing the protestors favour? That isn't how it works, at least not in a country that has freedom and democracy.

Roussette · 06/05/2023 12:06

I think someone on here is a tad obsessed with me. Very odd 😂

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 12:07

@pointythings

If horses spooked easily at normal crowds all the riders would be on the floor. But they won't be used to megaphones/people jumping the barrier/throwing things etc.

It's a wonder I survived the Marches I went on without doing porridge.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 12:08

@Roussette

Back to the petty responses because you can't think of anything else. I'm done.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 12:08

@Roussette you or horses, it's hard to tell.

But honestly, this thread is scaring the hell out of me. So many people eager to remove the freedoms everyone should have in a democratic country.

Skybluepinky · 06/05/2023 12:09

They r arresting them as they don’t want any issues they could distract if there was a security issue. Terrorists will take full advantage of any distractions.
