To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Is this a reverse thread? Or a stealth boast? I work with a lot of women and don't know any who do this. I certainly don't. If I had the money I might be getting my hair and nails done more often but not to that extent. Why are you having Botox at your age?

HideTheCroissants · 04/05/2023 20:56

…. I do care about my appearance. I wear make up. I use skincare products. I have my hair cut every 7-8 weeks. Never felt the need to inject toxins into my face and I’m a lot older than the OP.

Doggymummar · 04/05/2023 20:56

53 I have my nails done every three weeks SNS , pedicure a couple of times in the summer. I've skipped my last two haircuts as it looks fine. Have facial fillers in 2017 and 2019. I have just bought some St Tropez to try a bit of a colour. I don't wear makeup as I don't need it. I shVE my legs once a month and my eyebrows sort them selves out.

Hellsmovie · 04/05/2023 20:56

My wife does none of these things.

Thank god. I love her as she is

BlackPhillipsCheese · 04/05/2023 20:56

All natural ingredients in fake tan, Botox and lip filler eh??

WestwardHo1 · 04/05/2023 20:57

Nope, no woman I know does all of that. We all practise self care.

NamingNames · 04/05/2023 20:57

I'm also 36 - don't do any of your routine! It wouldn't make me feel good to do it though - I look after my skin, have fairly regular haircuts, get as much sleep as I can and wear make up when I feel like it, but that's what self care is for me.

workistoomuch · 04/05/2023 20:57

I've never done any of these either! Why would you want to add all these chemicals and unnatural things to your body?

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 20:57

Curiosity101 · 04/05/2023 20:31

It also depends what you define as caring about your appearance. I care about my appearance in that I want to look clean, neat and healthy. But I don't care about looking 'beautiful' - I would probably want to do all those things you mentioned if I cared about looking 'beautiful'.

As it stands I do none of those things but I always look perfectly respectable 🤷

I don't consider myself beautiful. I'm 5ft 9 and a size 14 so probably not conveniently beautiful. I just do this to feel okay I guess.

I care about my appearance OP - I keep in good shape, good skincare routine and regular hair cut and colour. Its because I care about my appearance and health I don't have regular doses of filler injected into my lips to inflate them!

Moveoverdarlin · 04/05/2023 20:58

I would consider myself as someone that cared about her appearance. I spend money good makeup/ hair products, decent clothes and yet I do absolutely none of those things you do, apart from the fake tan in summer months. My nails are long and always painted, but I do them myself. So much of what you have listed is such a waste of money.

Kyse · 04/05/2023 20:58

I wear makeup daily
Have a skincare routine with tret
Have micropigmentation eyebrows
Hair cut once a year

But
Paint my own nails
Shave legs at home
Shape own eyebrows
Dermaplane my face

katepilar · 04/05/2023 20:58

I wonder what made you think that this what most woman do? Is that what your friends, family and colleagues do?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 04/05/2023 20:58

I don’t do any of these things and neither do any of the women I know. A few of my female friends get their nails done and one has her eyebrows done but I don’t know anybody who gets fake tan or Botox or fillers.

BadNomad · 04/05/2023 20:58

I don't even take my makeup off at the end of the day 😅

I either shave, pluck or wax my own eyebrows depending on my level of laziness that day. Other than that, I don't do anything beautifying. In my friendship group, hair and eyebrows are the only things outsourced as far as I'm aware.

Londonlady1423 · 04/05/2023 20:59

Nails and tan yes,
Filler and Botox no.

Hillary17 · 04/05/2023 20:59

Erm nope. I get my eyebrows waxed every four weeks. Other than that, maybe a haircut maybe twice a year. Paint my own nails. Have a reasonably good skin care regime but that’s about it!

ShowUs · 04/05/2023 20:59

Why would you need Botox at 36?
Surely you don’t have any wrinkles?

How often do you need to do Botox and lip fillers and how much do they cost?

Iamclearlyamug · 04/05/2023 20:59

Lol, caring about your appearance means injecting crap into your face? Okay then 🙄

Maria1982 · 04/05/2023 20:59

I don’t do any of that !! I may have the occasional facial. I epilate my own legs and armpits. I don’t wear makeup, I don’t like how it feels on my face and I’m happy I no longer feel obliged to make attempts at wearing makeup because I’m young and insecure (as I was in my 20s).

I honestly know no one who gets the stuff you listed done. Botox? No way. Nails done? Not in my friendship group.

I seriously thought either a) you are trolling , or b) you have a very niche subset of friends/acquaintances if you think this is ‘normal’.

Jellywobblescobbles · 04/05/2023 20:59

Hi OP, well being honest I would do those things if I had the time and money! I do spend on my hair - average cost £140 per month, (cut & colour at a lovely salon and the odd product). I paint my own nails sometimes and fake tan and eyebrow tint at home. I’d absolutely pay to have botox/filler to help my jowls. I say do what makes you happy High Maintenance is fine!

Beezknees · 04/05/2023 20:59

Fake tan is grim. I used to wear it. It makes your skin grubby. You can't exfoliate with it on because it scrubs the tan off, so the dirt just builds up.

Ketzele · 04/05/2023 20:59

Interesting thread! I cleanse and moisturise, and wear make up most days. Cut my own hair, do my own brows, keep nails short and clean. I just can't be arsed with any more than that.

SilverCatStripes · 04/05/2023 20:59

Nope.

I wash my face with whichever shower gel I am using, and I use a moisturiser with an spf.

I keep my nails trimmed , they are short and neat. I wash my hair every other day.

I only wear make up very occasionally, as I don’t really like the feel of it so save it for dressing up days.

I am happy in my own skin. And I think we are all beautiful just as we are.

I really hate how young women these days are sold the lie they need to spend a fortune altering their appearance.

RudsyFarmer · 04/05/2023 20:59

Pmsl. None of those things.
