To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Jealous? Oh dear.

Jealous? Just because you have all that done doesn't mean you look better than the next person.

crazycanuck · 04/05/2023 20:50

I do none of this. No one I know does either, bar a facial every now and then.

Boomboom22 · 04/05/2023 20:27

Yabvu. And setting a bad example to children who see you as a role model. What's wrong with your skin lips and nails that you feel the need to spend this money? Nothing and I'd strongly bet you look better without all the fakery. Sounds more like self hate than self care to me.

What? Self hate? My kids are boys. I like to look good and keep fit both inside and outside. I'm not trying to set an example for anyone.

TaraRhu · 04/05/2023 20:51

If I had the money I'd do that. Before kids I got my nails done, brows waxed , a facial and my hair done. Now I can only afford nails (no polish) abc brows. It's rubbish.

clary · 04/05/2023 20:51

I don't do any of those things. I can't get on with long nails (swim and work on keyboard), I don't personally like fake tan or filled lips. I have a good friend who has her nails done each week and she apologises for it but I don't see an issue. Just not for me.

A regular facial would be nice but too £££.

I have my hair dyed at the salon about every 10 weeks which costs quite a bit, and I love skincare so I spend on that every so often (to get a GWP or advent calendar). I wear makeup every day and have a regular skincare routine and massive stash

I occasionally get my eyebrows done and that is worth it actually. But no, most women I know don't do what you do op.

What's to be jealous of?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/05/2023 20:51

I don't do any of those things (I was a 90s grunge girl!) but there are plenty of women here in Liverpool that do. I don't have any in my friendship group as the women who seem to put a lot of importance on their looks have different interests and values to me and my friends. Some are quite obsessed with beauty and makeup and how they look taking hours and hours to get ready for a night out (and even just each morning for a normal day, looking overly made up). I just don't find it that interesting.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/05/2023 20:52

GrouchyKiwi · 04/05/2023 20:23

I don't know anyone who does this.

Nor do I. I don’t do any of those things !

Roozkitty · 04/05/2023 20:52

I do none of that. I do wear sunscreen each and every day, though, so no need for botox.

sylvandweller · 04/05/2023 20:52

Nope. I don't even go to the hairdressers anymore.

Cut and colour it myself.

Got loads of compliments since I started doing this.

Hayliebells · 04/05/2023 20:53

YABU to think most women who care about their appearance do those things. I've had my nails done a few times, but I've never had the other things done. I don't think all of those things improve a woman's appearance.

Why would someone be jealous of someone that needs to spend a lot of time and money to look half decent?

It would be the complete opposite.

If OP posted that she’s naturally beautiful with perfectly clear skin, tanned, long lashes and tanned without needing to do anything then I can see why some might be bit envious!

kingtamponthefurred · 04/05/2023 20:53

I don't do any of that and I think I look fine, but I prefer a natural look.

primoseyellow · 04/05/2023 20:53

I dye my brows myself whenever I can be bothered and same as my grey roots.

I like using skincare and always use a spf and night creams/serums.

I dont have botox or fillers but I think I will have an eyelift soon, also thinking about breast implants.

My issue is im lazy when it comes to stuff like this, I have started ILP hair removal at home which is really worthwhile, but I keep stopping and starting.

katepilar · 04/05/2023 20:54

I dont do any of this and dont know anyone around me who does. Some of women around me do have facial because they have issues with face skin.

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 20:54

PiffleIsTakingThePiss · 04/05/2023 20:30

Pure goad. Hardly anybody does all that shit to themselves unless you're Katie Price or some other dreadful plastic person who has zero idea who they really are. YABVVVVVU.

I can assure you I don't look plastic , everything is done naturally.

summertimesunshines · 04/05/2023 20:54

I do my own nails once a month (gel), I have semi permanent eyebrows (but wax them myself monthly) and have a little filler in my lips every 1-2 years. I will be starting Botox the next time I get filler also.

I think I'm probably slightly above average in terms of this type of effort amongst the people I know within the area I live (rural countryside) but appreciate this will be very minimal in bigger cities!

I would say you do more than most.

BlackPhillipsCheese · 04/05/2023 20:54

It's all just such a fake look. Fake skin, fake nails, fake hair colour, fake skin texture. Orange plastic smooth women.

No wonder so many younger girls have self esteem issues. It feels like the towie plastic trend has phased out natural beauty and appreciation of what we look like. It makes me sad.

Thank fuck my social circle aren't like this.

Beezknees · 04/05/2023 20:55

I care about my appearance but I don't think all of that is necessary, being clean and tidy and presentable is enough. You don't see blokes doing all of that stuff.

I do get my nails done because I like that, but I don't wear fake tan. My natural skin is fine. I don't get botox, having lines isn't offensive, it's a natural part of ageing. Don't get lip fillers, my natural lips are fine.

Marsyas · 04/05/2023 20:55

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 20:51

What? Self hate? My kids are boys. I like to look good and keep fit both inside and outside. I'm not trying to set an example for anyone.

Do you think your boys might adopt your idea that women who care about how they look do all that stuff, therefore women who don't do all that stuff don't care about how they look? So if they are in a relationship with someone they might insist they do all that stuff otherwise they are letting themselves go? I've never had my nails done btw and can count on one unmanicured hand the number of times I have had a facial or my eyebrows done.

Auntieobem · 04/05/2023 20:55

Nope, do none of that. Bit of serum amd some moisturiser is about my limit.

JupiterFortified · 04/05/2023 20:55

I think regular nails and occasional tan is pretty common among my friends.

Facials and Botox aren't though.

Hoppinggreen · 04/05/2023 20:55

That’s a no from me to most of those.
And I do care what I look like

avocadotofu · 04/05/2023 20:56

I don't do any of those things. I might get Botox at some point but I'm putting it off as long as possible.
