Public safety should come first. Protestors cannot be trusted to actually protest peacefully at the minute. If police think that there is a good chance that things could turn aggressive/violent, why should they take the risk? Yes people have a right to make their voices heard, but they don't have the right to put other people at risk. Maybe blame the recent actions of thugs for protestors not being allowed at the coronation street.

This is the Head of Republic. Do you think that he would risk alienation by disrupting an event?

You've ever seen police orders for a big event then. Do you think every PC has details for every step of the route or are they briefed about where they are posted?

The police know all about Republic. They will have known. Dismiss it all you like

Utter nonsense bleating on about China and North Korea. FFS have you read or watched documentaries about the appalling lack of human rights? The torture? The people who go missing?

It all has to start somewhere…

Exactly. He is a measured knowledgeable man who has been interviewed on just about every news channel.

He is not some thug

So basically you are saying that all protests should be fully banned until protestors can prove that they can behave peacefully. Which they won't be able to do because protests will be banned.

You should get a job working for this government.

Or alternatively we could obey the law, which says that peaceful protests are permitted, and act when things happen rather than arresting people for crimes they haven't committed. But maybe that's just me, because I quite like democracy.

I hope he gets interviewed on the BBC when he is released.

And if he is charged, then who knows what will happen.

Just put the TV on and can’t believe this is real. What a load of shit.

’I’m here not to be served, but to serve’.

What a fucking lie.

Wish they’d all fuck off.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 11:07

I'm thinking seriously about joining Republic now. I started donating to the RNLI on a monthly basis because of all the people screaming about how they shouldn't rescue people from the Channel, so this seems a similarly sensible thing to do.

Cannot be trusted? 😂 It gets better. When do you propose we ban football matches - they often get violent? Or do you like football so wouldn't support that? Can we be trusted to protest if they make an attack on women's rights?
Or do we roll over and accept that too because we're collectively too naughty and insignificant to be trusted?

PrettyMaybug · 06/05/2023 11:08

GOOD. Cannot stand these loathesome idiots. They are so tedious.

TheGuv1982 · 06/05/2023 11:08

Hoepefully they give them some 16th century style questioning in the Tower.

A megaphone that might have spooked the horses and protestors planning the climb over the barrier. Protestors dispute claims but then they are unlikely to admit that aren't they?

https://news.sky.com/story/kings-coronation-anti-monarchy-group-leader-among-activists-arrested-on-way-to-protest-site-12874307

Take the megaphone away then. Simples.

You might buy into erosion of free speech. Many don't

I mean the Royal Family in case there’s any doubt.

All this pomp is such empty shit. It means nothing.

pointythings · 06/05/2023 11:09

Right, because of course these very highly trained horses will be spooked by megaphones (but are fine with noisy cheering crowds and things waving, as long as they are union flags).

Shouldn't you be getting ready to scream allegiance at the telly just now?

2bazookas · 06/05/2023 11:10

I hadn’t realised quite what a dangerous and volatile this whole event would be.

Presumably you've never attended any mass events involving a huge security excercise to protect the public.

The risk of harm is not limited to the Royal family , celebrities and heads of state; it includes millions of ordinary people kettled together.

Yes. Have you any understanding of the history before that? How it started?

Prescottdanni123 · 06/05/2023 11:11

@pointythings

They are used to crowds, not someone screaming through a megaphone. Plus megaphones, especially cheap ones have a habit of letting out horrible, staticcy screechy noises that horses won't be used too.

Merida46 · 06/05/2023 11:11

Let’s see how you all feel if it was your big occasion that was being disrupted. If you don’t like it then don’t go.

You are reaching really hard here, it is quite funny. These horses are trained for everything.

Even wonky megaphones that are squeaky lol

They were going to a place away from the occasion that was set aside.

I don't think people are getting that.

It was agreed.
