To think botox and fillers aren't high maintenance?

I'm pretty low effort , I don't get my nails done natural nails only for work so its a waste of money , eyebrows once in a while I find it more painful than the botox. I get my hair done every 3 months , no fake tan or lashes. I do have botox in my forehead and jaw no fillers. I clench and helps with the pain , botox helps makeup go on more smoothly and fresher. It takes literally 10-20 minutes then you don't need to go back for months. Fillers are even less time consuming they last for 12-18 months I dont have any fillers. Facials temporarily help for like a few days but still time consuming . The lashes , fake nails and spray tans are much more time consuming.

AIBU botox and fillers isn't high maintenance?

Down to the individual but I'd say a 'high maintenance person' if they have Botox and fillers. Personally I think you can tell on some people and it makes the face look odd. The woman in the shop next to me a few days ago, so artificial, not a line in sight but very pulled looking face and harsh looking. Her choice but IMO looks odd.

IhearyouClemFandango · 05/05/2023 13:53

But the Botox won't give you clear skin.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/05/2023 13:54

I agree op, I get both and don’t see it as high maintenance at all. I get my nails done, and that’s higher maintenance in my view (due to the time you have to put aside for them). I couldn’t give a stuff what others think - my money, my face and body, thanks.

Swishhh · 05/05/2023 13:54

I have botox twice a year and fillers once a year, I think of it as the same category as seeing a dental hygenist.
I have my hair cut every seven weeks and do my own colour.
I am not high maintenance.

CannotDoThisAnymore · 05/05/2023 13:33

Did anyone see Meg Ryan’s face in the paper yesterday? Thats a reason not to do this kinda stuff imo

Loads of celebrities look weird now from all the work they’ve had over the years. I noticed Gwyneth Paltrow did during her court case and Jennifer Anniston does as well, not to mention Renée Zellweger… I’d much rather look like Mary Beard as pp mentioned!

Fifi0 · 05/05/2023 13:19

A question if someone had bladder dysfunction and incontinence would you call it pointless and sexist to get botox? 🤔

Medical treatments are entirely different. That's like saying reconstructive breast surgery after breast cancer is the same as getting implants.

TillyTollyTully · 05/05/2023 13:57

having your hair done every 3 months sounds very frequent? I think I get my hair cut max twice a year

I suppose everyone has different limits on what high maintenance is. I cut my own hair (started in lock down, didn't go back) so to me, visiting a salon twice a year is pretty high maintenance 😂

I'm sure the OP is absolutely devastated to have lost the respect of Nimbostratus100 from Mumsnet.

Indeed. Anyone who could overlook any intelligence, achievements, kindness, bravery, hard work and/or overall contribution to the world made by another woman, and bestow their 'respect' subject to whether or not she has botox, clearly has a very limited grasp on the meaning of the word.

midgemadgemodge · 05/05/2023 13:51

It's not letting yourself go to age naturally

That's judgemental shite

It's accepting and celebrating your whole true self , not feeling the need to apologise or disguise who you are

This. If you want botox and fillers and other fake things go for it. But, to state that people who don't inject themselves with poisons, or even extra natural bits and bobs are letting themselves go is delusional. Maybe some of us are happy in our own skins and don't feel the need to go down that route?

rainingsnoring · 05/05/2023 13:58

Yes, of course spending hundreds/ thousands a year injecting a neurotoxin into your face is 'high maintenance'.

PelvicFlora · 05/05/2023 13:58

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 05/05/2023 13:00

I have recently started getting it and it's £80 to treat 1 area, every few months. Literally takes minutes.

I can easily save £25 a month for 3 months to go and get the top ups.

I can just skip a weekend takeaway etc.

I got it done for me and nobody else. and it has made me feel so much better.

If anyone's interested, it was my cats bum lip lines, which as a side effect, has also given me a slight lip lift, making my thin top lip look fuller, without actually getting my lips done. So 2 treatments in one really.

I will definitely be keeping it up.

Like the OP, I don't get my nails done, fake tans, lashes etc. Just my hair once every few months.

£80? I pay £300 for mine! Fucken hell. Where do you live?

Having poison injected into your face isn't low maintenance is it?

It must be very slow acting poison 👀
I've been having it for 14 years and I'm fine 🤷

Natsku · 05/05/2023 13:56

Of course they are.
You have to be pretty daft not to be able to see the difference.

My mum does it 😁 I stopped going to the salon when they all seemed to stop doing dry cuts post covid. I don’t want my hair washed, I just want it cut!

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 13:59

Can someone explain the purpose of dental hygienists? Cleaning your teeth properly isn't rocket science.

KimberleyClark · 05/05/2023 14:00

CoalCraft · 05/05/2023 12:46

It's all relative. It's certainly higher maintenance than I'd be willing to do, but I'm sure there are others who do a lot more.

This. I have my hair cut and coloured every six weeks. That’s high maintenance to some people even though day to day my hair is virtually zero maintenance - wash once a week, all other days just needs a comb and straighteners if necessary.

userxx · 05/05/2023 14:00

Nimbostratus100 · 05/05/2023 12:56

expensive, pointless, sexist and VERY high maintenance. YOu are saying a woman's natural face is flawed and inadequate, and you are saying that for all women.

but if that is the sort of person you want to be, it is up to you, isnt it.

I have no respect for anyone behaving like this

I dont have much respect for judgemental people either.

Each to their own.

BubziOwl · 05/05/2023 14:01

It's definitely high maintenance. I'd describe it as being high maintenance in order to be low maintenance... does that make sense? For example, getting laser hair removal is pretty high maintenance but I've known people do it explicitly because they hated regular shaving/waxing as they didn't feel they had the headspace to keep up for it. The actual low maintenance thing to do would be to just not care about hair removal/fine lines/whatever you're targeting with filler at all Grin

In any case, I don't see why it matters whether you're high maintenance or not.

UndercoverCop · 05/05/2023 14:01

You only have to look at any real housewives franchise to see what happens with prolonged Botox and fillers, they all look odd.
I think it's high maintenance financially, I also think it indicates you place a high value on physical appearance and looking youthful.

Somanycats · 05/05/2023 14:02

See I have friends who spend more time each day on beautifing themselves with potions and make up than I spend once a year on Botox. For me that makes them way higher maintenance, way more annoying and way more self indulgent - especially when I have to wait for them to get ready!

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 14:03

I really hate the Real Housewives look.

midgemadgemodge · 05/05/2023 14:03

The whole premise that you need to make the effort to make yourself look young is judgemental

Very agist
Very rude
But hey have a go at the people who you started off insulting when they bite back

Saniflo · 05/05/2023 14:03

Ofc it is high maintenance. Having regular cosmetic surgery is high maintenance regardless of how long it takes etc.

Fifi0 · 05/05/2023 13:36

The princess of Wales has had botox and she's worshipped on MN for being slim and groomed. She has very low body fat so to get that smooth look she has , she would need a helping hand as she's in her 40s!!!

No one's saying that she's low maintenance, though, nor does she claim to be.

Thesharkradar · 05/05/2023 14:04

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 13:44

The fact that it has a positive therapeutic effect doesn't change the fact that it is a poison. Nor does your post change the fact that you were wrong to say the other poster was thick for calling it a poison.

Alle Dinge sind Gift, und nichts ist ohne Gift; allein die Dosis macht, dass ein Ding kein Gift ist.
All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; the dosage alone makes it so a thing is not a poison.
(AKA, 'the dose makes the poison')
