Let’s see how you all feel if it was your big occasion that was being disrupted. If you don’t like it then don’t go.

Yeah this. ^ There are some really nasty posts on this thread. Glad I don't know people like this in real life. Urgh!

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:13

@Roussette

I buy into freedom of speech. Not if it is going to spook horses at an extremely crowded event with potentially disastrous results. Someone who turns up at an event where there are lots of horses with a megaphone is not interested in protesting peacefully.

wheresit · 06/05/2023 11:13

This is appalling. Fuck me, how are people okay with this?

Roussette · 06/05/2023 11:13

Sigh.

It wasn't being disrupted. It wasn't going to be disrupted. Republic were in an area agreed with the Police.

I will keep repeating. I am for free speech. Shame you're not.

Lol, this is not a private birthday party that nobody else is entitled to comment on. It is a public event, funded by the taxpayer, that many people are deeply uncomfortable with.

This is not just Charles' big day. It has significance for the whole country, and a lot of people don't agree with it. That is their democratic right.

Enncee · 06/05/2023 11:14

PrettyMaybug · 06/05/2023 11:12

Already done it babe. If only to annoy people like you.

Not annoying, but it did make me smile that people are genuinely doing it. 😁

Iwasafool · 06/05/2023 11:15

cakeorwine · 06/05/2023 10:59

The police have fucked up massively doing this.

No more than the people who weren't in the agreed place.

Heliotroper · 06/05/2023 11:15

this is counter productive

I had never heard of Graham Smith before today and the story is going around the world, tv companies love a bit of this to break up all the parade stuff that can get a bit samey

If my "big occasion" cost the tax payers the same money then I'd expect more than disruption.

Roussette · 06/05/2023 11:16

cakeorwine · 06/05/2023 11:12

They were going to a place away from the occasion that was set aside.

I don't think people are getting that.

It was agreed.

It's no problem @cakeorwine

I posted on another thread that if this gets repeated to Royalists more than 20 times I can treat myself to an extra big bottle glass of wine tonight or three.

We are up to about 14 times of repeating this at the moment.

BorgQueen · 06/05/2023 11:16

Probably saved them from getting their heads kicked in if the crowds got hold of them

Roussette · 06/05/2023 11:17

Iwasafool · 06/05/2023 11:15

No more than the people who weren't in the agreed place.

Sigh.

they were. They were unloading their van, or trying to, near the agreed place.

Hadjab · 06/05/2023 11:17

Theunamedcat · 06/05/2023 08:41

Why is anyone surprised? They ate arresting people most likely to cause an issue

That’s not how democracy, or indeed the law works. To paraphrase the movie Scream, “the call is coming from inside the house, Sydney.”

The call is fascism.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 11:17

@Prescottdanni123 I don't think you know a lot about the kind of training police horses and military horses undergo.

They're trained to handle having things thrown at them, being charged by people, being attacked, having smoke grenades go off - the lot. They're amazing animals which have an amazing bond with their riders. We can argue about whether they should be used at all and trained at all from an animal rights perspective, but the fact is that they are. And they absolutely can handle this. You're making things up.

Most of us little people don't parade about in a golden carriage with our cock out expecting the nation to collectively suck it. But here we are.

Novella4 · 06/05/2023 11:18

Yes it's international news

I can't stand the monarchy but I watched a bit to see what the crowds were like ( looked thin to me )
God it was dull and also weird .

All that gilt ( guilt more like ) and two elderly people hobbling along in their ridiculous robes

It's flat .
It's not working
Maybe a royalist can explain why

Heliotroper · 06/05/2023 11:18

this is public occasion

so it is everyone's occasion

they invited people to swear an oath

but people who disagree have every right to their say too

Iwasafool · 06/05/2023 11:18

thanksamillion · 06/05/2023 11:02

Maybe the police have ways of talking to each other before they make spurious arrests?
It's the leader of the main movement against the monarchy. Are you seriously saying the police on the streets today weren't aware of them?

Of course they are aware of them but what is the point of having meetings, agreeing a plan, police officers on duty in the area agreed know they have permission to unload their stuff there but then they go to another area where the police have not been told they have permission to unload their stuff there because they haven't, it wasn't the agreement if it wasn't in the agreed place.

Maybe they deliberately did it hoping to cause a fuss and people can't see it.

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:19

@Roussette

Nope. Highly doubt that the grooms stand in the horses stable with megaphones making them screech to get the horses used to it. Someone did get thrown off his horse in the procession on Harry and Meghan's wedding.

I'm not scared of megaphones. One is used at the school I work at to call students forward for the bus. But when One makes a loud, high pitched noise unexpectedly it does make people jump. So if it can startle humans who are used to it, it can definitely startle one of the flightiest animals on the planet.

Notonthestairs · 06/05/2023 11:19

"Graham Smith of Republic says the police would not tell him and 5 others the grounds on which they were being arrested.

This would therefore seem to be an illegal arrest.

This government has no respect for the most fundamental principles of the rule of law."

https://twitter.com/tom___scott/status/1654771049848877056?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Bare minimum requires the Police to inform people of why they've been arrested. They've overreached.

Iwasafool · 06/05/2023 11:19

Roussette · 06/05/2023 11:06

Exactly. He is a measured knowledgeable man who has been interviewed on just about every news channel.

He is not some thug

Shame he hadn't got the commonsense to stick to the agreement that had been made then.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/05/2023 11:19

It's interesting that so many people are suggesting that the police were protecting them from the crowds. What does it say about Monarchists then that police intervention is seemingly required to stop them from kicking protestors' heads in?

cakeorwine · 06/05/2023 11:21

I wonder if the police body cams are working?

This is going to have repercussions. But the Monarchy has such a hold in this country. It can't even be discussed in Parliament.

I give up.

Do you think these horses aren't trained? Seriously? They talked about it on TV only an hour or so ago in detail.

I'll leave you to your imagination. Best way.
