To think botox and fillers aren't high maintenance?

I'm pretty low effort , I don't get my nails done natural nails only for work so its a waste of money , eyebrows once in a while I find it more painful than the botox. I get my hair done every 3 months , no fake tan or lashes. I do have botox in my forehead and jaw no fillers. I clench and helps with the pain , botox helps makeup go on more smoothly and fresher. It takes literally 10-20 minutes then you don't need to go back for months. Fillers are even less time consuming they last for 12-18 months I dont have any fillers. Facials temporarily help for like a few days but still time consuming . The lashes , fake nails and spray tans are much more time consuming.

AIBU botox and fillers isn't high maintenance?

I don't consider it high maintenance, as you're right, its a simple procedure every few months. Takes an hour at most for a dramatic and lasting effect. I'd consider spending 1hour plus getting ready every day more high maintenance.
I hate this rhetoric that it always looks bad, that's simply not true or nobody would get it done. Tons of people have it and you simply can't tell if it's tasteful and subtle.

Did anyone see Meg Ryan’s face in the paper yesterday? Thats a reason not to do this kinda stuff imo

Catspyjamas17 · 05/05/2023 13:34

The other thread filled up with posts, I assumed this was a continuation.

Joey1976 · 05/05/2023 13:34

I have a tiny bit of Botox and filler.

Am I vain, yes probably. It has done wonders for my confidence especially at work. It's not obvious.

Don't understand the hate for someone who has it? Good for those of you who don't want it but, really, woman like me are letting everyone down!? That's absurd

accountdetailing · 05/05/2023 13:34

I really really want Botox and fillers but I’m too scared . I have what I think is an odd placement of lines appearing and I’m worried that any practitioner will be used to a more standard pattern and if I got it done that something will go wrong!!!! Like dropping eyes or facial paralysis etc. I have some other conditions too and not sure it’s a good idea but I wish I could have it done

The princess of Wales has had botox and she's worshipped on MN for being slim and groomed. She has very low body fat so to get that smooth look she has , she would need a helping hand as she's in her 40s!!!

Il stay snatched at 70 while those that criticise will look like a deflated balloon

I know what all the words are but I don't know what that means.

Stressybetty · 05/05/2023 13:36

I've always been very low maintenance, box dye my hair, only wear foundation, minimal skin care. However at 50 I am seriously reconsidering. Over the past few years my mouth has drooped more and more downturned and I'm really conscious of it. Don't know if it's Botox or fillers and can't afford to get it sorted for a year or so.

rainraingoawaay · 05/05/2023 13:38

I bloody love my Botox!!

It's fab, I love what it does to my face and I enjoy it a lot. I also wouldn't consider it high maintenance - it's ten minutes every three months, to me that's low maintenance.

The superiority complex some of these wrinkly PPs must have is wild!

expensive, pointless, sexist and VERY high maintenance. YOu are saying a woman's natural face is flawed and inadequate, and you are saying that for all women.

but if that is the sort of person you want to be, it is up to you, isnt it.

I have no respect for anyone behaving like this

You're the one being sexist actually: botox is not just for women, plenty of men go under the needle too!

It means that PP will look like Bella Hadid at 70, while the rest of us will look like Mary Beard. Oh, the ignominy. How shall we survive it?

People who call it poison sound a bit thick. Check out the BNF it has multiple therapeutic indications in medicine. Do we call all opioids poison or paracetamol?

It's a neurotoxin. That's how it works, it acts on the nerve and causes muscle paralysis. It is one of the most poisonous biological substances.

Know what you're having injected into your face before you call anyone else thick.

I am sure Botox users everywhere are absolutely gutted by this news.

Are capital letters high maintenance as well?

Turfwars · 05/05/2023 13:41

For me it's high maintenance, but I'm not judging.

What I dislike though is the assumption that if you don't do daily makeup and have several routine beauty treatments a month that you aren't making an effort.

I dye my eyebrows and the first and only time I got my nails done was for my wedding. I started highlighting my hair a year ago to start to blend in grey and I find the cost and the effort of that annoying!

I don't wear makeup daily - and I'm happy I don't. In my 20's I wouldn't leave the house without it, feeling ugly and insecure. I was actually really lovely looking but miserable. Now I confidently go out without it, but would put some on for a special occasion. To me that's a sign that my self esteem has finally sorted itself out.

Yes and if you have chronic pain it's amazing. No more pain killers because the pain in my jaw is gone.

The fact that it has a positive therapeutic effect doesn't change the fact that it is a poison. Nor does your post change the fact that you were wrong to say the other poster was thick for calling it a poison.

greennotepad · 05/05/2023 13:46

There's a bit of a misconception on MN that if you get fillers and/or botox you must be after the overdone 'Love Island' look. Plenty more normal women get it done than you realise- where I live, you can pop out and get it done in a lunch hour as easily as you could get your nails done.

A women disliking a feature of HER OWN face, whether it be due to aging or otherwise, says nothing about her thoughts on YOUR face, and is nothing to do with your life. Do you think every woman dieting is doing it to send a signal to fatter women that they're flawed, or anyone dying their hair is telling your you're inadequate if you're grey? Why the need to centre yourself in other women's choices when you could just mind your business?

Daffodilwoman · 05/05/2023 13:47

The question I have is this:
What about the partners of these botoxed, lip filled, hair bleached, hair extended etc etc etc women. What happens down the line when the female looks like a plastic barbie and he looks like a rejected potato with eyes. Surely you will look incredibly odd. I saw a young couple yesterday, early 30s, and she did not have one single line or wrinkle on her face. She had obviously had work done and she looked great. She was wearing make up and had very long hair ( probably fake) which she had curled at the bottom so had spent some time on it. It was lighter at the ends with darker roots. He was slightly younger than her by a few years and had lines and wrinkles. His lines and wrinkles were exaggerated by her complete lack of lines or wrinkles if that makes sense. Together they looked very odd. It just highlighted the work she’d had done and made him look like he should have work done if that makes sense. As they age I think they will look incredibly odd together.
Its just a thought I’ve had as most men let themselves go, and do look like a potato with eyes. Will women start rejecting them in exchange for younger men? That’s if younger men want them.
I don’t expect anyone to know the answer as most women having all this work done probably haven’t reached their 80s or so yet.

Oh dear. Well, never mind.

GeraltsBathtub · 05/05/2023 13:50

Of course it’s high maintenance - except I wouldn’t even call it maintenance because it’s a wholly optional extra rather than maintaining anything like cutting your hair and nails are. Any treatment beyond haircuts is edging towards high maintenance imo. And having your hair done every 3 months sounds very frequent? I think I get my hair cut max twice a year.

Ha this made me laugh! DH definitely does look like a potato with eyes. I love him anyway though. I also look like a pumpkin with eyes. Looking forward to living in the vegetable patch together and slowly turning to compost.

midgemadgemodge · 05/05/2023 13:51

It's not letting yourself go to age naturally

That's judgemental shite

It's accepting and celebrating your whole true self , not feeling the need to apologise or disguise who you are

Well yes many substances cause poisoning in high doses. Opioids , barbitutes benzodiozapines for example that doesn't mean its automatically a poison with no therapeutic indications. People shout Botox is poison yes it is but if injected in very small quantities no it won't poison your whole body or kill you. Many people have been having botox for decades if there was high rates of botulism it would be banned.
