To think botox and fillers aren't high maintenance?

I'm pretty low effort , I don't get my nails done natural nails only for work so its a waste of money , eyebrows once in a while I find it more painful than the botox. I get my hair done every 3 months , no fake tan or lashes. I do have botox in my forehead and jaw no fillers. I clench and helps with the pain , botox helps makeup go on more smoothly and fresher. It takes literally 10-20 minutes then you don't need to go back for months. Fillers are even less time consuming they last for 12-18 months I dont have any fillers. Facials temporarily help for like a few days but still time consuming . The lashes , fake nails and spray tans are much more time consuming.

AIBU botox and fillers isn't high maintenance?

I would never had considered Botox but have made a consultation this morning as in recent photos I look so old

but I can’t help but think they are high maintenance - expensive and not authentic (but who cares if you feel better )

CoalCraft · 05/05/2023 12:46

It's all relative. It's certainly higher maintenance than I'd be willing to do, but I'm sure there are others who do a lot more.

defi · 05/05/2023 12:48

I'm lucky it lasts 9months or so with me so it's a once a year expense. I don't wear make up except for special occasions and can't have nails for my job. So instead spend time and effort on skin care and treatments instead

Highlyflavouredgravy · 05/05/2023 12:52

Having poison injected into your face isn't low maintenance is it?

JorisBonson · 05/05/2023 12:53

Why so many threads like this ATM?

IceCreamWoes · 05/05/2023 12:53

It's expensive which is what makes it high maintenance to be, rather than the amount of time you spend doing it

Actually you know botox has multiple uses. It's therapeutically indicated for excess sweating , migraines , pain and bladder dysfunction. But yes it's all posion....

expensive, pointless, sexist and VERY high maintenance. YOu are saying a woman's natural face is flawed and inadequate, and you are saying that for all women.

but if that is the sort of person you want to be, it is up to you, isnt it.

I have no respect for anyone behaving like this

Beezknees · 05/05/2023 12:56

There's an active thread on this already, why start another?

midgemadgemodge · 05/05/2023 12:57

Why do you feel it's important to not be high maintenance ?

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 05/05/2023 12:57

It’s high maintenance to me as I don’t have Botox, fillers, I don’t wear makeup, get my eyebrows or nails done. I don’t have a skin care routine. I don’t do my hair unless I’m going to a wedding or the Christmas do. I get my hair cut once a year. I’m getting quite grey so I think I need to start dyeing my hair more frequently.

It’s your money and it makes you happy so does it matter if it’s high maintenance?

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/05/2023 12:59

Of course they are, on the scale of things

Sissynova · 05/05/2023 12:59

It isn't low maintenance.

bunhead1979 · 05/05/2023 13:00

I think high maintenance - as well as meaning a lot of money/effort/time- has an implication of finding appearances very important. Which is definitely the case for botox and fillers

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 05/05/2023 13:00

I have recently started getting it and it's £80 to treat 1 area, every few months. Literally takes minutes.

I can easily save £25 a month for 3 months to go and get the top ups.

I can just skip a weekend takeaway etc.

I got it done for me and nobody else. and it has made me feel so much better.

If anyone's interested, it was my cats bum lip lines, which as a side effect, has also given me a slight lip lift, making my thin top lip look fuller, without actually getting my lips done. So 2 treatments in one really.

I will definitely be keeping it up.

Like the OP, I don't get my nails done, fake tans, lashes etc. Just my hair once every few months.

I just said I have botox to relieve the pain from jaw pain as well as a little in my forehead. That's sexist and pointless ok. 🙄

After reading the other thread, I was convinced there were some closet marketers for Botox and fillers.

Softoprider · 05/05/2023 13:04

I think if you can afford it and it makes you happy, then why feel the need to justify?

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 05/05/2023 13:05

I don't believe anyone is saying that. Can you advise why it is sexist?

I certainly haven't done it for the male gaze 😂

I'm the wrong side of 40 and have been with my husband for 20 years.

I have done it for myself. How is this sexist?

JamSandle · 05/05/2023 13:05

I consider them high maintenance.

ghyt · 05/05/2023 13:05

It's high maintenance because it's expensive and more invasive than nail polish, in my opinion at least. You sound similar to me, I'm about to start Botox but don't do much else, but I still think it's quite a high maintenance thing to do.

DanceMonster · 05/05/2023 13:07

Why do you care if other people think it’s ‘high maintenance’, or not?
It is expensive, so it’s high maintenance in that respect. It’s not how i want to be spending my money. Couldn’t care less what other people do with their time/money though.

Have you not heard of ‘Scrotox’? The world of injectables is most definitely opening up to men. And they are buying into it…

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 05/05/2023 13:08

I view high maintenance as someone who goes for a blow dry every week at a salon, or going back to a salon to have infills on your nails once a month, having to make time to spend hours on end somewhere on a regular basis.

That's great if it makes you feel good - but minutes getting an injection every 3 months or so, does not = high maintenance - at least not to me anyway.

JetWashingIsMyHobby · 05/05/2023 13:10

I agree with you OP. I have a far from “high maintenance” look in fashion and grooming terms, but have Botox a couple of times a year.

I rarely wear make up, actually I do wear mascara most days but that is it, get my hair done about twice a year and don’t “style” it, and don’t spend much on clothes. On the scruffy side overall ! But I like having nice fresh looking skin and not having to bother with various creams or cosmetics so I think it contributes to being low-maintenance as before I had it I spent money on those things and felt like I needed to wear foundation.
