To think botox and fillers aren't high maintenance?

I'm pretty low effort , I don't get my nails done natural nails only for work so its a waste of money , eyebrows once in a while I find it more painful than the botox. I get my hair done every 3 months , no fake tan or lashes. I do have botox in my forehead and jaw no fillers. I clench and helps with the pain , botox helps makeup go on more smoothly and fresher. It takes literally 10-20 minutes then you don't need to go back for months. Fillers are even less time consuming they last for 12-18 months I dont have any fillers. Facials temporarily help for like a few days but still time consuming . The lashes , fake nails and spray tans are much more time consuming.

AIBU botox and fillers isn't high maintenance?

If I needed Botox for medical reasons, yes, I'd do it. Just for looks, no, that's not something I'm interested in doing. It's not a matter of how much time it takes but rather the cost and the idea that I don't look acceptable in my natural state. On the other hand, I shave my legs daily even though there's nothing "wrong" with my natural hair, so...

So @Nimbostratus100 you’re saying any woman who deviates from an entirely ‘natural’ look is holding up the patriarchy?

we aren’t allowed to do anything that just makes us feel good?

no makeup/hair removal/heels/hair dye/flattering dresses?

we must all be au natural all the time?

and there was I thinking that feminism was about giving women autonomy and choices.

thank goodness you’re here to tell us all how to woman correctly!

heels? seriously? disabling women for the titillation of men?

you are honestly listing that as something that makes women "feel good" - something seriously wrong if women have to literally self harm to "feel good"

IAmTheWalrus85 · 05/05/2023 20:10

I have a couple of friends who do everything you do and more. I don’t think it’s unusual.

My friends are incredibly insecure though and TERRIFIED of ageing.

Caramac555 · 05/05/2023 20:23

I don't feel like feminism has achieved that much if women can't maintain/adjust their appearance however they see fit and with no harm to others, without having to justify it.

For me it's a yes to botox, hair dye, light make up

It's a no to false nails, fake tan, eyelash extensions, tattoos, endless hours at the gym. But do I malign women who do these things? No.

@Nimbostratus100

we all have different ways of feeling good. I like to dress nice, heels are too uncomfortable but I like to dress feminine and use nice make up. I’m not sure why you are so against people and especially women dressing and using cosmetics to enhance the way they look. Does it hurt you?

it is damaging to all women. It is damaging to the environment

heels in particular are ridiculous, and cost the NHS millions

ConsuelaHammock · 05/05/2023 20:36

It’s high maintenance and vain. Nothing wrong with it if you’re happy to be high maintenance and vain?

@Nimbostratus100 i disagree that it hurts all women.

Whatifitallgoesright · 05/05/2023 20:57

Duh. How can you ask if it's 'high maintenance' when you refuse to say exactly how much you spend on it?

JaninaDuszejko · 05/05/2023 21:26

It's high maintenance because of the cost (£100-£300 per session)
It's high maintenance because most people don't have it (US figures: 2.5% of women get it)
It's sexist because far more women than men get it (US figures: only 6% of patients are male).

Also, I notice the classic misconception 'feminism is about choice'. It isn't. Feminism is about recognising the societal inequalities that lead to more women than men doing things. Like cosmetic procedures. If more women than men are doing something you owe it to yourself to ask why and who benefits from this.

WTF does ‘stay snatched’ mean??

It effectively means amazing, enviably beautiful etc Think Black drag queen slang goes mainstream.

Rewis · 05/05/2023 21:55

Is high maintenance bad and low maintenance good? Why not just do what you want without labeling it?

userxx · 05/05/2023 21:56

heels in particular are ridiculous

Maybe to you, but you don't speak for the entire female population, you may like to think you do, but you don't. I love a stiletto, as do many other women.

Thank you! I’ve never heard the phrase before. Hopefully I’ll ‘stay snatched at 70’ despite not having Botox 😁

@Nimbostratus100

Are you that deeply insecure that you feel you need to speak (wrongly at that) on behalf of all women?

Its a terrible expression isn't it. Although here is to an expressive and chilled 7th decade😂

Itsmebutnotme · 07/05/2023 08:56

Any thing other than moisturiser is high maintenance IMO because you need outside items or false piece to achieve what you want. If you want a barely there look achieved by wearing makeup evert day it's still high maintenance. It's not wash and go.

Do you not buy moisturiser from outside the home ? If not what the hell you using 🫤

MisterNorrell · 07/05/2023 19:54

I think having stuff injected into your face purely for aesthetic purposes is a pretty extreme thing to do, no matter how common it is now. However, I do see your point that it about it being less time consuming than many other beauty practices, so perhaps high maintenance is the wrong phrase.

JudgeRudy · 07/05/2023 20:16

I guess it depends how you define high maintenance. There's the financial side - you don't sound extreme, there's the time element - again mot time consuming like eg spending an hour rverymornibg washing then straightening/curling your hair...then there's yhe psychological element. I think a lot of people would consider botox and fillers on a par with say sunbeds or implants - so something that could potentially harm you in the pursuit of beauty.
I'd view you as high maintenance as much by how you would behave if you couldn't have these treatments. Would you be unduly distressed if you couldn't have them.
I was talking with s friend recently about how we would manage in prison. I was thinking I'd struggle with the forced sharing of space and lack of fresh air/being outside....she said she'd panic about her eyebrows and her hair.
