To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Can someone explain what " getting your nails done," means ? Are all the women who say they do this, wearing falsies and nail varnish all the time ? At work (where surely you have to type?) whilst caring for young children, while cooking? It just seems both totally impractical and unhygienic to me. I am frankly amazed at the number of women saying they do this regularly.

Kanaloa · 04/05/2023 20:47

I get my eyebrows waxed and shaped. That’s it. I think you’re a bit small minded to think that you must not care about your appearance if you don’t have Botox and lip fillers.

Rainbowshit · 04/05/2023 20:47

Nope. Have better things to spend my money on.

Bimbom · 04/05/2023 20:47

The only thing I've ever done from your list is have my nails done, and that was one time before my wedding.

Nobody I know is high maintenance with all that stuff.

Fifi0 · 04/05/2023 20:44

Getting stuff injected in your face is much less effort than other beauty treatments. 20 mins and done every few months. The fake tan , nails, lashes on is much more faff. Facials are very temporary effect

This is true. It takes me literally ten minutes to get botox. I could spend 3 times longer than that choosing the latest moisturiser that claims to achieve what only botox can.

ShowUs · 04/05/2023 20:47

It depends.

Would you say you are naturally less attractive than most?

If so, then I can see why you need to make more of an effort.

I do my eyebrows and nails once a week.
I moisturise and take care of myself but I don’t pay someone else to do it.

I do my hair and make up most days.
I look fine without make up and my hair done but I find it improves my MH if I ‘get ready for the day’.

I know some women who don’t do any sort of extra work and look absolutely fabulous and it would be a bit pointless if they did.

I’ll probably never get Botox.
I’m really surprised that you need Botox when you’re so young, does it actually make a difference?

Equimum · 04/05/2023 20:48

TBH, I don't know anyone who does all of those things in a regular basis, and I know some women who really care about they look. I get my brows done, and my hair cut and coloured, but otherwise it's just self care at home.

Malloryhitops · 04/05/2023 20:48

I do my tan and nails done if I’m going to an event defo not every week or month. I don’t do any of the other things. I like my skincare but do it all myself, I do self care in the form of the gym and eating well. I’d love to get a facial once a month or even once a year but can’t really justify the cost and or can’t be arsed 😂

You're going to get a lot of jealous replies.

😄 jealous.

If we think fake tan looks rough and common we must be jealous.

SinglePonders · 04/05/2023 20:48

I’ve never done any of those things. Even once. Never.

RubyMurry22 · 04/05/2023 20:49

No I don’t do any of those things and don’t know anyone who does.

I have my own nails with a gel layer painted over to keep my nails from breaking and gel polish then on top. 45 mins every three weeks.

inky1991 · 04/05/2023 20:49

I would agree and say this is high maintenance

Whitewolf2 · 04/05/2023 20:49

Super high maintenance! OP I honestly don’t know anyone who bothers in the way you do. Sounds like TOWIE.
I get my hair cut, the occasional massage and that’s it!

blahblahblah1654 · 04/05/2023 20:49

@Neurodiversitydoctor I get my nails done but mine is a powder dip on my natural nails and I keep them short. Like nail varnish that lasts for a month. Hate these long nasty fake nails. I would chip normal polish within an hour.

Fandabedodgy · 04/05/2023 20:49

I do none of these things.

Most I've never done ever.

I know one or two people who might. But that's it.

Upwiththelark76 · 04/05/2023 20:49

Good for you OP! We all do whatever we feel to feel good about ourselves . If it’s making a difference to you don’t give a flying hoot about anyone else ! Self cere
comes on many forms 🫶🏻

Highdaysandholidays1 · 04/05/2023 20:49

I think I'm quite appearance oriented, but I don't do these things except a bit of Summer Body fake tan once a week in the summer. I pluck my eyebrows and my chin (!), wear make-up, dry my hair nicely, try to wear nice clothes, I think that's quite enough effort!

ElmTree22 · 04/05/2023 20:49

WonderBetty · 04/05/2023 20:31

I pluck my peri induced chin hairs. Does that count?

Amazing 😂

HideTheCroissants · 04/05/2023 20:49

Certainly not normal for me or my circle of friends. I do my own nails when I fancy it. I tidy my own eyebrows. Home “gradual tan lotion” sometimes. Never had Botox or fillers. I’ve had a facial once. I take care of myself but keep it natural (and affordable).

Some of my friends do have nails done regularly.

Why do you assume that people who don't go in for all that are jealous? Honestly my feelings would be erring more towards pity than jealousy if anything

pleasesircanIhavemore · 04/05/2023 20:50

I can't stand the fashion for having your lips filled - it makes you look like a duck and speak funny - why do people want to look like an inflatable sex object - it's sad - us old feminists are turning in our graves ...

Saltandpepperchipss · 04/05/2023 20:50

Nope I’m naturally brown and have lovely thick full lips. Don’t bother with nails anymore. I have good clear skin. So nope

Jealous of what, exactly? I'm sure the OP looks lovely but she's daft to think every woman does the same as she does.

Dogsandbabies · 04/05/2023 20:50

I don't know anyone who does this! I certainly don't. Any of it.
